  1. I agree. SFA could benefit the most as they have neither a spinner nor a mouse and they really don't have much in terms of family coasters unless you count the 2 woodies. Park update is up over at NewsPlusNotes if anyone is interested.
  2. Oh wow... We are starting to sound like the Disney fanboys at MiceChat. How bout we let the ride open and then judge it? I've yet to ride a B&M Hyper, or a Giga that disappointed me, I think a B&M Giga will be great even if it just dropped into one turnaround and straight into the brakes.
  3. I have absolutely no problem with Wing-overs, they never really bother me. B&M Corkscrews or "Flat-spins" as B&M calls em are pretty temperamental. Medusa at SFDK, smooth as glass, no problem. Vortex at CGA, Riddler and Scream at SFMM, Mantis, Dominator at KD all pretty much suck when it comes to corkscrews. My extent with Vekoma corkscrews are the halves in the cobra roll of a boomerang, but those are pretty unpleasant. Arrows are also hit or miss, Both Demons (CGA and SFGAm) are great, but Vortex at KI, Viper at SFMM and Anaconda at KD all beat the crap out of me. Bottom line, I'm not a fan of corkscrews in general so gimme a loop or zero-g roll any day.
  4. The cobra rollback is how they warm the wheels in the morning so it doesn't valley along the course.
  5. I just died a little inside, knowing I won't get to ride this this year.
  6. Generally from my experience, they close based off of attendance. If the park is a ghost town and it's getting to the point where even if it stops raining it's unlikely anyone will show up, they will call it and close early. They don't make any money off of being open and so they would rather jeopardize repeat business from the people that did show up rather than lose some money that day. It's really a perfect example of how Six Flags only ever focuses on the moment and never works towards a future. The other reason is safety. If the storm is just so bad that it creates unsafe conditions for guests, they will close the park. This generally doesn't happen because by the time it gets that bad they have already closed for the above reason. All this is based off my experience at another Six Flags park, but I know all follow a fairly similar guideline.
  7. ^ Not gonna lie, it's sad that I've grown up my whole life around places like Traintown and Funderland and still haven't been on those little coasters, yet you live in Oregon and have. Maybe I should take some pointers from you on her to be a good credit whore, haha.
  8. So I went to the park today to check out what was going on. They have work walls up around Superman's site, making it hard to see inside. But there really isn't anything at all to see. Nothing from the ride has shown up yet. Tony Hawk is still at the park, sitting up in the parking lot mostly, with some pieces and the cars sitting on the concrete pad still. If it's going to SFM, they sure don't seem to be in a hurry. Everything else was pretty much the same, all the coasters were up, Medusa the only one with multiple trains. SkyScreamer was down for maintenance while I was there (11-2). Employees seemed ok, it was definitely opening day though. We'll have an update up at NewsPlusNotes early this week if you guys want to check it out.
  9. With the exception of Oasis Plaza and Roar Plaza, they park is basically the exact same layout. I think the only really major change to pathways was to accommodated White Water Safari which made them take out the path that cut through what is now Skycoaster at the the lower lagoon of WWS. Also the path where you enter WWS hugs Shouka Stadium a bit more than it did. Every other change was just mild adjustments to fit things in, like Looney Tunes Seaport or Ocean Discovery.
  10. I'm totally the person that put up 90% of those directional signs at SFDK . But then again I was told which to put up so it's still not my fault. lol
  11. Looking pretty good. They are farther along then I had imagined. The video on the park's sit shows Skull Mountain still there, I believe they are just cleaning it up. Some paint would make it look good and it fits the theme of Apocalypse.
  12. It's never bothered me how the rides look, but it drives me crazy when the layout makes it's harder to navigate the park rather than easier. SFDK's map from '03 to '07 was that way, people got totally lost using that thing. Anyone going to DK for opening weekend? I had planned to but it looks like it's going to rain pretty good so I may push it off a week... go figure the park opens when the rain FINALLY shows up in the Bay Area.
  13. Woops, Medusa's loop is 128', I mistyped that original post. After I had posted that Mr. Freeze popped in my head too as I knew those were close to 150. So when SFDK says tallest in the west, do they mean in the Pacific time zone? Haha.
