  1. While it is seasonal I don't expect the offseason to be very long. I'd be shocked if the operating calendar isn't from late March / Early April through New Years. PS: I finally looked at this place on a map and realized that the park is right up the road from Woodbury Commons which is a huge outlet mall right at the intersection of the NYS Thruway (87) and route 6 (where the park will be). People from the city flock to that area in droves, often on coach buses from the Port Authority / Manhattan. I feel like they'll do some type of partnership and (probably) run a f*ck ton more buses from NYC. This place is going to print money. In droves. Indeed. A f*ck ton.
  2. I agree, it's just about being able to bill it as a "new" ride. If we give any credit to the deja vu hint demoing it doesn't fit. And, since they consider the Larson Loop a "coaster" I wonder if they would be so eager to decrease their coaster count- and demo costs money too (cost without profit). Furthermore, the carousel and antique cars are the worst of any park. (Although it seems that making the yearly announcement a carousel or new antique cars will break the internet) I think the floorless idea got legs from Screamscape which posted: "the trend lately has been to transform B&M's old stand-up coasters into new Floorless coasters by adding new trains and modifying the station. With all this in mind... perhaps this is indeed Apocalypse's "last stand"." Either way: I would have been there today if there wasn't a 100% chance of rain, I'm still buying a season pass during the flash sale, still want a meal plan burrito, and restroom by Superman, a few more trees, and if they used Apocalypse as a FF maze next year and soda refill spot during the season it will never be Millennium Force with free beer.
  3. Rebrand Apocalypse as Thunderbird with different trains is the most likely. However, give me that and put the taco stand on the meal plan and I'm good.
  4. Trying to just stick with the info we have... Picture of a Thunderbird which is a name that was on the park survey -I guess that would be the ride name. Could it be Deja Vu? - Bring back an old ride? - Rebuild the Skull Mountain flume ride. Which would explain why they never completely disassembled it. - Bring back a renamed Two Face boomarang. Goliath giant boomerang at SFNE was formerly Deja Vu at SFMM. - Rebrand Apocalypse as Thunderbird with different trains. - I'm not overlooking the obvious example of Deja Vu where we felt like we were getting something good.
  5. When it comes to dating and SFA the key is to simply lower your standards. After all of the teasing last year and getting a lazy river upgrade I am simply going to cross my fingers that we are getting Lakemont's Chance Tobaggon.
  6. Close the coaster, make the gift shop a coke freestyle refill station, use the theming for a FF maze. Boom. Under budget and improved the park.
  7. I die inside every time one of my local friends calls it the "salt and pepper shakers". One of the reasons I love coming to this park. I never knew people called this the salt and pepper shakers. I always thought they were this below. The important thing this your kids can ride that while you purchase and sample from their green apple and apple cider slushes from the stand in front of it.

  9. Prime example of why I don't talk to people: I'm at my daughter's practice and notice a mom's BREAKERS T-Shirt. Assuming she liked coasters I said, "I love the Point, haven't stayed at Breakers. We went to Knoebels last week." She said, "Knoebels? Poor replacement for Cedar Point." Politics and religion being safer topics, I managed to smile and walk away. How would you respond?
  10. The Johnny Rockets thing is annoying. I assume it is a separate entity like the taco stand. Chop Six is my go to for drink refills as it is usually empty. Since I am not looking for culinary experience at a Six Flags, I will admit that since they just scoop and go, when I don't want to wait for the painfully slow food service- I will eat there. I usually ask which dish is the freshest and go with that. It's been fine.
  11. Finally made it to the park. We banged up the three hours arriving at opening and departing at about 7. Overall it lived up to the billing. It is just the right size being able to cut back or get anywhere without issue. On a Thursday there were just enough people to feel festive with the music and the food smells and the trees without having much in the way of lines. Flying Turns turned out to be the longest wait at 30 minutes. Everything else was maybe a train or two. Dispatches with one train on Phoenix were top notch. Last year I posed the question here about the top five foods and I used that as my checklist sampling Cesari's, the pierogies from the good place, sundae under the rotating umbrella, waffle ice cream sandwich, pickle on a stick, real iced tea, birch beer, and the apple cider and green apple slushes. I could return just to eat the rest of the stuff. The pierogies were definitely not Mrs. T's but it was the slushes that got me as I stood at one point holding both flavors trying to decide which I liked best. - Love a carousel that actually has the brass rings - Downdraft. That ride is sneaky. - We missed a bunch of other rides because we kept reriding the The Flyers. Good long ride cycle and speed. Snapping at the trees. There were many involuntary sounds of joy riding these. - Flying Turns is great for what it is, but not worth a wait - Is there a better Haunted Mansion? - Several rides on Impulse. I think I'm doing something right as a parent when my 13 year-old can turn and say I really like how these restraints hold your whole leg rather than just clamp down on your thigh and too bad this drop isn't higher. - Trying to figure out where Phoenix falls in the top 25 list. The air is great and so smooth. Reriding is like eating chips: just one more. - Not much time to look around from the top of the Stratosphere. Up up up drop - We didn't reride Twister, but liked the how the overall ride builds - Several people in front f us balked at the ticket price on the Skyway. Go for the bracelets. - World's best bumper cars? Yup. We rode many others but didn't hit everything and could easily have made it a two day park without swimming or playing golf. Parking was a breeze, the park is clean and kept up, and there was plenty of friendly staff.
