sixflagsguy5 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 There's a slight (60-75%) chance that my family will be going to spain next august for a cruise. What I'm trying to do is talk them into the coaster portion of the trip like I usually do. If we were just going to another state it would be perfectly fine to go a few hours out of the way for some coasters, but in spain we don't know what the neighborhoods are like, how safe it is at some of the parks, how expensive it is, and the addresses (rcdb doesn't have exact addresses for a few of the parks). So I figured you guys would know best, because there are a lot of people on this site that have been out of the US on coasters. So any information would be great. Here are the parks I was thinking (btw, if you have any other parks that I dind't list that are good and near these parks can you post them?): -Terra Mítica -Parque de Attraciones de Madrid -Parque Warner Madrid -PortAventura Thanks very much
davidmorton Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Went to 3 of your 4 last summer; http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18830 -Parque de Attraciones de Madrid - is right in the center of Madrid - on the "subway" line -Parque Warner Madrid - is about 40 minutes south of Madrid by train (easy train trip) -PortAventura - is about an hour south of Barcelona by train (again an easy trip) Tibidabo is a little park in the hills above Barcelona - only 1 real coaster (plus a new one for next year tho') and a powered coaster.
the sound Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Tibidabo has some awesome other little ride though! www.pktk.com Go there. Lots of info about the parks. www.umwebsite.com Go there for port Aventura. We visited Port AVentura and Parque De Atracciones last September. They were both very nice parks.
nemesis-storm Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Parque de Atracciones in Madrid, very easy to get to. Get the Madrid Metro to a stop called Batan, 2 minute walk from there. WBMW Madrid, has it's own train station. PortAventura, Salou. Park has it's own train station, a good 5 minute walk from there. The train journey from Barcelona is at least 1 hour. Tibidabo, in the city of Barcelona, catch the city's metro (Line L7) to 'Av Tibidabo' there you catch a bus or tram up a steep hill. At the top you catch a funiclular railway further up the hill side. Sounds difficult but is not at all, part of the fun is getting there. RCDB will give links to there websites, all info can be got from there. Only Parque de Atracciones has a none emglish website as I can recall.
Linkin_palau Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 You don't say Isla Magica, a little park in Sevilla xD Well, if you like so much coasters you must to go to: -Port Aventura: In 2007 new accelerator! I need to ride it! And Dragon Khan Do you want to ride a authentic sitdown coaster of B&M? Dragon Khan is your coaster. Your head will be down in 8 times! Stampida, a twin wooden coaster, but really you're riding orgasmic coaster! You can't go to PortAventura and no experiment the sensations of Templo del Fuego, you will leave very hot! But in Sea Odissey you will can to refresh you with the best themed simulator in Europe! You can go getting in Barcelona a train, in 1:30 you'll be there. -Parque Warner: South-european coaster paradise! Only in Alton towers you can find the same level of good coasters. Superman, I love this airtime after the cobra! And this first drop in floorless! Batman, you must ride best themed Batmand in the world! Stunt Fall, only GIB out of America And a lot of exciting rides, like Coaster Express, Scooby doo... You can go getting a train in Madrid, and doing a trainsboarding in "Pinto". You'll see is easy. Well, if you have more time and you're in the zone of Madrid you can go to Parque de atracciones de Madrid, with Abismo (extended coaster), Tarántula (spinning coaster), Tornado (one of the firsts Intamin inverted coasters), etc... (my comrade have written how to get) But if you haaaave enough more time (lol) you can go to Terra Mítica, in the Valencian country. Is a really nice theme park, but is economy bad. And, to finish: -Tibidabo: Park in the top of the mountain with the same name, is very funny to get in because you can see Barcelona like flying! They have opened a new ride! "Pèndol", like Pendulum xD Also they have "Kruegger hotel", a terror house, and Muntanya russa(Roller coaster in my language, Catalan). -Isla Mágica: Little park in Sevilla (south of spain). Is themed of America's discovery. It has got an SLC, and some simulators. Well, if you have any doubt of parks in Spain, my MSN is: elboigdepalau@hotmail.com The Barcelona's guy! PD: Excuse me of my english, but I not speak it usually! I tried to speak it the best I know!
sixflagsguy5 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Thanks for all the responses. I just needed to check to make sure that none of the parks were in ghetto's or anything. BTW, is there a maximum height restriction on Stunt Fall? On rcdb it doesnt say anything, but the two dejavu's i've been on both have a 6'4" height restriction which i just miss by two inches. Hopefully I won't grow any more by next year.
modelmaker Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I don't want to spoil your holidays but underneath you will find some pictures and information about the Dragon Khan and Templo del Fuego, the 2 best rides in Port Aventura. If you had the choice I should visit that park. In combination with Barcelona (most beautiful city of europe in my opinion). > Picture review of Dragon Khan > Video review of Templo del Fuego I have also visited Parque Warner Bros. I liked it, it is a nice park with an awesome collection of rollercoasters. My favorite is Batman over there, it is very intense and above that quite nicely themed. The whole park is well themed and above that it is normally quite over there. So in one day you can do all the rides and your favorite you can even double or triple. > Picture review of Batman la Fuga (text in dutch) Have fun in spain!
thomas2 Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 BTW, is there a maximum height restriction on Stunt Fall? On rcdb it doesnt say anything, but the two dejavu's i've been on both have a 6'4" height restriction which i just miss by two inches. Hopefully I won't grow any more by next year. Stunt Fall's height restriction is set at 195cm or 76.77 inch (sorry I'm not used to work with feet/inches)
modelmaker Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I rode stuntfall and I am 2,05 meters (6,7 ft)
thomas2 Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 ^Wow and they let you ride it?!? When I was there the ops told to a long guy who was 2m that he couldn't ride and he had to leave. I can't believe someone would let you on (sorry to say that ) if you're more then 10cm longer then the height restriction. That's just irrisponsable of the ride ops
USRoadTripper Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I think your four parks sound like great choices. I visited Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, PortAventura and Isla Magica this May, and found them all to very very nice, and definitely worth seeing. Parque was my favorite for some reason...I completely fell in love with that park!! PortAventura was a world class park with some really fantastic rides and coasters...don't miss Stampida or Templo del Fuego! Both of these parks were very easy to get to...Parque is almost directly on the Madrid Metro line, and PortAventura has it's own train station (we had to go to Tarragona then transfer to a train to PortAventura). You should really enjoy both parks! -Julie

