  1. Hey everyone, My sister who works at Seaworld as an animal care specialist was able to take a few photos of the construction of Journey to Atlantis and I'd thought I'd share (I'm so nice, I know). You can get a good view of the turntable in a couple of the photos.
  2. About TW. I have been on this woody many times in past 10 years and I can honestly say that this time was by far the roughest i've ever experienced it to be. also, Iowa may produce more corn but I'm an official Cornhusker from the University of Nebraska! Woot, go Huskers!
  3. So this last weekend a few friends and I decided to get away from college life in Lincoln, Nebraska and all its sucky midterms and spend a night at Worlds of Fun. We arrived at the park at 7 and were able to stay till closing, which was 1 a.m.!!! This gave us "children of the corn" plenty of time to do all the haunts and roller coasters, and we didn't even murder any parents. The coasters we excellent. Any time I get to ride coasters in the dark makes me a happy camper, and boy did we get to ride in the dark. The park was open till one and we got 3 rides on Mamba and Patriot, 2 rides (why 2 or even 1, I'm not sure) on Timberwolf, and 1 each on Spinning Dragons and Boomerang. Front Row on Patriot was especially pleasing. The Haunts were pretty good. Newly added was the Asylum, which was actually fairly scary and intricate by Worlds of Fun standards. Lore of the Vampire and Camp Gonnagitcha Witchahatchet were good and spooky also. Dominion of Doom, however, was a complete waste of a good walkway shortcut. Anyways, here's some photos. PS: 10 points if you can guess where we ate before arriving at the park. On the Way we passed quite possibly the most exciting shuttle bus on the planet. Its a Full moon and the Children of the Cornyland have arrived to WOF Lately Worlds of Fun has been involved in a small infestation of sorts. Perhaps John Goodman can help them out. YEP, HE'S BAD I became thirsty and decided to try out the Gary Coleman approved drinking fountain. I had to pause to praise Mamba, my one true love of WOF. Disobedience to Mamba is Disobedience to him. The Children Boys of the Corn. The Childrenesses of the Corn Midnight Patriot Immelman Madness. MWAHAHAHA and another And for all you nightime lift hill fetish lovers... Here is kind of a good pic of patriot at night. Sorta makes think of the wrong holiday at the time though... BOOO WOF for reducing patriot to one train operation only 30 minutes before the park closes! GRR. Bring out the pitchfork for the maintenence man in blue! THE BLUE MAN! YES, THE BLUE MAN MALACHI! HE WANTS YOU TOO MALACHI! The scariest costumed character at the park was this odd guy sporting the sleeveless shirt and short shorts in 50 degree weather. He was definitely and OUTLANDER! When I sar this here corn stack my small town nebraska boy side came out like Mark Foley at a paige conference. Spinning Dra...*yawn* I mean Spinnin...*yawn*...oh what was I talking about? Thunderhawk was quite pretty at night. The lighting reminded us of our fire demon in the cornfield back home. The Cornheads group photo
  4. So this past monday my girlfriend and I took a double date road trip to chicago to get away from crappy Nebraska. The trip was short, but sweet and concluded with my first visit to Six Flags Great America. The park was awesome. I could definitely tell this wasn't originally a Six Flags as the park looked very nice and themed, at least in the older parts of the park. All the coasters were awesome, I was not dissapointed with one. And we never had to wait more than 30 minutes. I was especially impressed with the parks wooden coasters. Viper and American Eagle, were smooth, fast and fun! And I even got to ride Deja Vu on my first try, and only waited 25 minutes! HOLLA! Aside from it being uber hot and leaving the park sweating like a prostitute in church, it was an amazing day. And, I earned my 100th coaster on this day, WOOT WOOT! Justine and I had to take a couple picture by Viper as it was friggin SAWEET! Very entertaining ride. Terrible picture of me though... Work it Baby! We were bored while in line for Raging Bull as a lucky guest decided to BARF on one of the trains as we were in line. This was the biggest and best Six Flags I've been too! Was an awesome day. *sighs in reflecton* Mandatory photo of Batman! Awesome forces on this one. OH how I love those forces... Who are the people in this bus? I feel sorry for them... Navy Pier Ferris Wheel in Chicago. If Superman were just a little more buff we could pass as twins! *uber sarcasm* Back Spike Nut Crusher: The Ride. Seriously, is that back spike hold necessary!?!? Iron Wolf was rough, but fun. And twisty, and reddish...and I'll stop now Raging Bull Was special for me! Guess who earned coaster #100 with Raging Bull...YES! ME! WOOT! Mandotry Demon Loop photo, CHECK! Don't be jealous that I got my Deja Vu credit on my first try! Don't be a hatin'. Yay Deja Vu! I was pretty proud of this photo... Justine is ragin' along with the coaster in this photo. Unfortuenately she's not from Louisianna, but if she were, this photo would be uber awesome as there would be 2! ragin' cajuns!! OMG...too bad though. BOO! It should be a law that trucks should never be allowed to pass trucks!
