I'll be doing my usual: SFDK CGA SCBB Disneyland DCA USH SFMM Knott's Vegas (NYNY Coaster for sure, maybe Desperado) Maybe: SeaWorld Summer Trip, going to check out some less frequented parks up in the Northwest to get some elusive credits. Enchanted Forest Oaks Amusement Park Wild Waves Riverfront Park Silverwood

Not gonna lie... It's going to be hilarious if this thing's capacity ends up being decent. Loading is key with this bad boy. As log as everyone is pre-grouped and the locker policy is enforced, it should take long to check a 12 seat train of lap bars and send it on it's merry way. Honestly it shouldn't take more than 45 seconds to unload, load and dispatch if the crew is efficient. Also, V2 never has a long line so maybe(doubt it) Six Flags took that into account when anticipating demand in the long run. Either way, unless this thing blows my mind, I don't intend to ever wait in line for it.

Well when you aren't selling the place, you might as well keep it up a bit. I really hope CF's new management puts some focus into this park. It's location is in the 11th most populated metro area in the US and has some of the most consistent and favorable weather for a theme park outside of Southern California. It has the potential to really make a lot of money for CF if they put some effort into keeping people interested.

^ I literally laughed out loud when I read the Mouse comment. I had joked that they would send SFDK's Big Spin to SFGAm since they hadn't gotten a mouse in at least 3 years. I sadly never rode Iron Wolf both times I was at SFGAm since I only did half days there on my way to CP from California. I would have like to try it out. And I just went to SFA last year and probably won't be back for a few years. I know it had a bad rep but it was still an important part of coaster history.

That picture does make the support for the zero g is on the opposite side of the lift, a little deceiving. This may have been discussed already but... Why did they take out Iron Wolf? I had been under the assumption it was to make room for X-Flight but if what I'm seeing is correct they are building X-Flight near Demon where the old Shoot the Chutes ride was and not really near where Iron Wolf was (I haven't been to the park in a while so I may be off here). Was IW just kind of a "get that POS out of here while we are building a new coaster so it doesn't look like we are losing a ride" sort of thing?

Ugh, I still say that the stacked I beam look is hideous, yet Intamin can make it look good. I guess I'm coming around in regards to the look of this thing. I still definitely want to ride it regardless of how it looks. -

It amazes me how Intamin can make such ugly coasters, yet they are totally beautiful at the same time. That lift is honestly hideous, yet I love how it looks. Damn you Intamin and your ability to totally mind f%#k me. -
One (or two) of a kind
Double0Kevin replied to Prettygoodyear's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never seen anything on this before, I'm seriously intrigued by it. -
^I think Superman water challenge would be pretty cool, the heartline is taken so slowly it could get interesting and the non inverting loop would present some fun challenges. Who would have thought that our random idea of giving you guys water cups to make Tony Hawk ERT less boring would become such a hit. Also, I probably should have put in a disclaimer that when I left the park in 2009 I stopped paying attention to merchandise (I've only been back 2 or 3 times) so it's very likely they have started re-selling ride related merchandise since then and I'm unaware.

That lift hill just looks so odd to me with the supports the way they are. You expect to see that on an Intamin coaster maybe, not on a B&M. Can't wait to ride this thing. -
^Actually, that clearly shows a separate station and tunnel behind the old Zonga station. Like I've said numerous times, The Pandemonium station will moved and re-purposed as Superman's station, where as Zonga's station will be used for the queue line just like Pandemonium did. Yeah I prefer simple designs and Parks tend to go over the top with big graphics and bright colors that you would expect to see on an ACEr or on someone in the backwoods of Virginia with it's sleeves cut off.

Superman's station is Pandemonium's station. They are reusing the steel frame but putting it in a new location with a new skin on it. The wood you see is likely the roof and siding of the station, which will be replaced. After V2 originally debuted, the park decided it didn't make enough on Ride branded merchandise and haven't had any since. The only exception they had was "Big Spin" shirts when Tony Hawk first opened, but they were lame and didn't say Tony Hawk on them because he had his own clothing line so it wasn't allowed.

I agree with most of this. I don't think the lift height needs to be raised as long as they allow the drop to do what it used to do in regards to going all the way down to the ground (making it steeper would also be cool). I also think Rattler is kinda well known for it's triple helix so I would like to see that get preserved, though made more exciting if possible.

What's your favorite Flat ride?
Double0Kevin replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know full details, but I know they tended to have stuff fall off of them. I'd say my favorite types of flats are Giant Frisbees. I could have ridden MaXair for days. -
Wow, nice to see the park didn't waste any time pulling down Pandemonium. Makes sense that they left it open through Holiday in the Park since it doesn't seem to have caused any issues with the time frame. I doubt Superman will take long to put up anyways. The issue with the heat was limited to the drive tires on the lift. They had a nasty habit of melting. Also the PSI in the lift tires were something like 120PSI so when it warmed up the pressure against the tires that were either melting or just getting softer tended to make them go boom. It was kind of humorous when one blew. There were a few times when a lift tire blew and guests in line would scream and run cause it sounded like a bomb going off. Texas is hot, but not hot enough to warp steel. The track was fine.

Same thing happened to me when I stopped working at SFDK. You kind of go into this slacker mode for a year or 2 when it comes to visiting parks... or maybe it just feels that way because your not walking around a park on a daily basis. Great TR, I need to make it to the south one of these days and get on some of these bad boys. -
Shane's Amusement Attic
Double0Kevin replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At the top of the page, type the park name in the "search this topic" box. 1st of all, There's nothing else since the 70s to now? 2nd, There's some Marriott stuff but nothing on Six Flags Great America. Shane's stuff tends to be fairly dated(that's what makes it so fun). Six Flags didn't buy Great America from Marriott until around '91 or '92, so anything you see for that park is likely going to be Marriott not SF. -
No offense dude, but this is not accurate. The track modifications were not the cause of any issues with the ride. Essentially they raised the loops about 10 feet, reducing the drop height and speed. This decreased the 6.5 Gs in the loop to around 6 Gs. The remainder of the ride stayed the same. One issue, though small, the trains were shortened from 6 cars to 5 cars to also help with reduction of Gs(I'll explain why this was an issue below). The new restraints were bigger, but MUCH softer, they were definitely an improvement rather than a negative. The roughness was really not that bad throughout the ride except as the train exited the red loop. That was a really bad rough spot that would beat your head if you weren't ready for it. That one spot was what made everyone think the ride was terrible, but saying the whole ride was really rough is a total "GP" description. Technical problems were a few really stupid things that were mostly not related to the ride and more the guests and operators. The 2 biggest issues were the air gates and the short trains. The air gates were really cheap (in fact they were the left over exit air gates from Medusa that were never installed) and so whenever the guests pushed enough they would open too much and cause an error that didn't let a train move in or out of the station. The other issue was that the drive tires on the track were spaced for a 6 car train, so if an operator let go of a dispatch button on accident it would stop the trains and valley them between drive tires. All the other issues were general stuff that happens on all rides, and really Zonga didn't have terrible downtime. What led to the ride's demise was that the State did feel it was a little too rough and wanted the park to get new trains before they would sign it off for 2005. The park opted to not operate it and then sell it off.
