Love how this POV shut up everyone that was complaining about trims and water splashes slowing this down too much... Looks like an awesome ride. -
Pandemonium actually had decent capacity for the type of coaster it was. It only had 6 cars as opposed to the other model the other parks have which can run 8, yet it always had the highest capacity out of the 5. I can't remember the numbers, but I think it was around 500pph? Decent for a family coaster. For Superman, I'm guessing they are going to do Flash Pass like they did (maybe still do) X2. The additional charge for a 1 time use. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to handle the demand and keep the standby line moving at all.

1. I didn't mean to start a huge debate of this, it was only a short lived RUMOR. Don't invest too much into it. 2. Chang is not the same size as Medusa even if they have similar stats. There footprints are pretty different. Also, ground work would have been relatively light. Biggest things would be removing and replacing the warehouses elsewhere. But again this was a split second rumor that was gone almost as quickly as it came up, nothing went far with it. The log flume didn't call for the removal of Dino. It snaked it's way between Boomerang and Taz Devil. It also would have called for the removal of Jungle Theater and mods to the Elephant enclosure. It had under water clear tubes through alligator and hippo exhibits as well as above water sections past elephants and flamingos. Guests would have been able to walk back to see the animal exhibits as well. I believe it was a corporate cancellation due to budget. I'm not totally sure but based off the artwork I saw I would have ball parked the ride at around 15-20 million when you add in the animal enclosures and what not. I think they had named it River Wild. As for current plans, I don't really keep in touch with anyone at the park anymore so I honestly have no clue on whats planned now-a-days. If something is planned up there, I don't know anything about it.

A low launched coaster would work in respect to the height limit, but I doubt the park would even bother trying since it's almost guaranteed that they would be met with strong opposition from the neighbors across the lake. When the park had Shoreline Express, the operators weren't allowed to use the train's whistle except in emergency situations because the neighbors complained about the noise. They also wanted the park to ban screaming on Jambo at one point. As for Dino Hill, the only rumor I've ever heard for that hill was the Log flume that was planned for 2001 that eventually was canceled. The concept art for that thing was so awesome, it easily would have been one of the coolest water rides ever built outside of Disney. There was also a very short lived idea of relocating a coaster from another park to the back side of the hill where the warehouses are, but instead SF decided to paint the loop yellow and send it elsewhere... I'll let you guys do the math.

You guys have to remember that when VooDoo was added there were only 2 major coaster in the park, one of those(Boomerang) was right next to VooDoo. There was no Roar plaza, no Oasis Plaza and animals were still one of the biggest draws for the park. VooDoo was in a prime location near a major coaster, the animals, and it had Jambo back there as a 1-2 punch. It wasn't until the following 2 years when Roar and Medusa were built that the park crowds really shifted towards the front of the park, and almost every new attraction (except the Tiger Show and Tava's Jungleland which are both family oriented) built has brought the thrill crowd away from that area of the park.

^ I take the more conservative route so it seems like I've been on nothing, except I feel like I've done quite a bit. I generally take the RCDB route... If RCDB counts a ride as 1 toward the park's coaster count... I also count it as one. The only exception is when it is a drastically different layout (i.e. Dragon Challenge). In the long run, I don't care how others do it, I just do it for fun for myself. Other people's rules do not bother me at all.

VooDoo's fountains!? Does not compute. That pond was GROSS last week when I rode it. Hope they at least cleaned it out a bit, but that is awesome! Hope that kind of upkeep lasts. Superman's construction seems to have really slowed down. Not a whole lot of progress over the last week. The station and tunnel themeing are coming along though, which is good to see.

Well it worked out for CGA since Hypersonic turned out to be a total bust. Also, that whole "We are going family" was a total marketing spin to make excuses for the sudden cut in spending towards large attractions at the park. They just didn't want to advertise being cheap. *edit* - I want to point out when I say they were being cheap, I'm referring to this on a corporate level. The park was just doing what they could with what they got. They weren't the ones being cheap (although this all happened around the time their GM got busted for money laundering).

That shot of Raptor is hilarious. I can just hear the guy in my head saying "Hello my friends." -
I always thought the hair looked odd... but then 30 seconds later it was out of site, out of mind and I didn't care. I had heard the reason they are switching it now was because they had the money to do it and means to do it with the other Little Mermaid ride going in. If they were building another Indiana Jones ride right now, maybe they would do some updates there too. I just like to see when they improve things, whether it be a 1 year old ride or a 50 year old ride... It's cool they are looking at that kind of stuff.

Tallest coaster you've been on.

Both trains have the new lap-bar seat belt. When I was at the park on April 20, the blue train did not have this belt (Red was in the transfer station). Then when I went on April 28, both did. It absolutely murders throughput because people can barely fit. I watched 2 young teenage girls that each weighed maybe 95 pounds struggle to get the bar down far enough to buckle. I'm not sure if my seat had a slightly bigger belt, but no way I would have fit on the row they were in. I just barely got in on the one I rode (which is making me a little worried that I'm becoming a little Acer or something). I think it's time for CGA to buy new trains. On a side not, everyone was loving Grizzly; and honestly both times I've ridden this season, my rides were pretty enjoyable. The ride is still not overly thrilling, but it's been fun so far.

I remember a similar issue at SFDK. The city alerted the park that they were causing too much pollution in Lake Chabot. The park immediately made huge efforts to fix the problems before they got to the stage where there were fines. Problem solved. I can't imagine SFMM making that kind of effort... they have always been gross.
-
^ Exactly. Infact, Gerstlauer is a company that makes a ton of coasters that use base frames. They are typically more cost effective because they require little to no ground work. SFDK already has a huge concrete pad made for that type of ride, makes sense they keep buying rides that work on it. Btw I heard Superman's theoretical throughput from the manufacturer is 400pph... Generally, in my experience, parks average 60-75% of the theoretical so we are talking 250 to 300pph. could 2012 be a record setting year for Flash Pass sales at SFDK?
-
I have to say this because it is such a huge Pet Peeve for me. Base Frame does NOT mean the coaster is a portable. Portable coasters have easily movable components and are generally secured by bolts and cotter pins. Permanent coasters are held together with nuts and bolts, which secures them with the intention of being somewhere for a long time. Pandemonium was not a portable coaster either. Hell, even Zonga wasn't a portable coaster with all the modifications that were done to it.

There is only one thing about this article that I applaud and truly agree with down to my very core. That thing is the omission of Cedar Point (Fan boys attack in 3..2..1). I love that park and it's rides. They are thrilling and fun and some are the best there is, but none are particularly "scary." I agree with their selection of Intimidator 305. It's scary to look at and it backs that up by being damn intense (even if people want to cry about the trims). I think X2 could have been on there. As much as I hate SFMM and could care less about X2, it's pretty frightening for the GP. One of the Dive Machines would have been good too. After that I don't know. I don't find many coaster "scary."

Having been the supervisor of the go-karts at SFDK in the past. They make money. I would not count on ever seeing a coaster replace the go-karts they were moved to a new location to accommodate. Everyone has to understand that just because you don't care about a ride, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
