  1. I don't think I would. I'd try the old tried & true strategy of trying to go on an off-season Tuesday-Thursday. But if that failed & my only choice was either cough up the dough or have a really miserable experience waiting in long lines in horrendous heat...that'd be a tough choice. It would depend on the park & how much I really wanted/needed to ride everything that day. Now I'm curious, why don't they just say a regular Flash Pass is $45 for the first person & $29 per additional person, and Gold is $90 & $54 per additional person? It's a simple pattern. That language would sound a whole lot better than having the big, scary three-digit figures up there on the sign. Listen to it: "Buy the Flash Pass $45 AND add your friends for JUST $29 each! Buy the GOLD Flash Pass for $90, plus JUST $54 for each additional friend!" Doesn't that sound better than those scary multiplied numbers that intimidate the crap out of you?
  2. FYI - Interstates 5, 405 and 210 have reopened. 14 is still closed at San Fernando Road (Newhall Ave.) because of the fire that's still burning on the southeast corner of the SCV. As for the QBot, those prices are INSANE!! No wonder the people who use it love it so much. It outprices just about everyone, so those select few who do use it don't have any competition. But, as nutty as it is, it's like selling water in the Sahara desert. When the summer weekends come, people will pay that & more to not have to wait in those horrendous lines in 100+ degree heat. Ergo, the park makes insane amounts of money, which is GOOD for a place like Magic Mountain. Boatloads of revenue with little to no operating expense. It's nuts, but it's the kind of thing a debt-laden park chain needs. So, I for one, welcome our new QBot overlords.
  3. Current freeway/road closures 5 in both directions between 126 and 118. Southbound I-5 being diverted onto the 126 and told to proceed west to the 101. 14 between San Fernando Road (Newhall Ave) and 5 405 between 118 & 5 210 between 5 & 118 Balboa north of San Fernando Road The Old Road at Calgrove through the Newhall Pass Metrolink service on the Antelope Valley Line is cancelled all day today. If you're attempting to reach SFMM from anywhere south, best to pick another day. As of now, unless you feel like traveling out to Moorpark, going north to Fillmore, and then maybe making your way east here on the 126, you won't make it out of the SF Valley. When this happens, traffic within the Santa Clarita Valley becomes horrendous. Stay home, try again once the fires are out and the roads are back open.
  4. Um, call me crazy here, but I wouldn't exactly feel comfortable entrusting my safety to people who couldn't spell safety! If their signs are wrought with spelling/grammar errors, that's a problem! Professionalism, anyone?
  5. Good luck Robb!! Though it wasn't my original goal, I did about 100lbs in about 120 days from September to December 2002. It was just about the best thing that I've ever done for myself. Go for the insane, then go beyond the insane, and keep going!!
  6. UK + Europe trip in 2010? What an interesting thought... I just might target that for my first TPR trip!
  7. A retheme to Lex Luthor would be a pretty "bald" choice...
  8. Having the free parking applicable to all Six Flags parks is an additional bonus. A possible offset of the loss of the free Flash Pass as it turns into QBot?
  9. What's important is that the severe pains that came with Psyclone are gone forever, and won't be coming back with Terminator.
  10. Before New Year's, crowds will likely be bad. Jan 1, 2, 3 will see a steady decline in crowds with most/all of them gone by Jan 3.
  11. It's the typo version of my name's acronym.
  12. El Toro doesn't come off as looking 'classic' to me, but this isn't El Toro as we know. Point is, no, not all woodies have a vintage look or feel to them.
  13. Yeah I guess it's good that X2 wasn't built in a place like New Jersey...
  14. Viper's moderately painful going forwards. I don't want to think about it going backwards. Yikes! I've been more of a fan of the "Coasters in the Dark" idea...especially with fire.
  15. Someone please inform me of the wonderful thrills & effects the themes of Batman, Riddler's, Goliath, Tatsu, Viper, Superman, etc all have on the actual coaster. Once the train leaves the station, it's all coaster, doesn't matter if it's wood or steel. So what's stopping a Terminator theme from giving this ride an awesome queue? Nothing. Then the PR does talk about some audio effects and other effects on the ride that are planned that have to do with the theme. This is going to be the first woodie with on-board audio. That all sounds like this is something to look forward to, but 26 pages of mostly complaints & complaints about complaints? Wow. Anyone for optimism? Optimism, anyone?
  16. You know what, I'm going to totally take back my previous concerns about a Terminator theme being too intense/possibly being a turn off for families. If this ride follows Magic Mountain's standard theme pattern (for the coasters that attempted to have a theme), the theme only pertains to the entrance/queue/exit, maybe gives the trains a certain look to them, and that's all. That can be done pretty well at Magic Mountain given what they've done to X2's queue as an example of a Jay Thomas-era attempt at themeing a coaster. Even though the first 2 Terminators were R-rated movies, I think T3 was PG-13 and I believe Salvation is supposed to be aiming for a PG-13 rating as well. Doesn't sound like there'd be any problems actually creating this theme, assuming they make a real attempt at themeing. Also, when you really think about it, how much of a theme can a roller coaster, steel or wood really have during the actual ride? Think about it. You're going waaaay too darn fast to notice hardly anything whizzing by you. So I don't really see how much it really matters to have a Terminator theme if you're flying through inversions on a steel, or bouncing around on a wood coaster. 99% of any coaster's theme is done in the queue and loading house! The coaster is then the coaster. If anything, having a woodie makes the props set up along the route (assuming they do that) more easily noticed than on steel coasters. Having a Terminator-themed queue can be really well done & fun with proper investment of money, time & creative effort. After that, a fun GCI woodie puts the ribbon on the package. When the real ride is built, I doubt anyone at all will wonder why they're riding a woodie instead of a steel.
  17. A height requirement attracts families?? Wow, Disney's really been trying too hard these past 53 years! No, my point was that the Terminator theme is a little counter-productive to the family-friendliness of the 'medium-level' ride. The ride looks nice, but then a theme conveying the prospect of evil machines trying to annihilate humanity might turn away little Timmy & Tammy...
  18. Through all the concept art, I always ask myself if what I'm seeing could justify in my mind paying the same for this as Disneyland. Until the Mermaid ride and Cars Land ride are built, and the World of Color show goes online, that answer is "no." We'll see if those change that answer, but I have to actually see them for myself first. No amount of rebranding existing rides or adding trolley cars is going to change it.
  19. I'm betting Jay Thomas & Tim Burkhart are looking at 13 pages of these sort of complaints from the hardcore enthusiasts as nothing but a good thing. All these complaints do is tell them that they've successfully hit a middle ground away from the giant thrills and have a good chance at hitting the family-friendliness area with an exciting 'medium-level' ride. But then I sort of have to wonder how a Terminator theme is going to help with the family-friendliness aspect. Terminator films aren't exactly what I'd call 'family entertainment' even though I regularly see kids in the T2:3D Universal attraction. I guess that should tell me what I need to know about that, but I still wonder...
  20. Well after two SoCal parks already revamped existing rides in the hopes that the public believes they've really built a brand new ride, maybe it'll work for Disney too!
  21. Just out of curiousity, why would high winds only close X2?
