Mini Millennium Force
DRWP2005 replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is really cool...I might end up getting one...(Christmas isn't too far away lol) But it would be really cool to see like a line of them get made. It wouldbe really cool to see a bunch of the Cedar Point roller coasters made. It would be neat to see how a wooden roller coaster would look too. -
Phantasialand Discussion Thread
DRWP2005 replied to roeterich's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That ride looks really impressive. If it looks anything like the artists renderings, it will be awesome. The article says its will feature 5 inversions, and be a "high G" ride. The waterfall that goes over the beginning of the lift hill looks really cool too. Its amazing how how far down they ended up digging, based on the pictures. This looks like it will be a great ride when its all done. -
Roller coaster designing
DRWP2005 replied to Reon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have actually contacted all of the major manufactuers of roller coaster, at one point in time to ask that very question, because that is what I orginally wanted to do. They all informed me many different types of engineers actually work on the designing of a roller coaster. But the main type is mechinial engineers. The reason that I changed was the fact that there are so little jobs actually open in this field, and it would be so hard to get, and I really didn't wanna end up designing anything else so I changing my major. Also if you look at the profiles for the members of the Gravity Group it tells you what kind of degrees they all have. -
Golden Ticket awards announced at SFFT today
DRWP2005 replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
coaster1- Yeah I explained that in my post on the first page...the people in the clubs don't need to subscribe becuase they know everything that's in the paper by the time they get it thanks to the internet. The people that I imagine that subscribe to AT are mostly the actually parks themselves, like the managers and higher up people. At least hopefully the TV show will be interesting -
Golden Ticket awards announced at SFFT today
DRWP2005 replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No the award show was today at SFFT, it was being taped for a show that will air on the Travel Channel sometime next year, I believe. Also I'm pretty sure that it isn't mostly people in the coaster community that vote for these awards. I say this because, one I dont think that a lot of people who consider themselves enthusiasts, actually subscribe to AT. Everything that's in AT, the enthusiasts already know about it, by the time they get the paper. So I don't really think that many members of ACE vote...Second to be part of the voting "acadamy" I believe that you have to be picked by AT, they used to say that if you just tell them that you want to vote, that they will include you, but that isn't the case. I also think the Zinga was the first funnel slide ProSlide ever built, and I know that Master Blaster was the first uphill water ride, so I think that the reason the first one always wins is because thats it is was the first one ever, and like mentioned already the rest are mostly just clones of the first one. Jeezus Juice-Mean Streak was ranked 33rd in a 3 way tie with Timber Terror and the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper. -
Has a waterslide ever scared you?
DRWP2005 replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No way!!! That picture of the looping slide is fake. I mean, if its real, then there's got to be more then just one picture of it. And if you look at it you can tell its fake...1) There's no slide piece joints on the loop part, and there would have to be some, as you couldn't make that one piece, 2) Theres no way that water would flow all the way around the loop, as there would have to some kind of jet going up toward the top of the loop. 3) Look at the top of the slide tower, the straight piece is just there going straight up, and doesn't connect to a starting point of any kind... So as far, as I'm concerned this is fake. -
SfGam's HH Now Open
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The ProSlide CannonBowl Slide Series are tube slides, and use either single or double tubes, and are 40 feet in diameter...ProSlide recommends that the weight of a raft, eiter single or double not exceed 375 pounds, other wise it becomes a little bit dangerous. The only thing I dont like about any of the ProSlide CannonBowls is that fact that you do not go around enough times in the bowl, if it wasn't for those 3 jets in the bowls, it would be a lot more fun ride, as you then go around like 8 times. -
SfGam 5/21/05 Can you say, Amzaing?
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well It looks as if they will end up making it...Although Skull Island must be cutting it close, They have to be working very late into the night in order to get this all done. And slide testing is quite fun, I have participated in it befoe...its always cool to be able to say that you were one of the first people to go down a slide. -
It's still running!!! SfGam 5/7/05
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
HH is starting to take shape but they still have a ton of work to do there...It appears that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the slidetowers, and a few slide pieces left to be put up...not to mention starting to fill everything up, which isn't a fast task, as it takes a while to fill parks like this up. -
Hades is now testing!
DRWP2005 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that, that is probably the best photo we will see of the train going through the 90 degree part, mostly because I can't imagine standing that close to the track, in order to get those shots, that tunnel doesn't look that big. And it is indeed 90 degrees just look at the picture in that other gallery with the guy standing next to it! I can't wait for on-ride video of this ride to come out. -
SfGam Opening Day 2005- Training Day
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah what a surprise, I never would have guessed it, another Six Flags Water Park, getting a ProSlide Tornado. Although the catch pool in that picture, doesn't look like it was made for a conveyor for the tubes. -
I don't think its obvious because of that one post...Paula is trying to get everyone to guess, and just because the post says "WOODn't you like to know" doesn't mean a wooden roller coaster. Plus Paula wouldn't just give it away so fast. Paula has dropped many many hints in the blog so far, IDK what it is but hopefully it will be cool.
-
For those of you who check out the Holiday Blog daily...you have probably already seen todays entry...But if you don't check it daily, you might want to look at 2 of the entries that Paula posted today. They show two shipments that Holiday World recieved recently, and Paula made the comment "I have a feeling that this should say do not open untill 2006" It shows a buckets of brackets, and something really long, and some stacked that looks like a bunch of pre-cut sheet metal...I have no clue as to what this could be, but it is starting to peak my interest...

