CoasterG Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I'm planning on heading up to the San Francisco area for 2 Dave Matthews Band shows - August 10-14. Flying into San Jose on SW at about noon on the 10th, have the 11th free, the 12th thru the 14th are booked since the shows are late in the afternoon on the 12th and 13th and I fly out at noon on the 14th. Right now I'm thinking: PGA and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on the 10th - get about 6 hrs in the park and then 2-3 hrs at Santa Cruz SFMW on the 11th and San Francisco sightseeing - basically hit the coasters and see the park at SFMW. Are there any other good smaller parks in the areas with coasters of note? Not your typical Cali kiddie coaster - something like the Scandia Screamer or Treetops Racers is cool though. Thanks!
SharkTums Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 BOOOOOOOOOOOO to DMB!!!! UGH!!!! I HATE THEM SO MUCH....ok, that being said...Bonfante Gardens is a really awesome park with a surprisingly good mine train. How much stuff do you want to do in San Fran? If maybe you just want to catch lunch, or you can check out the place on some of your concert days I would do: Fly in, hit Bonfante, hit Santa Cruz Next day, do SFMW for a few hours in the morning, lunch in San Fran, afternoon to close at PGA Seriously PGA and SFMW are pretty poor parks. Nothing really worthy of reriding and not that great staff and operations. I highly recommend Bonfante! Elissa "they have rodents there!" Alvey
CoasterG Posted May 10, 2005 Author Posted May 10, 2005 Tell me how you really feel about DMB? I totally forgot about Bonafonte! Have to pencil it in there - unfortunately I have to credit whore since this is the first time I've been up in the area so I have to do PGA and SFMW . Hmm, can I do PGA/Bontafonte and Santa Cruz on the same day and wedge in SFMW when I fly in? Noticed that SFMW is N of San Fran while those 3 are S? I think - not a California geography expert.
Meteornotes Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 ^Right, those three parks are south of SF, and SFMW is North. And across the bay. It's a bit of a drive to SFMW from SF, and the traffic can be brutal until you get away from Oakland, so you'll need to factor that in. dt
PhishyBrewer Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 DMB... SELLOUT! That's me though. You'd be better off coming July 29th for Zooma(http://www.zoomatour.com) and come see some better talent play. Like Trey Anastasio of Phish, and Ben Harper. None of that Ants Marching rubbish. Oh... and I agree withs Elissa's schedule.
Coaster Palooza Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I would agree with Elissa's trip too. Check out the times for SCBB. You might be able to stay at Bonfante a little longer than expected. There aren't a lot of rides at SCBB. There are just a couple of coasters and a new drop tower. If they close late, which I think they will, then you can spend some time there. Go to SFMW early and then PGA later in the aftenoon/evening. Close the place!
the_rock401 Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 DMB just plain sucks. Dave can't sing to save himself.
dws_57 Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 well for the SCBB their website has them listed open till 11pm. also on wednesday and thursday nights they usally do a Pepsi can promotion where you can get a unlimted ride wristband after 5 or 6pm for about $8. They don't have this on their web site yet, but they do it ever year. If you like cheesey dark rides check out the Cave Train, haunted house (really Cheesey) and The Sally ghost blaster. So go to bonfonte then head here. OH the SCBB is only 7 miles from my house. DWskunks.
