  1. Also the genius behind X, known today as X2, all the way back in the Arrow Dynamics days if I'm not mistaken. The guy is an out-of-the-box thinker for sure. Of the rare breed who doesn't let people telling him it's not possible, will never work, etc stop him.
  2. Fine by me. Let the crazies each other over spots in the viewing areas on 5/22. I'll be happy to cruise on up for easy viewing of the new stuff on the evening of Saturday 5/23 while they're all home recovering.
  3. Not to depress anybody but those hotels are known to charge their own parking fees. It should be cheaper than the park's parking fee but don't expect a freebie.
  4. Don't count on it. The original Soarin' Over CA is already closed for the same kinds of projector upgrades that the article mentioned, but it won't be expanding with a third theatre yet. When it reopens, it will sport an HD version of the same film which will look amazing. Personally I hope it always stays CA-only. That way I can continue to be entertained by WDW guests who have no clue it's all CA and think the vistas really are from all over the place. When the night flight through Downtown LA hits I have heard many times "OOOOHHH New York!!!"
  5. "Twisted 'Wiches Street Deli - Home of the 'Coloss-wich', 'Scream-wich' and other sandwiches." Not exactly Colossus Cookery, but it would be pretty cool if these were made fresh Subway-style or even Jimmy John's-style.
  6. Fireworks are never going to completely go away. That said, Disneyland would be wise to design a nighttime show that would be minimally impacted if the firework shells are unable to be launched because of wind conditions or other factors.
  7. Any tips on making tickets in Krustyland faster? I built a small forest of Krustyland Burgers but they don't seem to be paying out tickets like the first one built in one of the first Krustyland quests does.
  8. Guess we won't have to wonder how Ninja will get removed with all the trees in the way anymore...
  9. 1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device? (or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.) Just the desktop computer. Autoplay vids and metered data usage on phones don't work together too well. The "only on Wi-Fi" setting has proven unreliable, at least on my phone. 2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page? Can't say I do it regularly but I have shared things in the past. 3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?) Probably photos and new stories. Not so much videos. It mostly depends on the content and how personally relevant it is to me/my friends. 4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored? Generally I'll only watch what I intend to watch. So if I watch the video at all, I would watch the whole thing. 5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video) Not important at all. I pay more attention to what the subject of the video actually is rather than a random thumbnail. 6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you? I don't use Twitter much at all, so I'm still using the FB News Feed as a news feed. It works well in that regard. I tend to dismiss the random postings that say "LIKE if you love roller coasters!" or some other inconsequential remark. Too many of those become annoying, but so far you guys haven't put up *too many* in my opinion. 7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of? I could use less of those "LIKE if you like coasters that go fast!" -style posts, but I understand why they are done. More news stories and such would help, but you guys can't control the rate at which news breaks and you're already doing a good job of posting the bigger stories. I like the moment to moment news-type stuff, but maybe I should just get more involved with Twitter for that. I just fear what Twitter would do to my phone, or my free time! More Robb opinion pieces on coaster dorks, the amusement industry, or fanboys in general would be fun. Those are always entertaining to read.
  10. I sort of doubt the refurb has much of anything to do with how "rough" it feels. They're usually more concerned with its ability to stay open and withstand the increased demand that will spill over from TC.
  11. World of Color apparently has an announced celebrity host. Disneyland Forever does not. Hmm, I wonder why that is?
  12. I don't understand this obsession with Scream!'s land. Yes, it was built on what used to be a parking lot. But that is FAR from the worst problem SFMM faces. It's not even really a problem. It's only a problem to people who, for some reason, get really hung up over the ground they see whizzing by while they're on the coaster. TBH, I've seen much worse looking dirt and weeds under coasters than what's under Scream!.
  13. So instead of "Moving Pictures" NPH can sing about moving fountains! Moving fountainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnns....
  14. F1 has more money than SFMM will ever understand. If SFMM ever had the money for something like that, there are about 94,361 other higher priorities that it should address first.
  15. I'm guessing the whole felons thing will make more sense later on. Right now it takes a 12 hour task in the form of three 4-hour tasks to defeat them. With only two heroes, plus the one available through donuts, defeating them will take a while for casual players.
  16. So he came up with the "Disney Vault" idea for the movies. Maybe his first move in this role will be to only let new AP's be sold every 7 years?
  17. If it makes you feel any better, there is a backstage access road that traverses the ground underneath Scream. I had the chance to drive it many times in my years there. It used to connect to other access roads in/around Colossus and Hurricane Harbor. TC's construction probably has eliminated the use of those roads for the time being though.