I have been to too many water parks to remember exactly what they all had...but my favorite has to be Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels. They have so many interesting design features there. Not only in the way the rides are layed out, but also with the way that one half of their park is spring fed. That is really cool and I'm positive saves a ton of money. My other favorite water park has to be the one at HW, They have so many cool rides there. Zoombabwe is one of the coolest family raft rides ever. Not to mention they have a ProSlide Racer there and those are really cool...Plus their new wave pool looks really neat and very well themed. Last but not least is Deep River Water Park, in Crown Point, IN, located about 40 minutes from downtown Chicago. They have 2 body slides, one fast, enclosed one, and a slower open one. An awesome open tube slide. 3 Really fun enclosed tube slides, and 2 speed slides...New this year is the $13 million expansion which includes the "only dueling double bowl ride in the WORLD" A new fast rapids river, and a really well themed playstructure from Koala Playgroup. In the fall the river pumps will kicked into high gear to allow the park to have whitewater kayacking. Then for winter the new entrance plazza will be turned into a nice ice skating rink.
-
I would consider myself sort of a water park specialist, but not in parks that are no longer operating. I do know a lot about how parks function and a lot about slides and the such. But sorry I do not know anything about that particular park. Hopefully you will be able to find some more information out.

What software do parks use for ride animation.
DRWP2005 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Ask Alvey
Yeah for sure I know that Keith uses 3DMax also with a little but of Photoshop. His stuff is really amazing and he does such a great job. It is a little hard to use at first if you have never used it before but once you get the hang of it its really cool. -
I thought that I would post some pictures because this is the biggest expansion in the parks history. It is a $14 Million dollar project. Which is adding: the "only dueling double bowl ride in the world". A new action river, with various water features. And a playstructure from Koala Playgroup. The new river will feature adjustable flow pumps so once the park closes for the summer, the pumps will be cranked up and it will feature whitewater kayacking. Then for the winter, the new entry plaza will be able to be frozen so that it can be used for ice skating. It is caple of freezing ice until the outdoor temp reaches about 40 degrees... The park is about one hour from downtown Chicago. Enjoy the pictures. (I have a lot more so if you guys want to see more just ask) The "only dueling double bowl ride in the world"! Entrance to new river Entrance plaza/ Ice rink in winter New Entrance

SfGam's Hurricane Harbor Update
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just because it is in the employee handbook, doesn't mean that no one reads it...I would venture to say that hardly none of the employees actually read that entire thing. Its like the high school handbook, well at least my old high school (oh man how time flies), anyways no one ever reads that handbook either, its just guidelines. Things like that are meant to scare people, or thats what I believe. -

Fired...I don't think that just because a 6 Flags employee was to post on a public forum isn't grounds to be fired...When they become an employee they don't sign something that says, "Thou shalt not post about our park in a public forum" Anyways on another message board, not to name names many park employees posts messages, so I don't think that one could get fired for that. -
SfGam's Hurricane Harbor Update
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If your trying to say that you work there, and you know it will be ready, that always isn't the case...I know for a fact that a park tries to tell its employees that their new stuff will be ready, even if the upper managgement knows it won't be, so if that employee goes on a public forum such as this one, then that person says that everything will be ready. I'm just saying that there is a lot of things that go on behind closed doors, that parks don't tell their employees. -
SfGam's Hurricane Harbor Update
DRWP2005 replied to DejaVu The Ride's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IDK man...if they are just starting to put up slide pieces now...I would have to say that there is no way they will be ready for May, although side pieces do go up easily, but still they only started that one tower in the far back...Not to mention there is a TON on concrete that needs to be poured, and it doesn't appear that they have started back-grading anything. Also, normal standred time to put up a Koala Playgroup Playstructure is 1 month, and that is once they started by putting the first piece in place, not the underground work. And since this is the worlds largest playstructure, I'm sure it will talk much longer then that...and it doesn't look like that started that either, and its already April 12th.. not to mention that all the landscaping won't be done by then, so they still have a TON of work to do...I'm not trying to start anything, but what makes you so sure it will be ready in time? -
NEWS: Holiday World Announces Thier Blog!
DRWP2005 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is actually a really cool thing I think... I love to read the little stories and such and I have read it everyday since it started. My favorite story so far was the one about the different numbers that everyone in the park has, my park is the same way, so I know what its like. I wish more parks would do something like this. -

I'm gonna have to say, that based on that web cam photo that they are a little bit behind schedule on this park. I just don't think that it will be ready to open up by May. It just looks like they got way to much work to do. -
Totally Messed Up Ultra Twister...
DRWP2005 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That looks pretty cool, but I bet terribly painful going through the dive loop. Also having the twists going uphill is pretty neat too. How come no one has ever heard of this before though?
