Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

At least with La Ronde's park president coming here, we'll have a GM who's already used to having a large wooden coaster that'll never be RMCed -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Does anyone else think that Wildcat is more likely to be torn down for a waterpark expansion rather than an RMC conversion, or is it just me? -
So let's take a look at what has happened themetically under Bonnie: --New Themed Areas-- Gotham City to D.C. Comics Land Lower Colossus County Fair to Screampunk District Lower Baja Ridge to Americana Plaza High Sierra Territory to Full Throttle Zone Movie District to Metropolis Bugs Bunny Kids Zone to Bugs Bunny World Upper Colossus County Fair to The Boardwalk That is an insane amount of park revamp to do while improving ops from 4 minute dispatches with 1 train to 2 minute dispatches with 2 trains consistently running. I really hope that they continue these new themed lands, as in our community alone, it's really improved their reputation from a rundown, crappy place that hasn't seen a coat of paint in years, to a park with really hard working management that are adding awesome themed lands with solid rides. The first time I visited, Screampunk District was all the rage, and New Revolution was under construction. While Screampunk and D.C. looked really, really nice, the rest of the park looked like a major eyesore, and while the rides were a blast and it was fun, the areas just didn't feel clean. Now fast forwarding to Americana Plaza and Metropolis and soon to be The Boardwalk, the park feels completely fresh again. Everything feels much better maintained, it feels a lot "sharper", and the park feels like it isn't sagging, but has a lot more energy than it ever did. So in the extremely unlikely case that Neil ever reads this, keep up with the area revamps as they are the only reason I was able to convince my non-coaster riding family to come to the park, as the photos convinced them it didn't look trashy like people said 10 years ago.

While it may be amazing if a GCI comes, there's reasons why they haven't added one. If they have one short woodie they can't keep smooth, why does anyone think they'd be able to properly maintain another one? Also, if they're removing a maintenance headache, why would they add a ride that needs constant money put into it to keep it running well? 3rd, if they were to add a GCI, how are supposed to configure it without tearing out and adding infrastructure? Dorney is a small park, so if they were to go big and add a new coaster, they're definitely not going to want to have to spend a ton of money creating a new station, new queue, and relocating several rides just to add a coaster, when they could get a cheaper addition and not have to do any changes to the surrounding land. And this is all hypothetical, as in all honesty, a waterpark addition or a planet snoopy addition are much more likely with the small scale additions Dorney receives. I absolutely hate it when everyone assumes that just because a rollercoaster was removed, a really awesome new one will be replacing it the next year. Did Kings Dominion replace Shockwave with a coaster? I didn't think so. Removing Stinger simply helps clean the lineup and give maintenance some more money to keep rides people actually go to up and running. Let's keep things realistic, and stop instantly assuming that they'll be getting a GCI because then otherwise y'all will be looking at a KD 2017 2.0 here.

Unpopular opinion here, and please feel free to chime in. I really hope that the park changes their new rollercoaster additions style, and here's why. I went onto RCDB.com and just had a quick peek at all of the rollercoasters they have or plan to have They have/will have a: -Spinning Mouse -SLC -SBF Visa 2-Helix Family Coasters -SBF Visa Spinner -Wacky Worm -2nd Gen. Vekoma Launcher -Vekoma Rollerskater -Vekoma Family Suspended -Go Gator -Vekoma Family Boomerang -Intamin Hyper -Intamin Water Coaster Now if we break those rides down into category of how "good" they are, we'll have: Fantastic- Hyperion (Intamin Hyper) Formula (Vekoma Launch) Good- Roller Coaster Mayan (2nd Gen SLC) Speed (Intamin Water Coaster) Dragon (Vekoma Family/Thrill Suspended) Eh- Viking (Spinning Mouse) Boomerang (Vekoma Family Boomerang) Just here to bump up the coaster count- Circus Coaster (Go Gator) Frutti Loop Coasters (Wacky Worm) Energús (Rollerskater) Mars (SBF Family) Happy Loops Coaster (SBF Spinner) And looking at this breakdown, while some may disagree with placements of a few attractions, can see that by the time their 2 most recent rides open, they'll be in a bit of a situation. The park is rapidly expanding to try and hit 20 coasters, but then I'm concerned we'll be looking at a park with a severe case of Canada's Wonderland syndrome where they will have a few amazing coasters, a couple good supporting ones, and then a bunch of "eh" ones that are okay-why is this here, that will simply be there to get them up to 20 coasters. Magic Mountain had this problem for a long time where they'd be rapidly expanding without any thought towards future affectment, and now that they've taken a step back and looked at other things like dining experience, themed lands, and operations, they've definitely been able to make it a better park, even though they haven't added a coaster in over 4 years. The park is definitely making a step in the right direction by adding 2 world class coasters and a decent family one for 2019, however, there's still a lot of planning they need to do to be the premier rollercoaster park they're trying to achieve. I'm just worried that visitors will come for the "MOST ROLLERCOASTERS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD" ads, and then walk out saying "Well there were a couple good coasters, and that family coaster was fun, but a lot of rollercoasters there were kids ones and were trash" which then leads to eh reviews and less funding from the government, which leads to less rollercoasters, and less revenue. HOWEVER, the reason I haven't bashed the park on the things that Magic Mountain had when it was under this mindset is the park, aesthetics wise, looks fantastic. The Mars Coaster?! That had some of the most impressive theming I've ever seen on a kiddie coaster, and the operations look solid, and the food looks pretty decent. Every single ride looks well maintained, and although not in a themed land, looks heavily themed to it's respective self. So thank you if you've actually read all this which is pretty impressive, and let me know if you agree or disagree, I'd love to hear some other opinions on it -