  12. The only question I really ask myself when a new coaster is announced is: Do I want to go to, or return to, this park specifically to ride this. So, once this thing is built and the discussion is hey wanna go back to Kennywood? The response will be "O! I want to ride the Steelers ride." My first thought looking at the video was some of the yellow supports look like football uprights. I think many sports fans will make a point of wearing their Steelers jerseys to the park and and non-Steelers fans will make a point of wearing other team jerseys. I think the theming is pretty smart and will be well done. When you consider the Steelers franchise is valued at $2.25 Billion it is pretty safe. This is not "theming" the red and yellow Intimidator 305 to Dale "The Intimidator" Earnhardt's red and black #3 which drives me nuts.
  13. So there were three trains worth of people in line? This line can get up to 45 min to an hour in the summer if they are using one train and one station. Some of it has to do with the restraints - some people get confused on how to get into the seat. Also, they used to let you pull down the leg restraint and now they don't. If someone does sometimes they have releases them all and redo them. BW can turn into quite the debacle.
  14. After my first trip to the park was derailed for injury last summer I am healed and making another attempt next week. I was planning on driving up from MD to get there for opening and then hammer home at the end of the day. Should I just stay at the Danville Super 8?
  15. Four hours is more than enough time. I would just walk to the back of the park first, ride Batwing, and work your way back. You don't have to worry about lines on a Tuesday. Check out both the back and front on Superman. On Wild One, make sure not to sit on a wheel seat, my favorite is the second to last row. You are good with 4 hours. Most of your time could be wasted on food ops which I would skip with a late breakfast and then early dinner. If you are in at opening Superman and Batwing aren't always open. I usually hit the Mardi Gras section first. Ragin Cajin can get backed up later and while it is a pretty damn good ride it is not one I wait for.
  16. It will only take one person to pass out from heat exhaustion and sue them in order to change that.
  17. Thank you to everyone that responded. We went to the park opening weekend in April (SFA) and the biggest ride I got on was Ragin' Cajun and had no issue. I winched when VooDoo drop let go though. After a year , a clean MRI last week, still technically n the healing process, and stairs being a battle... I hit the park today. No issues with Wild One, Jokers Jinx, or Superman. ROAR was a bit rumbly and I was glad I had thrown on the light brace for banging. Even with the rainy conditions walking wasn't too bad. SFA at opening did not equate to much walking and standing (about 2 hours). Getting in and out of the rides was a bit careful and deliberate. I have no immediate plans for the likes of El Toro or SkyRush, but holy cow, after not getting air time for a year and missing the family trip to Knoebels last summer- it was great. But, if anyone suffers through this in the future and wants the answer: I would say give it a year.
  18. Bizarro burning my hair off.
  19. So if Darien Lake goes back to being a Six Flags are we no longer the worst one?
  20. Finally a way to get enthusiasts interested in a Mind Eraser ride: One lucky rider on each dispatch gets a souvenir piece of the ride to take home!!!
  21. I'm on board with this. You could do a lot with a leprechaun theme... or sell BGW and BGT to the Guinness people. Ramp up the beer selection. Call the ride "Drowning Shamrock"
  22. They moved The Awakening into the stadium last year and they had also filed permits to pour cement piers in there. Couldn't tell if that work was ever done or was a part of moving The Awakening in there. Either way, that would sound like moving toward using it more rather than knocking it down and leaving a giant hole.
  23. Being off from from school and still rehabbing my nasty knee (June dislocation with multiple fractures...) injury we headed in last Friday about 1045 with a unique approach. First coaster ride since our SFGE, SFNE, LC, Quassy, SFGAd loop... APOCALYPSE. Yes, bee line to the standing coaster, know the trick to not squish my nuts, first row, empty train, slow, know the layout and could brace my head, no pressure on the injury. Hoo-ray. Not the best, but 10 months not on a coaster- it was great. People in the ques so reride in the second row. Reride on APOCALYPSE! You know when people there is no such thing as bad pizza, you still had pizza. The extra people onboard must have increased the speed, couldn't prevent the head banging even on a slow ride. There is bad pizza. Since I couldn't get into WWLOT last year I could finally got to ride. The wind was kicking enough to make it good. Couldn't pick out the Washington Monument. Good addition but doesn't hold a candle to SFNE. Big kid met up with friends and hit Superman. Reported the same old with reride opportunities. Met up with the family and rerode WWLOT with no line. Riddler- which seems to be missing parts, paint, and making noises. Food service continues to be a disaster. Lengthy wait, orders wrong, and credit machines down and not telling people. Saw a guy have a meltdown as he finally got to wait and pay his $87 tab to be told, "We can't take credit cards." He informed them accurately that they needed to get their S*** together and that they SU****! Hopped on VooDoo drop with no wait. Still a decent quick ride. Ragin Cajin with the bar not on the legs- with just the big kid and myself it is the ideal spin rate. I don't know what they did to that coaster last year but that thing packs some punch anymore. BIG BLACK clouds started rolling in. We hopped in the Fliers hoping to catch a good wind burst. Extra theming for Mardis Gras. A band was setting up. They were giving our beads. New temporary New Orleans food stalls set up. Snagged some raspberry beignets as my snack and headed out. Cold Stones is now a coffee and ice cream place. Home by 230 and it started raining. Gator and Mardis Gras dancers were at the entrance for pictures. I can see the Mardi Gras thing in spring being a keeper especially with the extra food booths. Figure MG in spring, summer day, FF, HITP: four trips=value. Discover card / gold pass entry lanes are now signed as "membership". I don't know you can send people flying through the air numerous times quicker than putting a semi-thawed frozen burger patty already "cooked" and dumped in bucket onto a bun. Seriously a pie chart of my time in the park was mostly waiting for a burger. I might be tempted to hit Chop Six next time.
