Does Anyone Feel This Way (Six Flags)

Recommended Posts

This may just be my personal (crazy) opinion, but does anyone else out there really want Six Flags to succeed through all their troubles even though the parks arent the nicest or friendly in the world.

What I'm trying to say is that I in a way have an attatchment to SF and want to see if anyone else has that same feeling!

EDIT-- this post sounds stupider than I ment it to sound. What I really meant to say was to ask if people had like an attatchment to the SF brand! (retarted... huh!)

Yeah, I've just always felt a strong hope that SF would "RULE ALL"!!!!

Okay, doesnt have to dominate!

I just liek them because they seem to take more chances than some other parks do. (No more chance taking anymore though)

The SF parks I have been to have been bad places with great coasters (excluding La Ronde that didn't even have the coaster in 2005), I feel compelled to go because of the coasters even if the park experience can be appalling at times, SFNE was nice though.

I would like to see them get out of trouble, they have stated they want to improve customer service so lets hope they succeed on that front, but that massive debt and the associated servicing costs is going to take a lot of work to get into reasonable shape.

I have a sentimental attachment to six flags, Magic Mountain was the first US park I ever went to (I saw it in Encino Man and had to go), in fact, it was what I did on my first full day on mainland USA.

The only theme parks nearby me are Six Flags or SeaWorld, and given the choice, I'd rather go to a place with more coasters.

Plus, if you live in Texas, going to Six Flags as a kid is a "rite of passage". Or at least it was to us. I don't want kids to grow up without those kinds of memories, nor do I want mine removed.

I really do like the SF parks I've been to (SFMM only, haha). The coasters are great... they just need to work on the problems of cleaniness and good staff and they could start gettin' up there towards Cedar Fair parks in my opinion...

Maybe the execs at SF need to look at some of the TPR european trip reports to see what theme parks are supposed to look like. It seems as though these large corporate owned parks in the US are becoming experiences equivalent to going to the mall. Nasty enironments, no character or history. Sure the corporate money brings in the high dollar rides but the parks always seem to lose a lot in many other ways.

I think about what a cool place Dorney park was years ago before Cedar Fair took over and tore many old historical rides and sanitized the place. Or how SFGADV has been butchered over the years.

Maybe the best thing for some of these parks is to get sold off; maybe they could become on their own places as unique as Hersheypark, Holiday World, or Knoebels.

I feel that Shapiro and company are over-dramatizing the trouble the chain is in .. most likely to make themselves even bigger heros when they save it.

I mean, look at least year .. even with the old guys in charge, attendance was climbing, and the parks were improving.

We may lose a few of the Six Flags parks, which will be a shame, but I'm confident that the company as a whole will survive.

And for the record, I agree with Joe .. I'm way down on Cedar Fair, and think they're probably #3 as far as quality goes. But then again, I think rain is wet so who am I to judge?!

Cameron.

Edit to fix spelling..

Well, I've gone to Six Flags Great Adventure since I was 6 and now I'm 28. I have so many great (no pun intended) memories from that park. The problem with that is that very few of my great or even good memories are from recent years. Sure I love the new coasters but the ratio of a total day of fun in the 80s and 90s compared to the last several years is minimal. I just dont have fun there like I used to. Like I should. If anything, I keep finding more things that I dislike about the park and the experience of going there every time I visit.

So... I honestly would not care too awful much if the park shut down and/or the company went belly-up. It's if the park and franchise goes belly-up AFTER they really REALLY turn things around and give a better park and expeirience that I would really be upset over.

If you walk around SFGADV and make a list of all the rides and attractions that have been lost over the past 20 years it far outnumbers what has been gained. I love the new coasters too, but that is all this park is about these days. Suck em in and grab their money on junky souvenirs and games. Trade Kingda Ka for all the flats that have been lost (which may total less money than KK) and we'd have a much better park.