These are a compilation of what I've seen over my past couple visits (although I have visited 15+ times in the past year or so). Now certain rides, particularly The New Revolution: CLASSIC, Riddler's Revenge, and X2 can very from what I wrote up to +1:15. However, this is an overall view of what you should expect on a good day, although certain attractions will definitely be slower than the norm as with any park

there has been a lot of chatter about dispatch times at six flags over the past day and two, so i thought that it would be a great help for everyone if I compiled a list of the average dispatch time for every ride in the park, enjoy!! Are the days of horrible Six Flags ops over?
Mr. Corn replied to Mr. Corn's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can attest as a frequent attender of the park, I one time saw someone try and convince a Tatsu op that they could hold onto their bag, and one time this person was caught with a phone in X2's station, and they wouldn't let a ride-op put it on the side... that was a very long 8 and 1/2 minutes i'll never get back. Just for anyone going to the park soon and wondering, i will be posting a list of the average dispatch time for every ride in the park momentarily!! -
I honestly, with all the budget cuts, never see DarKastle running again. Just a thought but what if they moved 5-6 of the cars into one of the large scenes and turned it into a motion simulator like Minion Mayhem where the cars stay stationary. That'd definitely lower maintenance costs, and then they'd have a really nice, attached space to do dining and other rentable space needing events
-
While some people may be slightly upset that TR is getting removed, how about we look at all the upsides i'm about to list below: -First New Coaster in 10 years -Will be a great step up from Motocoaster -Much lower maintenance costs for the park which means there will be a bigger budget for things like lights on the ferris wheel being replaced, and new paint for Viper's station -Great marketability that'll bring new guests to the park -Has a nice mix of hang time, fast turns, and some mini pops of airtime -Fairly reliable -Will bring some much needed new life to the park's skyline which can only attract more people So while I get being upset about a log flume closing is a big deal, or a SUPER big deal to coaster bill), let's be happy we're getting a new coaster. (Low key not even sure why I typed this as logical thinking isn't normally accepted in the Darien Lake thread)

Hey guys, I hate to be that guy, but I uploaded a decent Trip Report of Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest 2017 in my trip reports thread, and there's been very little views and no comments so I thought I'd give it a friendly bump here (sorry, it's just slightly frustrating to have a trip report thread with a lot of solid reports and very little comments or anythings on it) themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=72745&start=10

I see Knotts' next (non kiddie) coasters being an addition along the lines of The New Revolution. Take Jaguar, give it a new color scheme, get new trains and turn them backwards, add a fog machine as you go through the temple, and give it a modified name like Jaguar Unleashed. It'd be a HUGE hit that would be extremely cost effective compared to a brand new coaster. Thoughts?
-
WestCoasterKing got me thinking, and I know that Knott's 100th Anniversary is coming up, and I had a cool idea. What if Knott's brought in Sally Corp to do a Knott's Berry Tales remake in the Boardwalk Ballroom? It'd be an amazing throwback to such an amazing attraction, all the older folks would come to reride such a classic attraction, and Knott's has finally realized that to compete with Disney, they need unique Dark Rides!! What do y'all think?!
-
Any predictions for what'll be replacing it? I'm guessing: -Upgraded Waterpark Entrance -Upgraded Restaurant -Water Coaster -Mat Racer -Slide Complex -Every Slide getting new paint -Additional shade -Upgraded landscaping Also, there would probably be a new name, any guesses for that? I'm guessing: -San Fransisco Shores -California Harbor -Riptide Cove

^Do they usually only run 1 train on Phoenix and Twister? Kind of seems to destroy the fact that they have the fastest operations in North America, with the fact that once the train leaves, you have to wait 1:30 till it gets back and the car reloads