  5. Hey Everyone, I don't think this has been posted yet... but on Monday May 29 The National Geographic Channel is airing a bunch of new (i think) coaster shows. From the commercials I saw a bunch of cool footage of newer coasters and even and interesting simulation of what looked like an intamin coaster diving down the side of a skyscraper. 8P SuperCoasters SuperCoasters [TV-G] Also airs: Tuesday, May 30 Saturday, June 3 10P SuperCoasters SuperCoasters [TV-G] Also airs: Saturday, June 3 Sunday, June 4 12A SuperCoasters SuperCoasters [TV-G] Also airs: Saturday, June 3 Sunday, June 4 2A Ultimate... 6. I've been to playcenter in Sao Paulo, Brazil 2 years ago. It was nice but i'm a little ticked that they added so much this year! But it was still neat!
  7. The Lincoln or Omaha, Nebraska area!! Then I won't have to drive 7 hours to ride the nearest roller coaster.
  8. Patriot was by no means forceless... The bottom of the first drop and loop did pull some good G's. Also, the last turnaround after the corkscrew pulled very good G's. But yeah, I must say the forces weren't amazing when compared to Raptor and Montu.
  9. Hey everyone. Last Saturday I decided to take a couple of my friends down from Lincoln Nebraska to Kansas City to get away from college for a day. We left at 9:30am, got there at 1:00 and stayed till 7:00. The weather was about as nice as you could ask for being 85 and sunny. This also meant the park was fairly busy for an April weekend but still not too bad. We decided to save the Patriot for later and headed straight for the Mamba. I would still say this is the best coaster in the park. I've never been on Steel Force, but I definitely think this was Morgan's best hypercoaster. After Mamba, we headed to Timber Wolf which was...well...Timber Wolf. Now I'm a bit of a masochist and like rough rides, but OOF! This ride was much more painful than when I rode last fall. In the words of Elvis, after T-Wolf, "I'm all shook up." Finally we headed over to, duh duh duh, Patriot. Patriot was ok, not the best invert I've ever been on, but still a great ride. If you can manage to stand in line for 40 minutes listening to blaring orchestral patriotic music, the ride was good. It definitely makes up for the loss of the Orient Express, but is not as good as the Mamba. This was the least intense invert I've ever been on, but I have only been on Batman Clones, Montu, and Raptor, so my opinion may have been a little tainted by this. I would say Patriot has the best drop of any invert i've been on and the inline twist was very quick. It also had the best airtime of any inverted coaster I've been on. After the Patriot we went on Spinning Dragons. I was not too excited about this, but since we had 3 people in our group, the car was unbalanced and spun more than I thought possible, providing an awesome ride! After that we hit up the other rides, including the water rides since it was actually HOT! The Top Spin even had the water jets on, which was a first for me. Anyway, it was a great day and I was definitely glad I was able to get away from college and not think about my finals that are to come next week. Unfortunately my friend forgot their digital camera, so I was stuck with a crappy disposible, so the pictures are not fantastic or zoomed in at all. Finally, I leave you with two more of Patriot. Once my ass dried I used it to "put out the vibe." Since we were already wet, we decided to ride our first top spin with water jets. Which led to to drenched asses. we (stupidly) stood on Monsoon's bridge... Still one of S&S's better towers... Mamba from the Detonator The back of Patriot from the station. A stunning photo of Patriot set with flowers....blah blah artsy blah
