Yes, agreed, I drive 5 hours to get the point, so a 10-15 minute trip to a good hotel is definitively worth it to me and my family. there are really good hotels there by Milan Rd. and rte. 2. Hampton Inn has been a go to for us and If you don't mind a 15- 20 minute commute, there is a really good Radisson Inn and suites and another even better Hampton Inn right by Milan and The turnpike. All in the same price range. -

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
john10693 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Every year I go to wonderland and I am only really disappointed about the available schwag. This year I was determined to get a hat or shirt and there is just not much to choose from. I guess it's just not Wonderlands thing. Leviathan does have a shop at exit but it is not so great (such a great logo and such a poor selection), Yukon's shop had even fewer available choices (new coaster, I get it, but still). As for enhanced licence, easy process, show licence, scan licence, answer a couple questions , and enjoy Canada. Have fun, merchandise aside, this is a great park and FL+ is the best here for the top rides. as a CP regular this place is a walk on with it in comparison. -

What is your next park?
john10693 replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My annual Canada's Wonderland day on Tuesday. Last year, when entering the park the woman checking my pass said she needed to see my season pass or a ticket after I handed her my Platinum pass. I just find it amusing that outside of Cedar Point I get looked at funny when presenting my platinum pass (It also happened at kings Island last year at early entry and at Dorney the year before). -

Yes, do this. You select a all day pin and it's pretty easy to move around. I also travel with four and we move to a area as a group but do different things and the girls can carry around all their crap with them and have a place nearby to store said crap. the bunnies near SV, Valravn, Rougarou and Gatekeeper are right at the ride. A little travel for Maverick and Raptor and TTD's bunnies are at the entrance only. They are also good so as not to waste a beer you can't chug before a short ride. Traveling bunnies are a must for me and well worth the 10 bucks IMO. -

That was the best ride day ever at CP (6/3/2017) in forever. My family and I drove 5 hours in the pouring rain for our 4 day annual spring trip and arrived about 2:30 thinking it was going be a bust because of a tropical storm warning . Rain stopped right as we arrived. We thought the park was closed for some reason as there were only 2 rows of parking filled. In fact, every ride was open and every ride was fully staffed running 3 trains on everything. Dragster had to wait for riders to operate all 3 times we rode it. By 6:30 my group was so tired of walking to and directly onto every ride that the adults decided to go to surf lounge and abuse the best ride in the park. The rides that night after Surf Lounge were awesome with a super fine mist amplifying the night rides (Valravn at night with that super fine mist, Oh my, and Millennium force OMG) and no lines, full staff and all trains (gotta love CP for that alone when its slow). Surf bar was the star attraction that evening as there were no lines, a good and friendly crowd and time to spare ( Oh and adult beverages and great service). -
There was no exaggeration of operations on opening day by the way, By anyone who posted. No one posting here is walking into the park opening day for the for first time and no one will ever confuse DL for WDW ever. It was just was a bad opening day, that's all. I believe most regulars know things will improve and they have already in just the first week. I am most happy for a couple rides on a couple of good coasters after a long off season, I am just very disappointed that there seemed to be no effort by the park opening day to encourage hope.

woo hoo new sign. Quick opening day trip report. Got there about 10:45 and first 3 rows of parking are now for + members. Waited in line a good 1/2 hour to get into park (member line was longer). Went straight to ride of steel for obligatory front row first ride of season. ROS promptly opened at 11:00 and at 5 trains back we were on at 11:45 (stupid slow). The ride however was especially smoother than usual, although a little slow. We then went to check out Kale and Carrots (Tantrum) but no luck. In fact only coasters open were the effing Vecoma's and the so called coaster Rolling Thunder. Viper started to run a little later but line was a full station wait and then it eventually went down so no luck there either. Time to take a walk around and take some pictures. Motocoaster was down all day as well as Predator. At one point, the only coasters running were the effing Vekoma's. Even ROS was down due to a very very light mist. after 3PM, Kale and carrots was open so we braved the 30 minute line for 30 seconds of happiness. The Tantrum crew is the best one in the park by far and gives me a slight hope for the future (But not really) . Eventually got on Viper and then got 2 back car rides on ROS. ops got a little better as the day went on but with 20 minute waits with half empty que's it was still a kinda disapointing opening day. I do not expect a lot on opening day but I was not expecting this little. Now on to some pictures. first train of the day. SBNO (Thank God) new lumber for Predator (Hopefully for kindling.) one of the last operating enterprise rides . The kid shows how we all feel. newly available shwag. There are people who ride this because they want to I've been told. glad I am not a member. Blast off. Or not. 2 sets of new wheels on boomerang. oh no you don't. You can't trick me by putting new shiny lumber on this POS. Still off limits. There she is. Ms. Cleo says "I see you for spare parts only". Finally, something positive. If they keep removing pieces, nobody will even know it existed. Green train is my favorite. Moose on the Loose was running one train ops. Nothing in a kids area should ever be named this. Finally bliss. Southern tier IPA. Well, thats a wrap. Hopefully things will improve. Chhers.

