Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
parkjunkie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What I want to know is whats wrong with B&Ms coasters. I don't know how theyre not intense. Just because you don't get the crap beat out of you doesn't mean theyre not intense. Of the 33 coaster B&M has built in the past 10 years, 17 have been built in the US (this not including the 4 that were moved from from park to park). I have ridden 10 of those 17 and didn't have a single problem with any of them. And if anything, I believe some are of the best coasters out there and are very under rated, and I'm pretty sure many would agree with that. -Banshee -Gatekeeper -X-Flight -Leviathan -Wild Eagle -Intimidator -Manta -Diamondback -Behemoth -Griffon -Tatsu -Goliath -Goliath -Patriot -Sheikra -Hydra -Silver Bullet Can anybody here really tell me whats wrong with any of these coasters? If HW were to get ANYTHING like the 17 listed above, I would be absolutely fine with that, but thats why I'm so excited, because if it is a B&M, which I'm sure it is, it will top all of these. -

You also have to look at it this way. For what Holiday World spent on Voyage and the Thanksgiving section, it was a hell of a deal. Since then, they have added on with all water attractions. Now I know that Mammoth, Wildebeast and PP werent "cheap", but they also werent ultra expensive. So think about it. Since Thansgiving/ Voyage opened, 8 years ago, the park hits 1 million visitors every year, thats not far behind SFSTL, but with less operating days and hours and less staff at lower wages. HW's season passes are much more expensive than SFSTL also. So think about the money being pulled in over the years and the money being saved on not putting in large over priced rides every year.... you have a large sum of money to play with. I would not be surprised if the total bill on all of the 2015 expansion is over $20 million, but at the same time, something tells me HW is getting another "good deal"..... who knows they COULD be spending $20 million and getting $25 to $30 million worth of product, especially if this is a prototype or "new style" coaster. Sometimes companies give a park a deal to "show off" their first of a kind ride to other buyers. -

^^Not saying they cant. I think what people are saying is that HW likes doing something new and fresh. If KI didnt get Banshee, then an invert wouldnt be out of the question. But that KI is somewhat close and put in a monster invert, it doesnt seem HW would almost "copy" the following year... HWs history shows this. HW likes to show off and say "Hey, look we have, cant find anything else quite like it, so come check it out!" -

As it seems that as many people would like to see in an invert, I will doubt this very much for a few reasons. Im sure theres a few people that will argue this nd some that will bite my head off for me saying this. Here's my logic. As mentioned, Banshee is not too far away. Footers don't look to be for an invert. I don't see HW going THIS extreme for their first steel. The other is in this picture.... With how close this is going to be to Hyena Falls, it is almost impossible to be an invert.... and IMO, I don't see a wingrider being set this close either. With HW's history of getting first of a kinds, new designs, and going to new heights, I DO see this being a new B&M product or design, whether it be a new coaster design, new ride feel, or new cars. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

SFSTL: -Batman the Ride: Guest says "why is it attached to rails, Batman didnt use rails, he flew. I'm disappointed and don't want to ride it now" -Mooseburger: Guest asks "Are the burgers at mooseburger were really made of moose?" -Thunder River: Guest exits the ride and says "I didn't hear any Thunder" -Evel Knievel: Guest asked "why do they call it Evel Knievel if there aren't any jumps" -About admission price: Guest is complaining to guest relations about having to pay to get in because "parks" are FREE public places and thats what taxes are for -Tidal Wave: guest standing in front, next to the exit of the ride is debating if they want to ride or not. Guest finally is persuaded by friend to ride and guest says "but if I get wet, I'm gonna be pissed".... needless to say he was really pissed about 15 minutes later! -Guest, season pass holder (and beyond the definition of a redneck) didn't understand why preferred parking was upcharge and says "I shouldn't have to pay this, I have a season pass, do you have any idea how rich you have to be to buy one like me." Attendant tells guest "you don't have to be rich, over 100,000 people buy season passes every year." Guest laughs hysterically yet mad and says "you're a liar and there was no way that SFSTL could sell more than 50 or 60 a year." -

This has always been a wish of mine from B&M, for them to find a way to do a lapbar only floorless, like for a MEGA. That would be incredible if that was the case for HW -

I'll be happy with ANY type of B&M except an Inverted.... and if this is a B&M launch, I think its pretty safe to say it wont be an Invert. Don't get me wrong, I love B&M Inverts, but IMO, an Invert just wouldn't fit at HW, at least not right now. I would love to see a launched Mega though. -