  14. Volcano has the tallest inversion at 155ft. So Superman misses it by 5 feet (damn you Vallejo and your height limits). Medusa never had the tallest inversion, it had the tallest vertical loop @ 124ft. I think Dominator and Superman: KC beat it now. And I may be wrong but I believe CGA's carousel was built slightly taller and solely holds the record for tallest carousel.
  15. ^ Agreed. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I am, however, very aware of the books and absolutely LOVE them(Which is odd because I never read Sci-Fi). Andrew Stanton did an amazing job with the story and it was so easy to follow, I don't get how people got confused with the story at all. Maybe since I've read the books I could follow more? Definitely give it a try, it's a great time. I'm so disappointed with the horrible marketing Disney did for it.
  16. Small ride = quick installation. Also, last day of Spring is June 20... So it's over 3 months away. It's not even technically Spring yet. I have a little more faith that this will be up my Memorial Day weekend now, assuming everything goes well with installation.
  17. ^ They didn't just shorten it, totally ripped out Shoreline Express. It wasn't just because of Tava's either. It was a combination of Tava's, the remodel of lakeside (the area with the big white tent) and the incredibly poor condition of the train itself. That thing was on it's last leg and needed a lot of money to fix up, so they just dumped it instead. Then a year later they laid the new tracks for Thomas in the area that Shoreline used to be. As far as Superman goes, I'm in no way concerned about the ride being opened on time for Memorial Day... I just don't understand why the park hasn't made the best of this amazing weather and started getting everything ready. It seems like it would make sense to be ahead of schedule. It means more time with the ride open and more potential revenue for the park in the early months. I look at rides like Leviathan and Sky Rush that are much larger and in places with way worse climates and they are likely to have those rides ready to go on opening day.
  18. Drove by the park on Saturday on my way through Vallejo, nothing to report other than a full employee lot. I'm sure training is in full swing with the park opening in a few weeks. No signs of anything Superman related in the usual spots where they store stuff like that.
  19. In the Bay Area 15 mins from Pixie Land 45 mins from Train Town 1.25 hours from Funderland 2 hours from J's Amusement Park (defunct) I think there is a Six Flags and a Cedar Fair park somewhere around here too.
  20. It doesn't really matter the dynamic of the ride. ADA still requires they provide access.
  21. Greezed Lightnin is a Weight Drop launch, not a Flywheel. That's probably the big issue with the launch, I think it's the last one of it's kind in the US, right?
  22. I watched a video a few weeks ago interviewing someone from Gravity Group and he said that no one is going to really notice the subtle changes except for maybe the die hard fans that have ridden it hundreds of times. From what I got, the changes are to help improve track quality by limiting negative forces the beat the track to sh*t as well making the adjustments necessary to run the Timberliners. I say more power to them!
  23. ^ I personally think the guard handled it very well. He wasn't excessive and for the most part had control until that final outburst right as backup was arriving. Yes response was a little slow but this was not a terrorist... do we really need ridiculous fear mongering on this? It was just a drunk guy. After watching the video again the guard appears to be explaining over the radio that the suspect was subdued with pepper spray due to being physical. He didn't seem to be requesting emergency assistance, in which case the backup is still coming but not code 3 (in a hurry). It wasn't until a minute later that the situation started to get out of hand and he didn't have an opportunity to call for emergency assistance. Lets not get carried away and say that Disney is as unsafe as Compton or something!
  24. I'm sorry, I don't mean to beat a dead horse here and sound like a total ass. Did I miss some news release or something that said this thing is going to sit on a base frame? I just don't see that happening on this thing with the way the supports are designed but a few people have said that now. Are people just assuming this because the last 2 rides in that spot were base frame rides? If that's the case, then more power to them and I'm sure it will go up really quick...
  25. There is violence in Portland? I thought everyone was laid back and cool there. But I agree with the whole ridiculousness of filming stuff, I mean look at the whole Oscar Grant thing with BART Police here in the Bay Area... it's crazy that the first thought in people's mind is "I gotta film this!"