  10. Here are a couple newer ones of me and my tatoo.
  11. I like to scream, even though since I'm a guy, its much more of a yell. Its just fun to let it all out!! It adds to the ride like so many of you have said. But I do agree it can be annoying if some piece of crap kid screams ultra high pitched the entire time just to be stupid.
  12. I get to go to Italy in June!! WOOHOO and I get to go to one park, I haven't decided if I'll go to Mirabilandia or Gardaland though. Also I hope to check out Worlds of Fun some weekend this spring to try out Patriot.
  13. Hey everybody thanks for taking the poll and posting comments. You're all helping me out a lot! ^also, I had to be specific about my three options for theassignment. Plus, the small steel launched coaster will loop, as the ride would be based on Kanonen.
  14. He everybody. For a college english class I must write a recommendation report in which I must chose and explain the best of 3 options based on three criteria. Naturally, being the coaster nerd I am, I chose coasters to be my topic. The 3 options are a Compact Wood Twister, Small Rocket-Luanched Coaster, and and SLC. I mostly picked an SLC because its so easy to argue against! One of my criterion for my recommendation is customer satisfaction. In order to research this criterion I am posting a poll on this site of coaster "experts". Please do the poll and if you have time, explain why you chose what you did. Even though I know what most of you will say (*cough* vekoma sucks *cough*) please explain your choice based on what you like in rides and satisfaction of rides in as professional of a manner as possible. Thanks for all your help. -ferg
  15. I hate to fuel the fire but.... I would put Cedar Point at #1. The atmosphere and cleanliness is better. Plus it seems that at any one time, Cedar Point always has more roller coasters OPERATING than Magic Mountain.
  16. Here a couple of my favorite on rides... Here's me and my friends on Magnum. I was a little excited... Here's one of me and my sister contracting rabies on Sea World San Antonio's kiddy coaster.
  17. Personally I love traditional and "different" style parks with good scenery. I would love to go to: Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Indiana Beach.
  18. "Having a Bad Day" by Blue Flannel but I assure you I'm not.....yet anyway
  19. Wood: Screamin' Eagle @ Six Flags St. Louis Steel: Gemini @ Cedar Point I also love Coaster @ Joyland and Blue Streak too!
  20. Yeah, I agree about the straight drop on Wildfire. This was the first one on a B&M I'd been on too. I was very surprised by how steep it was and the airtime it packed.