I'm going to guess that your ship will be docking at Barcelona since that seems to be where most major cruises in Spain depart from. If that is the case Port Aventura will be very accessible to you. The Madrid parks will be about 6-7 hours west of Barcelona and Terra Mitica, is 5-6 hours south of Barcelona. The parks are quite far apart from each other. We have only visted the parks in Madrid. Personally I *LOVED* Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid. Probably one of the nicer "corporate" parks in Europe. Superman was a great B&M Floorless and their Batman was probably the best of all versions. Parque De Attraciones in Madrid was kind of a dump with poor operations. One train on the invert, line jumpers everywhere, and rides that took forever to open. The spinning coaster was quite good, but the Intamin invert was pretty "meh." IMO, if you only had time for one park in Madrid, do the Warner Bros Park. Overall, though Port Aventura, with everything I've heard, is *THE* park in Spain to visit. Spain does have a rail system with some high speed trains that will cut down on some travel as well: http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html Here are some links to help you out with your travel: Barcelona to Madrid Barcelona to Benidorm I hope this information is actually helpful to you! --Robb
sixflagsguy5 Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Thanks for all the help. And yes the cruise is out of Barcelona. We're either flying into Madrid of Paris now, so I'll just have to wait and see which city we're flying into before I can plan all the parks. I still don't get why we have to do a cruise in spain. Germany would be much better. There are more coasters and I talk prety good German.
robbalvey Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 ^ If you end up flying into Madrid, and your cruise is out of Barcelona, then you probably want to make sure you hit what I would consider the two "do not miss" parks in Spain - Parque Warner Madrid and Port Aventura. Yes, there will be other parks in both areas, but IMO, these are the two that you shouldn't miss. Have a great time! --Robb
sixflagsguy5 Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Thanks for all the advice. If the trip works out I'll post a trip report.
IceDragon Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 if you can, get to Malaga and go to Tivoliworld. opens from 18:00-02:00 (yes, in the morning!) has a great 200ft freefall tower, 2 rollercoasters, loads of flat rides, horror walks, log flume, fun house, etc... only 16 euros!!! well worth it!!!

Malaga is in the south of Spain, very far of all the other parks. I think that Tivoli World is a tipical small park, with no more of 100.000 visits year. It's not interesting. In order of priority: -PortAventura (Tarragona, Catalonia) -Parque Warner (Madrid) -Terra Mítica (Alicante, Valencia) -Parque de atracciones de Madrid (Madrid) -Isla Mágica (Sevilla, Andalucia) -Tibidabo (Barcelona, Catalonia) -Tívoli world (Málaga, Andalucia)

the sound Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Pfft, 200 feet? Why waist your time. Hurukan condor is nearly 40 meters taller than that. ThePhoenix at Terra Mitica is like 10 meters taller than that. I don't know how big the one at Warner Bros is, but its bigger than that. Why waste your time? In order of priority: -PortAventura (Tarragona, Catalonia) -Parque Warner (Madrid) -Terra Mítica (Alicante, Valencia) -Parque de atracciones de Madrid (Madrid) -Isla Mágica (Sevilla, Andalucia) -Tibidabo (Barcelona, Catalonia) -Tívoli world (Málaga, Andalucia) That is the most correct list, in my opinion of going to Port Aventura and Parque de atracciones and looking at there websites.
Showoffca Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 You don't say Isla Magica, a little park in Sevilla xD But in Sea Odissey you will can to refresh you with the best themed simulator in Europe! Thanks for the compliment ... I worked on that attractions theming design.