First of all, under Missouri law, you can not carry a gun into an amusement park. I for one APPLAUD SFSTL for having metal detection/ bag check. With as many mass and school shootings that happen, I fully back SFSTL in keeping their Metal Detection, preventing as much as possible the possibility of a shooting. All parks that DO NOT have Metal Detection are just setting themselves up for trouble at some point. With SFSTL having a high percentage of guests from the "rougher" part of town, I NEVER want to see SFSTL get rid of their Metal Detection. A few years back, SFSTL was toyed around with by corporate to get rid of Metal Detection, thank goodness they havent. Over the past years, Ive seen a couple of incidents/ fights/ problems that SFSTL's security team has quickly defused, sometimes in a rather painful yet "just" way for those who not want to comply. Some of these individuals were very aggressive and had no respect for any type of authority, including police. Now think if Metal Detection wasn't there.... those situations COULD have gone in a MUCH different direction. I APPLAUD any and every park that has Metal Detection and I never have any problem waiting in those lines knowing I am much safer. -

Ok, so heres my question. If this IS a launch coaster, is anyone else a tad worried about glitches or a major shutdown due to tech problems? I LOVE B&M, its my favorite coaster company, but quite often, it seems when a coaster company comes out with something theyve never done before, theres glitches and or flaws either in the very beginning or sometime within the first year or two. Im not saying this will be the case here, but it just worries me a little. I'd hate seeing something as big, beautiful and extraordinary as whatever HW is getting just for it to be down half the time. -
What is your next park?

They will NEVER do ANYTHING to change the Screamin Eagle nor should they. The Screamin Eagle was once the tallest, fastest, longest coaster in the world and is one of the last "CLASSICS", not to mention, John Allen's last creation They are too proud of the Screamin Eagle to do a conversion to it, not to mention, people would be furious if they would do so, me being one of them. I'm actually surprised and somewhat disappointed in them doing it to Colossus at SFMM. Colossus is a landmark, an icon, a world known loved classic wood coaster. -

About 1/2 to 2/3 of the parking lot HAS been repaved and restriped in the past few years, at least the spots that needed it the most, like this year they just got done repaving the worst lot, the second one behind HH. They have dropped about 2 million into the parking lot the past few years, but the "dirt" islands do need grass badly. -

Any GOOD one of a kind big coaster would beyond help this park. SFSTL is a very well liked park and is smack dead in the middle of the country, so many people come here. If SFSTL were to ever get a good Intamin, B&M, RMC or anything big like that, a ton more would visit and the park would finally rally be on the map. I cant really think of a park besides SFSTL other than SFFT or Knotts that doesnt have a mega coaster or bigger. -

Everything inside the red outline is Six Flags, Greensfelder has nothing to do with it. The reason youll never see it happen is cost. To run new sewers, new water lines, new utilities and new data lines would be in the 10s of millions, and thats before the cost of rides, buildings, pathways and landscaping. -

I think we have every right to complain. We're not complaining about wanting a $40 million coaster or anything like that, we're just wanting general maintenance dome to the park. The park has over 200+ undeveloped acres. The area out by 5th street and all the grassy area by the I-44 they put up for sale back during the recession, but no one was interested. They then thought about putting the 200 acres on the hill for sale, but they decided against that. Development on the hill will NEVER happen. The only thing I could see is a terrain coaster, but that is such a long shot. For those who dont know where we are talking about, it is directly east of the theme park. SFSTL unused land -

I'm honestly sorry about 5 clones at your park. At Cedar Point, my home park, there are 0 clones! I consider Wicked Twister a clone.... i know the height is a tad different than others, but still a clone IMO and TTD isnt far off but I wont say that it is.... -

Just because its the first one doesnt mean its not a clone. If there are others like it, its a clone. And if Im not mistaken, Chicago has 7 clones. -

This type of maintenance work is what they do every year, and its not even close enough to what GENERAL landscaping should be. This year is actually the worst the park has been the past few years, its starting to look like iit did aout 10 years ago. Grass cutting doesn't count as landscaping, that is general maintenance and there are many areas where the grass doesn't get cut for weeks on end. A TON of painting can be done everyday. 90% of what needs to be painted cant be reached by a guests hands, only their eyes and thats what matters. They have been saying for 5 or 6 years now that an overhaul to the outside of Palace is going to happen, but every offseason comes and goes and nothing gets done. And on top of it, they cut down the trees around Palace a few seasons back, exposing more of the horrid rotting, granted the trees were dying, but at least they looked better than the facade. And on the topic of trees, they keep cutting more down. Back in 2006 when Shapiro came in, he cleaned up. I was at his SFSTL park meeting where he said "TULIPS ARE COMING BACK!, and over the next few seasons, the park started looking better and better, and then when he was booted, the TLC went with it. SFSTL had a large FULL TIME landscaping staff and an enormous part time staff YEAR ROUND back in the day, now they have one full time and about 8 part time, thats unacceptable. SFSTL is my home park, and I love it dearly, but when I walk around there, I feel like I'm in a run down dump that they try spit shining every once in a while. Instead of fixing a problem, they just try covering it up, only worsening the problem They need to drop about 5 million in landscaping and rehabbing the next offseason.
