  1. Come on guys, those aren't AT-AT's. They're obviously cyborg turtles walking on stilts attached to enlarged dome plate covers. Sheesh.
  2. Just spitballing here, but isn't it rather counter-intuitive to build a big new water park, one that they're pushing as a "third theme park", and then implement a queue system that requires a severe cap on attendance?
  3. I'd be happier with an announcement that they weren't going to keep hiring 14-16yr olds for cheap labor and using horrible operations to run their parks.
  4. The WDW monorails were last updated in 1991 so something's going to be happening with them in the not too distant future. Maybe they'll pull a Disneyland and simply replace the trains and perform structural upkeep on the existing beams. There's road construction happening at WDW that appears to be aimed at creating a dedicated Busway down the middle of Buena Vista Drive. The Disney Springs end is already done and it looks like they're aiming to complete this all the way back to World Drive. That should make the buses run a little more efficiently. Maybe the same will come to World Drive in conjunction with whatever's going to happen up at the MK toll booth area now that the race track is history. Adding a new gondola system of sorts should make it that much easier to get around along with the ground improvements.
  5. And here I thought I was the only one who was doing that. They're even parodying the once-rumored Mt Fuji coaster for Japan.
  6. The only people who would be pissed are the ones who believe that monthly payments are the only way they can afford to have an AP, and then project their entitled attitude as frustration at Disney for taking it away. The kind that have an AP just to pop in for a few hours whenever they feel like it and spend relatively little. I'm sure the families who drop thousands on once a year or once in a lifetime trips, who've never had the ability to pay monthly for their trip outside of credit financing, will enjoy having less of these people cramming the park.
  7. Star Wars Episode IX is tentatively scheduled for release on May 23, 2019. I'm sure that and the announcement of Star Wars Lands opening in 2019 are totally unrelated.
  8. The Christmas update sucked, but there's a new one out yesterday which looks to be about traveling around to different countries. So far this has been at least mildly entertaining. There's an airport now which is a free insta-build. "AmericaTown" is now available for donuts. Cesar and Ugolin from the episode where Bart went to Paris are the top prize in Act 1 of this update. If anybody still has this app installed, it's worth a look.
  9. Some people have this bizarre expectation that they should not have to pay for anything Disney provides to enhance their visit in any way.
  10. The coaster with the worst ending I've ever been on has to be Ninja @ SFMM. Because nothing says "exciting finish" like stopping, and then slowly going up a lift hill that leads nowhere but into the loading station. Best ending for me has been Outlaw Run's barrel rolls. Take those out and you'd still have one of the best wooden coasters in the world. The speed, air time, 90 degrees etc all make for a great ride and then it's topped off by a woodie doing barrel rolls. Love it!
  11. I can't believe it's been 10 years since I last visited Tokyo and Tokyo Disney. What Robb says about the people, the level of service and once you've experienced it, you get it is absolutely 100% true. It's so far & away apart from the norm in this country that people here just can't seem to fully comprehend it. They don't seem to be able to believe or imagine that a theme park staff or its clientele could be that nice, that efficient, and simply just not terrible BUT IT'S TRUE! I need to go back and experience it again, especially after commuting in/out of the San Fernando Valley for a few years now. Having done that, going back might be a more startling experience than it was the first time.
  12. I heard stories like this while on the trip last July, and I still can't quite comprehend how a human being could be this terrible to the people who put in an incalculable amount of work into creating what should be every coaster enthusiast's dream - to travel around the world riding the best coasters on the planet and have a great time doing it. That just seems so counter intuitive to me but I have noticed how a lot of people these days, in addition to being whiny and entitled, are also rather self-destructive and think it's everyone else's fault they're that way. I don't know where it comes from but I'm just glad TPR is kept free of these sorts as much as possible. Again, more work put in so the rest of us can have an awesome time. I hope you guys know how much that's appreciated by those of us who recognize how difficult it is to do that!
  13. Most people aren't going to multiple parks in the chain to notice any difference in how Flash Pass is administered. Different parks with different rides have different needs. Look at what Disney is doing differently with digital FastPass on both coasts as a perfect example of that.
  14. Well, I'm going to WDW next weekend. As of this moment, thanks to FP+, I know I'm going to be riding Thunder Mtn, Splash Mtn, and Space Mtn in the middle of the day on a Saturday without waiting in any stand-by queues. I would LOVE to be able to do the same thing when going to Disneyland since Saturdays are about the only days I can go. Sadly there are far too many terrible entitled AP's who'd abuse the crap out of the system if a similar option was made available. That said, if there was a paid option that would make it easier to reserve a FP+ time for rides like Frozen and Mine Train, I'd be all for it. Those were all taken by the time I had secured my WDW admission.
