sio Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Today at 13:00 PM the french High speed train (TGV) exceeded a speed record on railways. Until today it was of 515 kmp/h (320 miles/h) and it's now more than 574.7 kmp/h (356 miles/h). It's a new world record. A video: Congratulations for the french TGV team
IceDragon Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 heh, a friend just told me about it... imagine what that would be like for a launched ride?
Wishmaster Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 ^^ Yes, but if they would touch the ground at that speed no one would survive.
thrillrideseeker Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 You just had to say that didnt you? I am flying next month Planes could touch the ground going that fast and not kill everyone. They land dont they? ~Matthew
thrillrideseeker Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Oh! Well now I feel more safe about flying! ~Matthew
krouvi Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 TGV rocks. I rode it to get to Disneyland Paris and it was not less exciting than the Park itself.
verticalzero Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I admire the French TGV for going so fast in a train and pushing the speed limit, hopefully their service will expand to the whole of Europe. The UK are so far behind on their rail system, overcrowded and hot in the summer, only 125mph and with tilting trains making you feel ill. All the trains are run by private companies and they have a fare rise by 20% each year, it cost more to go on a train than it does not drive a car. I used to be a train-spotter when I was young, but now adays I visit private railways as they have "Diesel" Gala's and run preserved english Loco's. I love the sound of a triple-headed Class 37 on full power. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_37 Most of the Diesel Loco's on English railways are class 66 and 67, they are ugly and have "no soul", they also sound like "washing machines" on super spin. willski Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Well good for the French that they can break the record with a specially modified train that is basically empty and runs on straight, modified track. It doesn't matter how fast it goes in a trial, it matters how fast it goes on a route. The first TGV route using this train is from Paris-Stuttgart, and the train will travel with a top speed of only 192 mph and an average speed of around 170 mph. Not a huge improvement, just a method of trying to sell French-made trains through publicity. Still, if they could actually manage to get a train to run this fast reliably, there would be enormous implications for domestic and intra-EU airlines. In fact, a lot of low-cost carriers would probably shut down if you could travel at those speeds, since you wouldn't have to undergo security and the train stations would be more convenient.
