redfoot12 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I remember in the late 90's/early 2000's this ride was getting all sorts of hype from The Discovery Channel shows. I don't hear too much about it these days from enthusiasts. Has it lost anything in the last few years? Was it overhyped? It always looked like a great ride to me.
robbalvey Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I rode it opening year and thought it was GREAT! I've been back twice since then and both visits the ride was kind of "meh" I too have thought it's overrated. --Robb
BarryH Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I rode it about 3 years ago and I enjoyed it! It's probably the only reason why I would drive out to Michigan's Adventure. Still, there are better woodies out there that give better airtime.
Carnage Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I rode it last year and though it was severyly overrated. Little to no airtime, and really was just a boring ride. Michigains Adventure I found to be a very empty, boring, depressing park.
larrygator Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I rode Memorial Day weekend in 2005 and thought ST was great, although the park blows. I got plenty of air on my 22 rides. It is still one of my Top 10 woodies (but barely with all the good new ones)
redfoot12 Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Cool--if I went on the 2007 Midwest TPR trip I was thinking about doing a detour to Michigan Adventure, either before or after. Now I might skip MA until they get another coaster and just focus on either Valleyfair! or going out to Missouri to hit SDC, SFSTL, or WoF.
robbalvey Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 So the biggest complaints I've heard about that ride is how "hit and miss" it is. From this small sample of reviews....certainly seems that way. --Robb
larrygator Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 ^Robb- definitely a fair comment: I have heard from others that have been there on multiple occasions that ST has its bad days.
Carnage Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I'd probably give ST a bit more of a chance if the park around it was better. MA is the poster child of the Cedar Fair "concrete and rides" idea. Other than ST there's really litte in that park. Not too mention no where to eat. And people complain about Cedar Point lacking trees.
sixflagsguy5 Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 (edited) I was just at Michigan's Adventure this year, I thought it was an ok park. The park was nice, but still needs a lot of developing (which they have plenty of room to do). Shivering Timbers was awesome, but a main part of the ride for me besides the airtime was the fact that it's an out and back coaster that stays away from midways and large areas of people for most of the ride. I like a coaster more when it's a terrain coaster or doesn't go through a crowded midway or anything. Once they start to develope the park out towards the turn around of Shivering Timbers, the ride's atmosphere will go down for sure. Edited April 30, 2011 by sixflagsguy5
Carnage Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 ^ I really didn't get the same impression of ST's location. On it's right is the parking lot, on it's left is just empty grassland.
larrygator Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 my understanding is that MiA plans to expand the park to the left of the out portion of Shivering Timbers once they clear a long standing water rights issue with the municipalities that be.
rollerdude Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 ST is still my favorite wooden coaster. I guess that shows that I haven't been on very many good woodies, or that it rained right before my last two rides the last time I was there. It is getting rough though.