  15. I wouldn't count on that. FP+ also provides the ability to choose your own FP return time which MaxPass most likely won't since the old FP system is still being used. Basically what I'm expecting is the app works the same as it does now, except on the screen that displays a ride's currently available FP time, there'll be a new button that says "reserve now" or something like that. Click that, then the system issues you a time just as though you scanned your ticket at the machine. Then if you try to get another FP for another ride, the app will display an error message saying you have to wait until your window opens or 2 hours pass much like the black reject ticket that spits out from a FP machine if you try to get another FP too early. Then there'll be another window somewhere that displays your currently held FP with a code for the greeter CMs at each ride entrance to scan with the same device that redeems the DAS times. We'll see what actually happens but that's what I'd expect based on current information.
  16. More like they'll be told by these echo chamber hysterical websites that MaxPass is the reason they can no longer just show up at 3pm on Saturday and get their paper ticket FP anymore, much like how they still perpetuate the silly myth that FP causes wait times to double or triple. I've already seen the complaints that adding FP will instantly cause wait times for Midway Mania to jump to 90mins or more on a regular basis simply because that's what happens at Hollywood Studios at WDW. Apparently nobody seems concerned with the fact that DHS has 2-3x the average daily attendance compared to DCA...
  17. Oh man there's some comedy gold in the comment section on the Blog... Yes, people really are this stupid. Um...WTF?? First FP riders are walking through the line, then suddenly there's a long line of FP riders. Then this person is shocked to find the FP queue is prioritized over the main queue. FP has been around nearly 20 years! She apparently frequents Disneyland and just now realizes this?? Pays somewhere around $850-$1050 for an AP. Thinks the included Photopass stuff is free... The announcement doesn't say what price AP's will pay for this, but even the prospect of paying an extra $10 on top of $850+ has this person "quite upset" Humanity is growing dumber at such an alarming rate, but it seems like in this area we're rocketing ever faster into Idiocracy...
  18. Can't reserve days in advance like FP+, but the Disneyland phone app can tell you what time window is being offered at any ride that offers FP tickets. You will need to go to the ride and insert your park ticket in a machine that will spit out a FP ticket. After that, you can go get another FP ticket in another park immediately, or you can get a FP for another ride once your window opens/2 hours after you got your first FP, whichever comes first.
  19. ^ SF will reuse names like Goliath in their respective parks because it saves money on trademark fees, having to design new logos, etc. They are not concerned at all with discussions amongst coaster nerds possibly becoming confusing. Since you brought up naming humans, it's pretty easy to tell humans apart even if they have the same name. For example, I would never confuse Elissa Alvey with my sister's friend Elissa who used to live down the street. I'd know better. Coaster nerds should have no problem at all telling the difference between Goliath @ SFMM and Goliath @ SFFT or SFGAm as they are all completely different types of coasters.
  20. ^^^ Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm a little sad that Waterfront's not being torn down and rebuilt in the process. I still pity anyone who has to work in those dreadfully old kitchens.
  21. The AP's have had months to get their last rides in, and the much higher than at any other point in its life wait times are evidence of that. What's one more week going to do other than just unnecessarily add to the expense of operating the ride? As Joey rightly points out, the vast majority of people are back to work/school on January 3. There's no point in waiting any longer. Any AP who didn't get their last ride in during the months that they had has no one but themselves to blame.
  22. Not a huge shock. Today's the last day that Deluxe and Signature AP's are valid until after New Year's/after Tower of Terror closes for good.
  23. As someone who actually prefers to enter Disneyland by walking to the monorail station and riding the monorail directly into Tomorrowland, I had no idea how much of a huge mistake I was making by skipping the "opening act" entirely. The Express Bus service is a good idea and one that I would most certainly look into using if I was ever at WDW without a car. Time is what you're really paying for at any theme park. Any option to maximize use of that time is in a guest's best interest IMO. Some people choose to waste the time they've paid for, and that's OK. Some don't. This express bus service does not impact the ones who choose not to use it at all whatsoever. But to be clear, that's entirely their choice. These buses are a bargain compared to the average price of a rental car in Orlando. Why someone would complain about them is beyond me.
  24. That checkpoint will only be for those intending to board the trams. There is a re-routed walking path for anyone who chooses to hoof it over to Downtown Disney and enter through the new security checkpoint set up in the old taxi/valet stop in front of ESPN Zone. With the way the tents are configured, it looks like there might be a middle gap for a 'Guests Without Bags' entrance. One can only hope!
  25. What about also including AP's whose tickets have been scanned at a park's entrance that day? Make the AP's register their pass with the Disneyland app (like many already have), then only open access to the FP reservation portal in the app once that pass is activated for entry at the turnstiles. Can't cheat at that without violating non-transferability rules, and can't advance reserve Hyperspace Mountain every single day of the year just to have one whenever they want.