  21. OK, this is my first trip report on this site so be gentle with your comments! This was the last road trip of my summer & my two best friends & I decided to go for the first time to Branson for some Silver Dollar and Celebration City goodness. We left on Friday July 29 & arrived 10 hours later to our campground. Being poor college kids we decided to stay in a tent for the weekend, which turned out great. Total cost of camping for 3 days: $27.82!!! The next day we went to the two Branson parks. One thing I learned on this trip, DON'T GO TO BRANSON ON A SUMMER WEEKEND! It took us about 45 minutes and hour to drive the 4 miles to Silver Dollar City and it was PACKED. You could tell the park was filled above average. The entire day the crowd of people was shoulder to shoulder. We first did Wildfire which had only a 15 minute wait. This ride was very good. You seem to hang upside down on the inversions more than other B&Ms and the view was awesome. It also gave me my first glimpse of what was yet to come on the right. Powder Keg! The line for Powder Keg was unfortunately very long. It extended down the hill from the regular building queue and ran along the main path where the parade goes. It was about and hour wait, but well worth it! Powder Keg had the best airtime of any coaster I have ever been on! I couldn't believe it. I don't think my butt was touching the seat the entire time we went over the second hill. It was AWESOME! Next we did Fire in the Hole. What a fun ride. I understand why Robb and Elissa like it so much! Also, I seemed to be the only one on the train who got SOAKED. At the splashdown finale I got a quick jet of water aimed right at my face! Then we ate some good ole homestyle barbecue that was delicious. We even got to dine next to family wearing matching camouflage t-shirts. Next we rode ThuNderaTion backwards. This ride surprised me! It was a very good ride and one of the better Arrow mine trains. Next we walked through Grandpa's Mansion, a crooked house which made on my friends very nauseous. I rode powder Keg once more, rode the river rapids which had an insanely wait and then headed to Celebration City. I loved Celebration City. It was much more relaxed and less crowded then Silver Dollar. The mid 1900's theme throughout the park was also very consistent and inviting. None of the rides had more than a 15 minute wait. First did Thunderbolt, my first windstorm, a little rough but not two bad, and then I rode Ozark Wildcat! I was SHOCKED. This woodie instantly jumped to my #1 wood coaster. It had great turns and drops that delivered a lot more airtime than you would think. The ride never seemed to slow down as it twisted its way through. One of my favorite parts was two quick ground level bunny hops under the lift before you turn back toward the station. Later we came back and I had the pleasure of riding it again only this time in darkness as the sun had already set. Great Ride!! Then we did the Miler Jack Rabbit and watched the laser/fireworks show. I know most of you reading this aren’t into shows but this was the best laser/fireworks show I have ever seen. I highly recommend you see it. Overall the two parks were great. They put any Six Flags or Cedar Fair park to shame with their consistent themeing, cleanliness, food, ride quality and overall atmosphere. Even though my visit was hampered a little bit by the insane amount of people I was definitely pleased and will definitely go back in the future. Here are some pictures. I am sorry the quality is TERRIBLE. This camera broke at CC though so I guess I'll have to get a newer better one in the future.(oh darn!!) My nauseous friend after she ate barbecue and immediately went of T.N.T and walked through the crooked house. You might be a redneck if your family wears matching camo t-shirts to an amusement park. We had the pleasure of dining by this family Buckets the dog and the fire cheif at Fire in the Hole. Apparently you can buy the dog for a cheap price! The powder keg launch area. um..yeah...it launches Yay Wildfire. Fun Ride The first night we took a dam picture at Table Rock Dam We also drove by Worlds of Scum along to way. We drove on and ate at a small town park where a group of creepy kids cam and stared at us. On the way we had to stop and a take a picture of a town that is actally smaller than our own!
  22. YAY!! I'm from right smack dab in the middle of Nebraska and go to college in Lincoln. I'm about to faint from the fact that Omaha is actually building a roller coaster AND Worlds of Fun is actually getting a new FULL SIZE roller coaster for next year. I must say it will be nice to not have to drive 6 hours to ride the nearest roller coaster!
  23. Any coaster at night is awesome. But I would have to agree that Millenium Force is awe-inspiring at night, especially with its awesome lighting.......as long as you don't ride in the front car and get plastered by bugs!
  24. Yay! Here are my pictures! This is supposed to make you say "AAAAWWWW" This is my best friends and I (i'm the dude) on Magnum, during my high school graduation trip to CP!
  25. Vekomas are fine! After growing up living 5 hours away from the nearest SMALL amusement park and 10 hours from the nearest major park I have learned that there is no roller coaster I won't ride. I would much rather live next to a park with an SLC and a boomerang than not live close to any park at all. So I will always ride any rollercoaster even if it is a vekoma. AND I LIKE IT ROUGH BABY, YEAH!!
