Should also add that the team being Dark Harbor now includes Jon Cooke of Knott's fame, so I would expect big things from this event! -
Coasters having expiration dates?
Jew replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the reality is that the park always wanted something more family friendly in that spot and then the "end of life" rumor was born that somehow grew into fact. Though going from 54" to 48" isn't that much better since the magic number for "family friendly" is in the 36"-42" range. -
Margaritaville Resort Orlando - Now Open!
Jew replied to ragerunner1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like a good modern water park with an odd theme for being within a Margaritaville area. The points thing is a brilliant want to drive people to stay longer. -
HHN VIP is absolutely worth it if it will be your only visit. Guide to walk you right up to each house. From what I have seen, it is doable to get all the houses in without even express if you are there for stay & scream to get a jump start on a few hours AND stay all night, but that middle of the night period is just packed everywhere.

Take CGA out of the analysis then. It still applies to Kings Island and Cedar Point. The last 2 coaster additions did little to spike attendance compared to what Levaithan did for Wonderland. Aa far as Cedar Point goes, Gatekeeper and Valravn had a bigger spike in attendance then Steel Vengeance did. I am getting these numbers from TEA. The whole point of this thread was asking why that happens? Did you miss the part where I said Canada's Wonderland is the only major theme park in the Toronto Metropolitan area? Cleveland and Cincinnati combined don't have the population of Toronto. I didn't miss that part cause size of population has nothing to do with a new coaster giving an increase in attendance. Look at Cedar Point, they saw a bigger increase in attendance with Gatekeeper and Valravn then they did with Steel Vengeance. None of that has to do with size of population. Ei If you go by TEA Kings Island didn't see much increase in attendance with their last 2 coasters added. Again nothing to do with size of population. Market size and your positioning in that market absolutely play a role in attendance. Having a market of 6 million people to yourself certainly doesn’t hurt a park....especially when your initial comparison was to CGA, a smaller metropolitan area with more competition. CGA sees direct competition from SFDK and SCBB plus Disney and universal marketing to the area to get people to road trip down to so cal. If you can’t understand this, you’re never going to find an answer to your question you’ll be satisfied with. Cedar point is more of a Midwest vacation destination, so it makes perfect sense that there would be larger increases in attendance when major additions are spread further apart (gatekeeper was first major coaster since maverick; valvran 3 years later) than the 2 year gap between valvran and steel vengeance. The diehards will come back. The family planning their one major vacation might not have the time and money to visit every 1-2 years. I’ll Also say this again: there is no accurate way to answer your question because every market and park is unique. It isn’t as simple as new ride=huge boost in attendance. The market your in, the competition you face, the marketing you do, the promotions and pricing you offer, the operating schedule you have, and so on are all variables that play an impact.

The instructions for "boarding passes" when the land fills to capacity will tell you what entrance to enter at. I can't imagine they will go away from alternating the entrances to keep people from all crowding around one area waiting for their time. I suspect they'll have cast members at all three entrances counting the amount of people entering/exiting until it's at capacity. They would likely have put that information out already as part of "know before you go" if they wanted to limit it to certain entrances.

I hate questions like these, because there are SO MANY variables involved. There's no way to directly answer it. Marketing, competition, local major events, local competition for entertainment dollars, pricing, ticket options, etc. ALL factor into how a park will do regardless of whether there is a new ride or not.

I can't confirm anything, but I was struck (I visited yesterday) by the fact that the ticket booths were all seemingly unmanned given the crowds—a tacit confirmation that one-day tickets are kind of an anachronism now, at least at Six Flags' parks. Not one day tickets...just walk up sales. There's this thing called the internet that has made purchasing tickets for anything much easier.

Coasters having expiration dates?
Jew replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are so many variables involved in answering this. Simple answer: everything does have a shelf life. After so many cycles, so many welds, repairs, etc. eventually it will fail. No ride is designed with an “expiration date”, but they will “expire” on their own at some point where the cost of repair isn’t worth it to a park -
Completely disagree. I cannot be the only one who always thought that Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels was completely overrated, difficult to navigate, slides were totally "meh", and overall the park was a pain the ass to visit, right? And trust me, I've tried SEVERAL TIMES going to that park with an open mindset and I've always walked away going "I really don't get it." IMO, calling it the Knoebels of water parks is a huge insult to Knoebels. Ah, I was wondering why this was the only forum where I’ve seen negative comments about Schlitterbahn. Anyway. Comparing Knoebels to Schlitterbahn isn’t outlandish at all. In fact, I can’t think of a better comparison. Both parks are so incredibly original. They also have that anti corporate feel as well. I understand it might not be for you (or your followers) but it is widely considered to be the best water park. However I do agree with you on the layout of the park. There is certainly an opportunity there. My biggest fear is that Cedar Fair will take out some of these original attractions for some of their cookie cutter slide complexes. Being original doesn't make it great. I only went there once as part of the TPR Texas Trip, and outside of of the then still novel master blaster concept & the torrent river...the rest of the park was so bland and outdated. And taking a bus between sections?

That’s a huge problem. A major disconnect between the park and FD. I’m guessing the park doesn’t know what shelter in place means. It's easy to play armchair QB at this point, but unfortunately we don't know the exact timeline. Perhaps the situation changed from the time they initially called the park. The fire appears to have started north of the park and burned its way towards Magic Mountain parkway, so it's reasonable to assume the initial plan was to close the park for smoke and traffic issues BEFORE it burned towards the entrance road. My outside observation is the one thing SFMM should have done better is they should have had more team members in the parking lot providing the most up to date information.
