Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^ Unfortunately the only single rider line in the park is on Diamondback. Lines after 5 can be hit or miss at least in past years. It can either stay busy or be pretty light. A lot depends on if there is a concert at Timberwolf that night. Check before you go. -
Photo TR: Indiana Beach 6/3/10

^Better than the rides being damaged by flooding... Anyway, I'm shocked too to hear your report on Cornball. The air in the backseat on the first drop alone is one of the most amazing moments on any wooden coaster for me. It's strong and has laterals at the same time. Maybe you just caught it on a bad day. Hoosier however has never provided hardly any airtime for me, which is sad because I love how the ride looks. I think I may have experienced a couple slight floater hills in certain seats on Hoosier Hurricane but nothing that compares to the ejector on Cornball. -

^ The same thing that happens when it rains, which is nothing, as this isn't a wheel-driven coaster. The wheels don't need friction to propel the coaster, gravity is doing that. -
Indiana Beach in late August

You can do the entirety of IB in a few hours. You'll have a great time. Bring a camera as Indiana Beach is one of the the most photogenic amusement parks out there, and definitely bring your appetite for the good food. Also plan on playing a few rounds of fascination so plan a few extra dollars for it. You shouldn't have too much trouble doing everything, provided everything is open. Indiana Beach is quite a different park from Holiday World, and I always have a pretty good time there. There's something about the atmosphere that makes Indiana Beach one of my all-time favorite amusement parks. Enjoy and post a photo-TR if you can! Too few people make it out to this gem! -
New themepark for West Virginia?

I'll believe it when I see it. It would be a nice addition to a trip to Kennywood, though. It isn't very far... -

Bring back the darkride... I hate walking past remnants on the way to Blue Streak... -
Most likely you were slightly dehydrated or already physically exhausted. I experienced something similar at B:TR at SFMM after being up all night for the Tatsu campout. I just needed a break. Just watch yourself when you're at a park and you're all "gotta go to the next ride" and you forget to take care of your body's basic needs of food, water, and rest.

^ What better way to promote a park you own down south to a bunch of coaster enthusiasts... -

^ Seriously! I think I speak for many here when I say we'd love to watch 2 minutes of you getting hit in the face with bugs... -

This ride is doing better than I305, at least they haven't added trims to it, yet! -
I agree, Robb. Cincinnati has a ton of parks within 12 hours, too. Heck, you can even get to NYC in only 10 hours by car. The day trips aren't what bothers me, though. I still have fun taking a little trip by myself, but going to Kings Island alone is just lame now. I do think it might have to do with the corporate nature of the park a little. I think if I lived next to a smaller park, even a corporate one that just feels like an old fashioned family park, it would be different. I could see myself hanging out at Indiana Beach all the time if I lived near there (especially since I wouldn't always have to get a ride bracelet, I could just hang out there and watch the shows and eat the tacos.) I think it's just that Kings Island has lost all the variety of things to do since I've lived here. I mean, when we first moved down here it had the dualing antique car rides in the middle of the park which were awesome, not to mention the flying eagles which were always fun to either ride or just watch. Plus there were more shows, with bands walking around playing music. Just the atmosphere was friendlier. When I was there the girl on the Racer PA system was sarcastic as heck. It was so annoying. She was all "Welcome back riders how was your ride?" and when not a lot of people said anything: "Sounds GREAT" in the most annoying sarcastic teenage girl voice ever. And she did this every time. Plus I hardly saw any employee smiling. I don't know if the little things like that would help, but it sure bugs me to notice and makes me realize I could have more fun sitting at home watching Netflix.

So here's my question: I went to Kings Island yesterday, and rode Diamondback 3 times, Beast twice, Vortex and Racer once, Jr. Vekoma, Adventure Express, Flight Deck, Invertigo, Stunt Track and the new Boo Blasters ride. Sounds like a good day, right? Especially for only 4 hours. See, the thing is I had planned to stay the whole day at Kings Island. I purchased a ticket (almost $50 at the gate, with $10 parking) as I am no longer a season pass holder. I just wasn't having fun after only a few hours. Part of it I think was the lack of ANY shows going on (There's some rock band live thing starting later this week, and an ice show starting later this week, and some kareoke show at night on International Street, but that's it!), and part is I've already ridden everything so much that it just bores me more than anything. Even Diamondback's layout seemed boring and uneventful after riding it so much last year. Is this a problem any of you share? How do you deal with it? Am I the only one who lives within 20 minutes of a park that I don't have a season pass to because it's no longer fun for me?

I've seen fencing put up in a day over much larger areas than this with a medium-sized crew of people. As far as construction goes, a simple queue line wouldn't take more than 1-2 weeks, tops. I wouldn't worry about it. If all else fails they can put up those temporary queue gates used at parades and fairs around the country. um... how long would this take to put up? -

Ahem: puffery: Definition Advertising or sales presentation relying on exaggerations, opinions, and superlatives, with little or no credible evidence to support its vague claims. Puffery may be tolerated to an extent so long as it does not amount to misrepresentation (false claim of possessing certain positive attributes or of not possessing certain negative attributes). Sorry, lawsuit-seekers. No dice. -
Yeah yeah, as soon as I get my passport renewed I come across the river and visit ya... (and of course, after getting all the necessary shots) In al seriousness, though, this whole situation stinks more than the Reds Stadium on free Skyline night (see, I can make fun of both sides of the river). Six Flags should attempt some sort of settlement if you ask me. Try and clean up the PR nightmare as quickly (and cheaply) as possible.

Consider this: would it be any better if it said: "10-year-old was attacked by teens at waterpark" I don't think the fact the child has special needs should be an issue. If he truly was assaulted in the manner described, it is sad nobody intervened. If he described events that didn't occur that way, however, the situation is changed.
