Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Any ideas on the name or theming of the RMC? Hopefully they won't pull a Six Flags and go back to terribly uninspiring names (Twisted Colossus, really?). -

Dominator is the most intense (and longest), Bizzaro is the best themed, and Krypton Coaster has the best scenery. I wish Dominator had a zero g-roll but it's still the best floorless because of all the overbanks it has. You actually get some airtime on it. I do want to see a wingrider one day to provide a more relaxed B&M expwrience. -

Don't forget the best floorless. Seriously a great lineup. Can't wait to get back, it killed me to pass it twice in the past week and not go in. Yup. No other floorless can match Dominator's intensity I'm still stunned how Kings Dominion got Geauga Lake's best coaster. I mean the other parks (while still receiving good rides-ooh wait nevermind Michigan's Adventure) got clones and we got an almost world class ride. -

Honestly I think this could be the first conversion where the new one is actually longer than the old one. Usually it's the other way around. I mean wow what a top 3: A giga, RMC, and launched invert. -

1. I don't think you're in the minority. Most enthusiasts like him. It's just a few snobs that don't like a 19 year old giving his analysis. 2. I mean Kings Dominion has added an addition every year save for 2011. Maybe not two things per but this is my modification of Taylor's plan: 2018: RMC Hurler, WinterFest, upgrade of that back section 2019: Front gate update 2020: Mass Effect, Slingshot 2021: Soak City Expansion (yes maybe even a slide coaster). 2022: Disk-o 2023: B&M wing rider (having doubts about a flyer). -

So Coaster Studios released another five year plan for Kings Dominion: I think the B&M would probably come in 2023 but otherwise this is a very logical plan for the park take gives love to all audiences. -
Wtf. No it would not be a fitting replacement for a full circuit inverting coaster. Full Circuit>Shuttle. Never will an intamin impulse be better than a premier spaghetti bowl. The Premier spaghetti bowl isn't that great unless it's in the dark like Flight of Fear. Not only is the Intamin launch much better but you get a real drop. Yeah, spaghetti bowls are good, but definitely prefer the impulse coasters I've been on. Also, Six Flags America doesn't even have a shuttle coaster, so it would fill another important spot in their lineup while still having a launched coaster. I didn't bother responding right away because the full circuit>shuttle comment just broke my brain. Yeah, let's replace all the impulse coasters with kiddie coasters and Pinfari loopers! They can even bring back the Two Face theme.

I don't get some (emphasis on some) of the hate for KD fanboys. Sure a (*ahem) population go overboard but at least they aren't complaining about a brand new coaster because of the lack of drop track. -

They were working this past Tuesday and yesterday. There are now pink survey flags on the outer edge of the service road where the first turn after the drop used to be. Why are they transforming Hurler then instead of building a ground up RMC? It seems like they are vastly expanding the layout. Please don't do this, you are getting an RMC. It is going to be great either way. I'm not complaining. I'm just surprised at how much they are removing. Usually the entire (or vast majority) of the structure is kept in conversions. Really the only RMC I can complain about is The Joker. Not because of the ride itself, but because of the coaster choice. They should have gone with the SFA Roar instead of the SFDK one. Not only was the west coast Roar fully functional and not rough, but the conversion took away the park's only family-friendly coaster. With KD they have plenty of coasters suitable for families outside of Hurler. -

Hurler needed it...it was cheaper...tax breaks for using existing structures...environmentally more friendly (less trees likely removed)... maybe they just felt like it... Is having a part of the structure already built THAT much more cost effective? I mean so much of it was already removed to the point of several sticks of wood. -

I hope they send it to Kings Dominion in 2019. Can never have enough flat rides. -

So this is what I really don't understand about BGW and their coasters: Everyone is saying this is a great "family" coaster, except with a 46" height restriction, it's starting to get outside of the "family coaster" category. If Test Track, which goes 65mph, Tower of Terror, which has insane airtime, and Big Thunder Mountain, which actually has a decent amount of airtime for what it does, can all be 40" at Magic Kingdom, explain to me why a ride like InvadR is 46"? There is no explanation, IMO, only poor excuses. This will always frustrate me with parks that open rides that are great for one demographic but carry a height restriction for another. BGW is, IMO, one of the most unbalanced major parks in the country (maybe even the world) when it comes to height restrictions. It promotes itself as a "family" park, yet it doesn't have any coasters with a height restriction lower than 46" outside of the kiddie area, and most of them are between 52-54" Of course the only other park that immediately comes to mind that is even more unbalanced is SeaWorld Orlando. Explain to me why a park that REALLY caters to smaller kids has three giant roller coasters with a 54" height restriction that most kids that go to that park can't even ride. (Not even Kristen who is ten years old now is tall enough to ride any of SeaWorld's coasters!) So perhaps this is a higher-level corporate issue where they just don't value the importance of having a true "family" ride at their parks? This coaster SHOULD have been their 42" ride that filled that gap which was created when Big Bad Wolf was taken down. One can only hope they'll realize this and try to do something to modify it. *sigh* What's wrong with a less intense experience for once? We already have several high level coasters at BGW. Adults are enjoying the ride regardless so I don't see how this is an issue.

I rode Hurler, Hypersonic (once), and Shockwave. Hypersonic had a nice launch and vertical drop but otherwise it was a subpar coaster and was an eyesore. Shockwave was surprisingly intense (especially with its circular loop) but oh my god was everything after the loop a torture device. Hurler was plain garbage. -

Anyone think they will use a new station for this? Because the current Hurler one is one of the biggest eyesores in history. -

You mean l----o----c----k----e----r? Very odd to use locker as a replacement. Ditto to Full Throttle in lieu of F----u----l----l T----h----r----o----t----t----l----e (or perhaps Full Throttel?). -

Fixed it for you. So I assume you've ridden it to have formed that opinion? Can you give us a more detailed review since you know what it rides like? Yes. It has no shed. -