  18. Alright I'm signed up for the Knott's team! So stoked to actually do it this year!
  19. It's ok to join an existing team, right? I'm thinking of joining up with the Knott's team for my first time doing this. It sounds like a blast for a great cause.
  20. Issue #2 unlocks in a little more than 3 days. I guess they figure that's the minimum time it would take to complete Issue #1.
  21. When I try to add friends from the list through Origin, half the names come up for me as not found. Is it something I'm doing wrong?
  22. ^ I think what was being referred to with the comment about the park flattening out areas was the pictures of the walkway leading to Colossus that used to be relatively lush and well-shaded with many trees. In the pictures, it appears the park is having just about all of those trees removed, not unlike what happened with the area in front of the old Palace arcade when Full Throttle's entrance was being built. I agree that I don't really understand it either. The only thing I can think of is ease of foot traffic in/out of the food service location's area. It used to be that you could walk to Colossus and hardly notice that restaurant was even there because of the way the paths were configured. That would need to change if they ever expected people to stop into that location en masse for some grub. Even then, it's still way far away from any major food service hub. I wonder what the department has in mind to keep that building from being the virtual Gilligan's Island it always seemed to be. Further up the hill, there's also the concrete slab that served as a place to advertise new cars for many, many years that recently hasn't and probably won't serve that purpose ever again. That desperately needs to be dealt with. Maybe they even intend to lessen the grade of that particular hill itself? Guess we will have to wait and see.
  23. ^ Again, it really seems as though you simply do not understand the effects FastPass actually has, and are preferring to cling to long debunked claims. I think you may want to pay attention to those of us here who work and have worked for years in the industry, have been to parks all over the world, have a great deal of personal experience with just about every queue system that has ever been implemented and know what we are talking about. Also, I've said multiple times that it's important to recognize the differences between a ride reservation system like FP and FP+, and a paid skip-the-line pass, and that I have been referring to a ride reservation system.
  24. The official announcement has already been made. Disney Parks Blog
  25. It bothers me when some people are so incredibly convinced that they are right and that they have to be right that they think simply repeating themselves over & over again will make them right because they are right. If you don't like the use of misconceptions, you probably shouldn't use them yourself. The ride reservation system isn't there so you wait less. It actually means you're going to be waiting a lot more. With FP+ you'll be waiting days, weeks, or even months for your reservation to be up and your chance to ride to arrive. The only difference it makes is that the wait can now take place elsewhere than a stuffy ride queue. You can even be waiting for one ride while waiting for another ride. This leads me to this statement: I'm sorry but this makes absolutely no sense at all. When I ride Splash Mountain with a FP ticket for Space Mountain in my pocket whose window doesn't open for another 8 hours, nobody is waiting longer for anything. The basis from which you reach your "zero sum game" conclusion is inherently flawed. Yes I can ride Splash Mountain while holding a FP ticket for Space Mountain, but that doesn't mean I'm in two places at once. I may have gotten on Splash via the single rider line, meaning I'm in a seat that would have been empty. Who's waiting longer? Nobody. No, holding a Space Mountain FP only means that after waiting 8 hours for Space Mountain, I won't have to wait behind people who chose to wait 45mins in a stand-by queue instead of getting a reservation ticket. My time stuck in a queue is greatly diminished, and those in the stand-by line only have to get in line behind those who didn't get a reservation instead of behind everyone who wants to ride. Take the reservation system away and wait times will go up, but it won't be a directly proportional difference since many who would have used FP but can't now won't get in line to ride at all without it. Many people in a stand-by line are holding FP tickets or FP+ times for other rides. Can you really be sure you can measure EXACTLY what would have happened had the system not existed? No, you can't. To think you can is to only build assumptions upon a flawed premise. There is no zero sum game. All circumstances affect others in different ways with differing outcomes. Honestly I thought this was all settled by now since FastPass systems have been around for 17 some odd years. I thought the zero sum game myth perpetrated by a different and often wrong website was long since debunked but I guess not. Another problem I have is when you call people who don't use FP "general public" when in the case of a ride reservation system that is included with park admission, everyone who buys that admission has the chance to use it. We're ALL general public. We all have equal access to the same information, namely what is written on a park map regarding FastPass. Our own individual choices determine how much the system will benefit our day. For example, arriving at 7pm greatly diminishes how much benefit the system will provide compared to someone who arrives at park opening, but both users originally had equal chance of using the system. Sometimes people realize they made poor choices about their day but that is not the fault of the FP system. If you're angry about how long you had to wait in line for a ride, the answer is not to make everyone else wait in line just as long as you did. The answer is to make better choices. Arrive at the park earlier. Go to the park on a less crowded day. Learn more about the ride reservation system and how it works. If none of these choices are an option, yet you still must attend the park, be prepared to accept the results.
