  1. sorry computer crashed before I finished that report. And out of place at this little fair this ride looked scary There's the credit. this small fair was on the way back to Dubai It was closed as well log flume but no coaster credit. Al Jazeera Park in the centre of sharjah
  2. OK, here's the story. Sharjah is the next Emirate to Dubai. Its only about 30m KMs away but can take up to 2 hours depending on the traffic. Sharjah is much more Islamic than Dubai, you cant drink alcohol there and they have decency laws which mean you have to wear long trousers and sleeves and men and women can not be alone together unless they are family. However Sharjah is home to some great malls and FEC`s with a few coasters as well. I will cover these in a later update. Anyway needed to go to Sharjah to order a bed that was out of stock in Dubai. So I left Dubai earlier in search of the newly opened Qabat Al Qasba. The Qanat Al Qasba is a newly opened entertainment area that host a circus, lots of restaurants and the Eye Of The Emirates, a Big Wheel similar to the London eye. According to the website the Eye Of The Emirates is a 60-meter-high observatory wheel that is tallest of its kind in the Middle East, Africa, and West & Central Asia. I had to see this. I knew it would be closed because it is the month of Ramadan and I was going during the day. Anyway take a look at the pics to see what I found. But not a patch on the London Eye. I would say it is a quite nice Ferris Wheel But up close it is a Lot smaller than the London Eye It looks quite big in this photo Here was my first glimpse of the Eye. And what a lovely place Sharjah is, NOT! Leaving Dubai at 8.30 AM meant I was in sharjah in 20 Mins. This is Not the Eye of the Emirates. This s in our local park.
  3. I worked that out all by myself. Ok, with a little help from Duane over at RCDB. Glad you like the pics.
  4. OK, I know no one really cares about this, except me. But Wonderland Dubai have added two new rides i an effort to compete with the new theme parks being built. They have erected this ride on what was a temporary go kart track. Here is some of the theming that has to be put on the ride. I believe this one used to be at Knots Berry Farm. is it called a rotoshake? The other new ride, which I have not yet seen testing. This replaced the infamous Ring Of Fire The new Disko was testing today
  5. I live in Dubai and had to go to Qatar on business for a few days so couldnt resist taking a side trip to see the coaster.
  6. Just found these photos from a trip to Qatar in June. Nevermind, next time. And a missed credit So I had to settle with photos fom outside. Unfortunatly it was ladies day. They even have a Vekoma Boomerang! Aladdins Kingom is a fair sized theme park ...and an indoor snow hill! a few kiddie rides... With a strange go cart track in the middle It was a fairly standard arcade. can you name the coaster? They also have a FEC called Xtreme World For obvious reasons, I never found out what Funtown was. Doha City Centre has an ice rink in the middle
  7. Robb, I think you should suggest to them that they come and do a sow on Dubai next.
  8. Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril http://www.rcdb.com/ig957.htm back in the days when it ran forwards. I qued for over two hours for the ride and as I exited the ride op called be back as there was one spare seat so I got a second go.
  9. That was, genuinely the busiest we have seen the park. Basically its quite a way out and the main reason people go there is that there is an illegal booze shop next door. This Google spell check is fantastic. The people running across the roads are the labourers her in Dubai. In the city they have had to put fences up in the middle of the roads to stop people doing it.
  10. part 3 and headed back home to Dubai At closing time we joined the crowds leaving. This was the only shop that was open
  11. Now we have made it lets have a look at the rides. but it was broken They did have a parachute simulator. as has the video zone The shopping and restaurant area has seen better days. and the hippos back outside you can see the broken slide and the old kids play area. and a slide that has never worked. an inoor jacuzzi This erupting volcano houses.... This inconspicuous hut actually contains a bar upstairs. Hey, look, theres some people here now! Then get flushed out the bottom, where it takes two life guards to drag you to the surface. spin around a bit. you shoot down a tube nto the bowl. ....And a deadly, toilet bowl ride A family raft ride...... This area used to stage concerts, but now has two new rides. The black hole is partially buried. quite a good overview of the park And quite long The twisted sister ride is very fast and very dark a better shot of the wave pool The new kids play area one of the ride structures It was packed today. this is the busiest we have ever seen it. They used to claim to have the largest wave pool in the world.
  12. Heres some pics of the 3rd water park in Dubai, This one is actually about 45 minutes up the coast from Dubai. FOr some reason they make you wear Wrist Bands. There is only one way in and ot and once you leave you cant come back in. Made it nearly there now. And head off through the desert to reach the coast road. After you feel like you have gone too far you finally reach the turn off. Its very common in Dubai to find groups of men running across motorways. It used to take 2 hours t get to Dreamland, but the opening of the new motorway has cut it down to arounf 45 minutes. after an hour of sweaty struggling with the spare we were on our way The day started with a puncture before we had even set out.
  13. Heres a couple of credits I had to mention. http://www.rcdb.com/ig2864.htm easily the most painful coaster I have everr been on. But it WAS a credit. http://www.rcdb.com/ig2179.htm This is my home park, until Dubailand opens. http://www.rcdb.com/ig2178.htm http://www.rcdb.com/ig2177.htm This is powered so is it a credit?
  14. Heres my too dogs, Hope and JarJar. They are both wearing their new christmas t shirts
  15. The size is going to be larger than the total area of Disney property in Florida!! When finished it will Double the size of Dubai
  16. Flacon City is the other theme park that was announced yesterday. Here are some model pics. I have no idea what Western City Is. They also hadone of the dinasours there from the Restles Planetvb theme park. the Volcano coaster seems to be the nost exciting Not quite sure what this is supposed to be
  17. Here are some pics of the Model for Aqua Dunya, the latest announced theme park being built in Dubailand. They rekion this one will be ready by 2008. and water rides The model show several coasters. Aqua Dunya, Dunya is world in Arabic, Aqua is Aqua in English This is an overview of the Aqua Dunya Model
  18. woo hoo, thats great thanks
  19. As it is increasingly looking like i will not be able to meet up with you on the UK trip next year but will be in uk 2 months later, I am thinking of doing a mini tour europe as I have done UK parks lots. My question is will you be doing a europe planning report like you did for Japan? I followed your repot t the letter most days in japan and hardly ever got lost.
  20. part 2 Goodbye, closed sea paradise, lets see what cosomo world has in store some pics of a closed blue fall It was closed here is their other coaster In the middle of a rapids ride. These dolphins live... even the booze cafe was closed. the dolphin area was packed compared to the rest of the park. do people really try and take pets on roler coasters? Too bad it was closed The surf coaster looked really impressive
  21. I am finally bringing this topic back from the dead. Today was my, rather interesting, trip to Yokohama. First up is sea paradise. I was to see the closed sign a lot today walking over this bridge to the park I could hardly stand up in the wind. As with most places in Japan, its quite a long walk from the station to the park I knew something was wrong when the roof of the station was shaking with the wind So does the surf coaster Blue Fall looks very impressive as you aproach\ once you leave the normal train and board the elevated thing, you can se sa paradise.
  22. I think the Tokyo Disney website has a list of rehabs an closures. I would say the Japan would probably be busier and with longer waits, therefore less suitable for a 5 year old. Also, form what I remember of Paris, its been 12 years since I`ve been, there were more child friendly rides and play areas at Disney. Letme know if you need any more help.
  23. wish I had seen your post in April when I went. never mind. had a great time anyway
  24. Hi Pat I wa born there in 73 and left in 86 so dont remember it too well. I can remember it could be quite rough back then. we used to live next to the viaduct.
