pianojohn Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 For those interested, I am playing keyboards in the pit for MAMMA MIA in Gainesville, FL. I have attached some pics for fun. If you are coming to the shows today (2pm and 7:30pm), lean over the pit and say hi! Doing my Mamma Mia face in front of the theatre In front of one of the MANY semi trucks that brings this show all over the country. You can see the house from here. Cool, no? Sitting in the pit
steel Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 That's awesome that you're getting the chance to do this. You must be really good... Personally, I didn't much like Mamma Mia. I can never really figure out why, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as Lion King or The Light in the Piazza or (obviously) Wicked.
robbalvey Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 That's awesome John! Congrats! It's always a show Elissa and I wanted to see...but never did! --Robb
WillMontu Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Personally, I've never heard of it, so I don't know if it's within my taste or not. Where in Gainesville is it, and how much does it cost?
SharkTums Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Grrr I totally want to see this show! Especially if I know someone in it!
supertrooper Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The music from Mamma Mia! is the only part I enjoyed (the actual music, not the singing)... and that's only because I am a big ABBA fan. The story is really contrived, and the acting wasn't that great, and there was way too much loud, over-singing (ruining ABBA's distinctive harmonies) in the touring version I saw in Dallas. You could basically take the music of any band and make it fit the story. I'm sure the original London production is much better (at least the soundtrack is), but I can't believe they are actually making a movie of it....it's just so...blah. But yeah, congratulations of being in the orchestra pit...the music quality really is great.
WillMontu Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I went down there today hoping to catch the 7:30 show, but the ticket prices were $40+, which was out of my price range. Turns out that they weren't doing student tickets (usually $10). If you can get me in free or at a reduced rate, I can drop by tomorrow!