Help with Canadian coaster trip.

Oh and there is good lodging around the Metropolitan Center near Wonderland, I was able to find rooms around your price, Montreal (downtown) also. New York and PA even cheaper. -
Help with Canadian coaster trip.
john10693 replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I’ve done a trip that worked well that is similar. Take the Bluewater bridge and the 402-401 route and go to Wonderland first. Walk around Wonderland a bit that evening to get a feel. Saturday, fast pass it if you can and enjoy the day (fast pass there on Saturday’s in my experiences are more like kings Island on a Friday for waits and nothing like Cedar Point ever.) Sunday fast pass lines are even better and there is a limited early entry. If you decide to go to Montreal, take the 401 all day there and skip La Ronde to instead just enjoy the city itself. It’ a wonderful city, don’t waste it on the park, you won’t regret that decision. Then head back to the states 0n 91 to Great Escape. Then if you need to do Seabreeze it will be only an hour out of your day for travel and you can do everything in less than two hours max if you want. Darien Lake is a 1:10 minute drive from there. You can easily spend the day at Darien Lake with enough to do and unless Marineland and Niagra Falls is on your bucket list, just screw it and just go to Waldameer for ravine flyer II and a better park IMO. This route only costs 2 border crossings (Unless you go to Marineland and need to see Niagra Falls). From Waldameer Cedar point is about 2 ½ hours. -

There are four entrances. Main entrance, boardwalk, marina and hotel/water park entrance. Hotel entrance is closest to TTD, Gemini, Steel Vengeance and Maverick. You may use any entrance. That being said, even with early entry at the hotel entrance, there will be a good line for Steel Vengeance at opening unless you join the running of the bulls at rope drop and can run fast for half a mile. When the water park is open the park does not allow access to the back lot until 1/2 hour after the early entrance posted time (that was the case last year). You can however park in the front lot and walk the board walk past the hotel to the rear entrance for early entry (This is a nice walk along the beach). That takes about 15 minutes so plan accordingly. -

There are some great, affordable and safe not so far away hotels in the Sandusky area. To be fair, not so far away to me means within a 15 minute commute. All of these hotels that I recommend I have actually stayed at. Most are on Milan Dr. south of OH-2 and are fantastic, (Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn and Best Western) and if you add 7-9 more minutes and drive down Milan Dr. (past Kalahari resort near the turnpike) there are a few more really clean affordable and safe hotels (the country inn & suites is A+A+ as is that Hampton Inn behind it). The commute is great if you use Bogart road behind the Hampton Inn by OH-2 then left on Galloway road then left onto Perkins, right on Remington Ave. then left on Cleveland Rd. W. to Cedar point Drive. It sounds much much harder than it is and most importantly, bypasses the Milan road commercial strip, which can take forever to drive on due to so many traffic lights. it's the best way. That being said, check to be sure there are no major conferences at Kalahari on the dates you are going as that can be a mess with hotels and travel there. Nearer the park, Express hotel is good for the price, although really no amenities other than early entry if you are not a pass holder (It also feels safe there.). For myself and family, the commute is easily outweighed by a really clean, safe and modern room. I feel that the commute is equal to my daily drive to work and that is more than acceptable. The price range on all of these are similar and are much much less than breakers and on site properties, with much better amenities. -
^ Agreed, so many winter fest events in Rochester also. For me a 45 minute drive that I would not do if weather were even a little tricky to drive in. If the weather is fine , being a season pass holder, then maybe once to check it out. Other than that there is more than plenty of winter stuff to do in western NY without having to travel far. If however, they were to say run Ride of Steel, I would probably force myself to go more just to get my coaster fix in.
