CoasterCrazy Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I finally visited the Georgia Aquarium last Sunday. I thought the aquarium was awesome. The reason that I liked it was because I have always had a interest in Marine Biology. I plan on visiting the aquarium again once the animals have had a chance to grow because I think it will be interesting to see the changes that happen when all the animals start ageing. The exhibits that I liked the most were the Ocean Voyager and the Cold Water Quest. I highly recommend visiting the Georgia Aquarium if you have a interest in Marine Biology or just want to visit one of the best attractions in Atlanta. Goodbye! I will be visiting the Georgia Aquarium again someday. The last exhibit was the Georgia Explorer and it was my least favorite exhibit. Here is the last picture that I took in the River Scout exhibit. Here is the second to last picture I took in this exhibit. Here is one of the three pictures that I took in this exhibit. I didn't get many pictures from the River Scout exhibit because the battery on camera was almost empty. ............ ............ ............ ............. ............. ............. ............. The next couple of pictures are from the Tropical Diver exhibit. Here is a up close picture of the penguins. Its time for some African Penguins. Here is a picture of one of the Sea Otters. Some facts about Sea Otters. ............. ............. ............. The next couple of pictures will be of the Beluga Whales. Huge Red Crabs. The next exhibit I visited was Cold Water Quest. Anyone can find something to eat at the Georgia Aquarium. The upper level has a little viewing window. Here is the other picture that I took. Here is one of the two pictures that I took of the Oceans Ballroom. After the Ocean Voyager exhibit I went to the upper level of the aquarium to look at the Oceans Ballroom. You can either stand and look at the window or you can sit down. Also, if you hang around long enough you will get to see the show that happen every 30 minutes. Here is some information about the large acrylic window you are going to see in the next picture. Here is a picture of a Bowmouth Guitarfish. Here is a picture of some Golden Trevally. Here is a picture of a Whale Shark. Here is a picture of a Cownose Rey. Here is a up close picture of a Giant Grouper aka a Giant Seabass. You can either walk through the tunnel or you can ride on a moving sidewalk. I visited the Ocean Voyager exhibit first. Here is the entrance. The Georgia Aquarium looks big from the outside.
niiicolaaah Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Very cool, I was there a few years ago. Ewww, Beluga whales!
BeemerBoy Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Call me crazy, but your Sea Otter pic looked more like a Sea Lion to me? Maybe you just labeled 'em wrong. Anyway, nice report. I'm dying to get down to this thing soon! EDIT: ^ Nicole, you mean you were in Atlanta a few years ago, right?
BeemerBoy Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Not sure the was needed? I'm just saying that your post made it seem like you were at the aquarium a few years ago, when in fact, it's not even a year old. Scott "man, I'm nitpicky today for some reason" B.
pkdcoaster Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Really good Aquarium pics I have been to the Myrtle Beach, VA Beach, and Baltimore Aquariums and they are alot of fun. Baltimore's has an excellent dolphin show. Isnt the GA Aquarium the largest in the USA? how far a drive is this Aquarium from SFOG? TIA, JEFF
BeemerBoy Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 ^ Largest in the world now. And it's about a 15-25 minute drive from SFOG? Locals, am I about right on that? You can see downtown ATL (where the Aquarium is) from Goliath, if that helps any.
ScOtT k Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 That looks like a very nice aquarium. Denver has an aquarium called ocean jounrey. There is a restaurant that you can eat at. The restaurant is built underwater. It is very cool.
Louise Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Wow, I love aquariums, and that one seems way nicer than any I've ever been to. Nice pictures Anthony. I <3 otters and Beluga whales!
QuakerOaties Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Wow what a nice aquarium! Thanks for the pictures. Mark "Makes me want to go to the Baltimore aquarium" Luskus
colinmom71 Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 ^ Actually, they now have 4 Whale Sharks. They added two females (the 2 original sharks are males) to the exhibit about two months ago. So we now have Ralph, Norton, Alice, and Trixie. It would probably be about a 20-30 minute drive to the GA Aquarium from the SFoG area, if you're not heading there during peak commuting traffic times. The Aquarium is located adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park in the downtown area. http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/ - The Visit Us link at the top of the page has the link for the page for Driving Directions. You'll want the directions for I-20 from the West of Atlanta.
BeemerBoy Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 ^Holy HUGE exhibit Batman! Are they actually planning on breeding these things? I mean, Ralph and Norton can't possibly have reached full maturity yet, right? Two whale sharks is pretty ambitious, but four? WOW. Thanks for the update. I seriously need to make it down there soon.
colinmom71 Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Apparently all the whale sharks are not yet at sexual maturity for breeding. Aquarium officials likened their current ages as being in the pre-teen stage as compared to humans. But yeah, they do intend to pursue a breeding program for them in a few years time. So far, all the sharks are thriving well in their new home so hopefully their efforts will be successful...
