Here are some photos of the new DL Space Mountain for you all.

What do you guys think? I'm a little disappointed that not much seems to have changed structurally. But some of it does look pretty cool, like the silver hallway with what look like windows on the right. That'd be pretty cool if there are windows that look out onto a planet you're supposed to be orbiting. Of course, that's all speculation on my part since you can't see it well in the photos.

Interesting.

I'm hoping they'll do something like this for WDW version. But I hope they only change the coaster itself. The queue is still one of the all-time best in WDW.

Hey there Fox,

Thanks for posting these.

I have to say that I was hoping for more, being that the ride has been down for what, three years now?

But still, it's not as though the queue was "Dueling Dragons" or "Indy" to begin with. From what I can tell from those photos it looks pretty much the same, but with a 'fresh coat of paint' so to speak.

We'll just have to see what the end result is when the ride opens.

What does everyone else think?

I think it's definately interesting. I hope there are more "Surprises" than what is seen here though.

I am glad they kept the space station theme for the actual station though, and that you can still look down on the loading platform. I always loved that. Here is my question though: if the queue layout is basically the same and the ride is still the same layout why did it take them 3 years.

And the other question is will people REALLY notice that much of a difference?

I mean, people still think that Riptide over at Knott's is the old Hammerhead!

I actually meant about Gregg's comment!

Eh, it's just a queue...don't see why some people were freaking out about it!

I'd rather a park put the money in the ride than the queue!

^ Wait. If Space Mtn won't count as a new credit then Powder Keg shouldn't count either because it uses track from a coaster that was already there.

The new Space Mtn doesn't use any previously used track.

I count a credit as any coaster track (non-powered, non-duplicate (Like Superman:TE, Colossus, etc)) that I have not had the priviledge to travel on previously. This counts IMO.

If you aren't going to count Space Mtn then you shouldn't be counting clones either.

I'm not counting it as a new credit, mainly because while it is a brand new structure, it just replaces the old one with a beefier track. But that's just my 'pinion.

I am looking forward to riding this in July or August.

^^The only problem with that Gregg is something that Robb mentioned once before...

Technically all wooden coasters have been rebuilt multiple times, supports, track, everything!

Again, I don't really have a problem with how you count! I was just kidding!

Using that failed logic I get to count pretty much every wooden coaster I've been on as three maybe four!!!

^^ I know you were kidding ... do I take anything personally ... or seriously???

^ So Robb, you should be over 800 credits by now ... See ... thanks to me!!!

I do see the points all around ...

See, the thing about Powder Keg vesus Buzzsaw Falls is that it's a completely different ride experience. No one is going to mistake a launching coaster for a water coaster.

Same thing with Steel Phantom to Phantoms Revenge. No one is going to mistake bashing your head apart to not getting a concussion!

With Space Mountain, unless they are doing some DRASTIC changes, it's going to be pretty much the same ride, but (and I'm assuming) re-themed.

I mean, it was re-themed about 10 years ago when they added the sattelite and all that glowie stuff and no one seemed to notice.

Even Matterhorn got a complete make-over and that didn't change the "feel" of the ride that much.

So unless DLR's Space Mountain suddenly has a track layout of, oh, let's say Disneyland Paris' version, IMO, it's the same ride.

Here's another thought....would anyone have really noticed or mentioned it had the re-hab been done during the off season at any other park?

Although here is an argument in favor for the people who would count Space Mountain again. Let's say Cedar Point decided they wanted to replace the "Wildcat", but instead they decided to buy a slightly less used one from another park. They dismantle the current Wildcat ride, and build the other one EXACTLY like the one they took down. Would you count that again? It *IS* a different coaster, but it's exactly the same.

Um, Robb...

I don't really remember what the difference was between Steel Phantom and Phantom's Revenge because my head was so bashed apart on Steel Phantom that the 2 years before and after that are all a blur!

Damn ... I didn't realize this coaster thing was so difficult ... WTF!?!?!

Is it a credit? Is it not a credit? How much modification does it take for it to be a new credit? If a tree falls on Psyclone would anybody notice?

Both arguments make sense, but the answer lies in the "new" layout of the coaster. If it's just rethemed, then no, but if they ripped the old stuff out and re-tracked the inside then why not?

Credit: Yes. Why? They changed the track into a brand new set of the pieces. Yeah, I see Robb's point, but even if the themeing gets changed, I would consider it a new credit because the expierence changed. Like what we were just talking about in the Monsters Inc. topic; it's the same exact layout, but a completly different ride.

I wouldn't. That coaster is nothing compared to the real one in Coney Island.

I totally agree with you. I think it should also have a Mummy-style launch, go faster, and have some inversions like the one in Paris. They should also have B&M or Intamin re-do it. But not during the summer!
