ECZenith Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14680499/ The above is an older article but it was announced on the news today the project has been approved. As I find out more details I will post them here. This waterpark is being built in West Warwick, RI - very close to the proposed site for the Narraganset Indian Casino which will be voted on later this year. RI wants a casino to keep revenue in the state instead of going to the Connecticutt casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) It looks like the casino area is shaping up to be more of an entertainment district with the announcement of the indoor waterpark. This is a big deal for Rhode Islanders as we have no theme/waterparks since the closing of Rocky Point. (which also happened to be in Warwick in the 90's)
apollo210 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hooray! looks like New england is finally turning back into a park place again! Hopefully, they'll open a new amusement/theme park soon in any state in New England except for New Hampshire, they have plenty oif attractions already!
ECZenith Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 What I wanna know is who is this "Nebraska waterpark company"?
LiVeToThRiLl90 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Yea I live in RI and in West Warwick where there going to build it. I was kinda sad i wish it was a theme park.
Canobie Fan Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Eh.. A bit of a drive for me.. So I bet I never get around to going., But its good news for people in RI... What would the closest waterpark be anyways? SFNEs HH? WaterWiz?
ECZenith Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 I'm about an hour from WaterWizz and and 1.5 hrs from Hurricane Harbor, so this will be the closest. (25 minutes) Livetothrill, don't forget a major theme park will be coming out of the Utopia Studios corporation within a few years just over the CT border adjacent to Mehegan Sun casino. And you never know what the west warwick casino will bring with it, if it becomes a resort city like many are thinking a coaster or two could be a possibility.
iZak Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 So now the entire state of RI will just be a water park and a casino! Sounds like my kind of place! (Sorry, I had to do it...)
ECZenith Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 More details here... http://www.projo.com/ri/westwarwick/content/projo_20060907_ww7talk.32702d3.html SHIPWRECK FALLS *9 Body Slides *1 Family Raft Ride *Wave Pool *Lazy River Construction is scheduled for next Spring with a 2009 opening so it's definately just still in the works... There's already neightbors whining about it but there seems to be just as many people interested in the boost it will give the local economy. Suck it up Rhode Islanders! We need some kind of thrill park, there's enough churches and antique shops to keep everyone else busy!
apollo210 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 ^Lol, but I'm sad to here it'll open in '09. I want it to open in '08 insted. 9 body slides! that's just wrong! and other than that I'd go when it opens.
ECZenith Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Anyone else find it funny the waterpark has the same name as SFNE's shoot-the-chutes? (Shipwreck Falls) Way to be original... At least the place will have a theme.
