I've been looking at the pics and videos of this amazing ride. All the reports and the website claim that it's a family ride and that it has a "family launch". Obviously there was a large demand for a family coaster now that Ore Cart is gone and try getting a whole family into a dark rollercoaster- It's not easy.

All in all- Powdewrkeg is so cool but is it really a "family" coaster.

What you/we/they need to answer is what is a family ride/coaster? My family has two near-50 adults, a 21, 19, & 13 year old. We are all big enough to enjoy something like Powder Keg as a family. But a family of five (2 adults with 3 children under 10) isn't going to enjoy it so much.

Bottom Line: It's media spin. They are going to spin it to fit into their park.

Now to answer your actual question... I think that even some of the bravest children who are tall enough will not ride/enjoy the ride. I can think of a few times while riding (going down the first hill and experiencing the wicked banking) when I said, "Oh shit!" Imagine what a child would think.

Second Bottom Line: Powder Keg is a fun coaster definitely for an older crowd than the Ore Cart had.

but some families do like thrills. I went on Dragon khan when i was 8, and that was extremely big for me at that time. But when i went on it, i loved it, so i went on it again, but my dad wasnt so keen, he was as white as a ghost! so i went on by myslef.

It just depend on what the kids enjoy. Some like thrill rides and some dont. Its the same with adult, some like them and some dont.

I can see how they would call it a family coaster in a way, but I don't really consider it as a family coaster. It has a launch that is faster than that of Flight of Fear (not the most intense launch in the world, but that ride is by no means a "family coaster") and has a top speed of 64 mph. That's almost the speed of some hyper coasters. Yeah, Families can ride it together, but I know when if I was eight years old, I wouldn't step foot near the thing.

Yeah, I think we've talked about this before in another thread. It is quite hard to believe that this is a coaster with only a 42'' height restriction!

As for video, I haven't seen any, but I'm sure it's out there. We should have a video in early May!

Well, IDK. It depends if the launch is like RNRC, cause thats about 60 yet unintense, as the accelaration take a reasonable few seconds. I've not really been following it, so for all I know it could be 0-55 in 0.3 seconds.

Last weekend we saw alot of little kids in line that loved it .. it's certainly a great ride, but they have issues with the trains and constantly go down to 1 train op, from the 2 since the 3rd train has some major issues as we were told.

It's more than the normal family coaster, but the lift in the middle of the ride kinda stops the fast paced action of the first part and then kinda destroys the remainder of the ride. Not sure why they included the lift, a second launch would of been very cool.
