Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters
Double0Kevin replied to UrbanLegend's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At first I saw that red loop in the water and thought it was a Schwarzkopf that I didn't know about and I was gonna be so sad... Then I paid more attention and saw there wasn't much to cry about with that one. Bummer for the park though, that will be a tough one to recover from even with insurance. -
^I would stick with that knowledge. I've never known HiP to be that busy, even on Thanksgiving weekend. Holiday in the Park attracts a lot of families that skip the big thrill rides for family stuff like the snow hill and shows. It's not like the last weekend of FF where it's all ghetto gangbangers trying to cause problems. I miss the Santa movie in the 3D theater (I miss the 3D Theater in general), it was perfect for Holiday in the Park.

I consider myself a moderate DL Fanboy, and this just blows me away. Earl of Sandwich has been blown up for months as this amazing food location and much needed at the DLR. DLR easily has some of the best food options I've ever seen at any theme park (I haven't been to WDW so don't get on me about Epcot having better food) so I don't get why EoS was so needed and why it's such a big deal to the extreme fanboys. Don't get me wrong, I hear they are great and it's cool Disney is adding to DTD, but it's not like we couldn't find great food already.

Outside of theme parks, I think this will finally open up the Star Wars and Indiana Jones worlds to new thinkers and we won't get crap like the prequels and Crystal Skull. I wonder if Disney, with their ride to movie obsession, will make a Temple of the Forbidden Eye movie. As for parks, I see WDW benefiting more from this at the get go. DHS could go with a total SW land rather than Cars (Booster Bike themed to the forest speeders anyone?) and even expand the Indiana Jones offerings around the stunt show. DL should stick with Marvel since they can't get those franchises into the Florida Parks and it lets different attractions drive attendance on both coasts.

No offense, but what were you expecting? It was the Saturday before Halloween. It's easily one of the busiest weekend of the year with Fright Fest going on. Holiday in the park is usually not too busy at all. I've been on weekends and weekdays (as well as worked there for the first 2 seasons of the event) and the lines are always very manageable (max wait is like 15-20 mins for a major). The week after Christmas is especially slow. And the NYE event is a great, safe event if you are interested in that.

Best And Worst Coaster In California
Double0Kevin replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best Steel: Tie between Tatsu and Superman Ultimate Flight Worst Steel: Kong (and sadly it's the best SLC I've been on) Best Wood: Giant Dipper @ SCBB Worst Wood: Grizzly (but honestly I like all the woodies in CA, Grizzly is just the tamest of the bunch). This topic is making me come to the sad realization that CA is full of mediocre coasters, nothing great (X2 is overrated) but nothing overly terrible. I guess I always knew... but i just didn't want to admit it. -
^I only say that cause I like the Indiana Jones Trilogy (there was a 4th one?) better than the Cars films. I agree with the overall environment being the main attraction and overshadowing RSR though. Also, RSR is great, but I haven't had a chance to really appreciate it since the lines are always so long that I've only gotten a few rides in. As time goes on and the lines calm down I think people will talk about it more... maybe. Well... I mean... come on. I'm a Disneyland Fan Boy, and even I have to admit disappointment on that one. And, I haven't even been on Good Tower to compare them.

TPR Cruises the Disney Fantasy!
Double0Kevin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ya know, I read the caption 3 times to be sure and searched the photo, but I just cannot see Chip and Dale in that picture of Elissa. Am I missing something? -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Double0Kevin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's been 6 years since I've been to HW so things may have changed (and sorry if this was already answered, I didn't see it), but isn't Splashin' Safari free admission once you are in Holiday World? What is the concern about Pilgrim's Plunge if it moves into Splashin Safari, won't you still be able to access it? I'm not a fan of water parks (though I know many are so I see no issue when parks add to them) so I didn't visit Safari when I was there and don't know what rules they have for it. -
^Well because obviously no one from Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville and everywhere in between that go to WDW multiple times a year would appreciate this stuff like someone for Southern California. WDW is too focused on tourists unlike DLR which obviously is only there for Fan Boys. /sarcasm I think this is a pretty interesting idea. I think it will come down to how well it's executed obviously. But I think if they pull it off it will create a special memory for people who get to experience it.

This makes me more and more excited for my first WDW visit in just over a month. They did a great job with the new attractions. I had said previously that the queue didn't really matter to me for Mermaid as I thought the ride made the argument for itself alone, but now that I see more details about it I feel like I stand corrected. The queue really adds a lot to it. I still love the look of DCA's but WDW's version looks to provide a much more immersive experience, and it just looks amazing.

No they don't. Fright Fest hours ARE the park hours. Fright Fest is not a separate admission event like Haunt, they have stuff going on all day. Haunted Houses typically open starting at 5. They all have different opening times typically. The short Fridays have FF stuff too. They've been doing that since at least 2003. I remember getting out of school and going straight to work for those.

Ugh... Some Disney fans make the rest of us look like total assholes. I think Florida's looks great. The ride is awesome, it's a must ride every time I'm at DCA. I think both parks look great on the outside. Imagineers designed both to fit in with the intended theme of their respective lands. Yes, the Florida version's queue is a bit more fun to look at, but it's not like DCA's destroys the ride. When it comes down to it, it's the ride that makes or breaks the whole thing. Mermaid is a solid ride and I'm glad people in Florida get to experience it now.

I'm more prone to downloads and streams now-a-days. Mostly because I like to just pull it up whenever on my laptop/Apple TV/iPhone and watch what I want right then and then on to the next thing. Discs (BR or DVD) make it more of an event and I don't tend to watch more than once. The ability to download on iTunes is like a godsend to me, so easy to purchase and share among my devices.

It's not a bad source of info, they are just a bit overzealous in their reporting. Very hardcore fanboys, if you will. This week's update includes a comparison of how the temporary streetlamp poles (to hold holiday decorations) in Cars Land are fixed to the ground as distinct from the permanent ones. Thrilling stuff. I agree with this. They provide some pretty decent and often accurate information, but you have to filter the overreactions they have to little things. I've seen people make claims that Mermaid ruined the look of the park because it wasn't perfectly centered (off about a foot or 2) and that "Mad T Party" was using code to promote drug use. They also like to get upset at little things like an anamatronic or 2 out of whack on a ride (see Splash Mountain). Other than those annoyances to people like me who accept that Disneyland is a theme park and sometimes things break, they are a pretty decent Disney site. Over to the Gardenwalk talk. I'm curious if Disney not buying it tells us something about their interest in expanding the resort that way. Could this mean they aren't looking to build the rumored 3rd park anytime soon? Or maybe they just didn't want to take the loss over the next 5+ years before a new park/hotels are built and there is still limited interest in the center. I hope the new investor can turn it around. I think it's a great center, but I don't find myself drawn over to it often.

Was Six Flags Amercia a bad idea?
Double0Kevin replied to Mean Streak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^YES! This is what I thought of when I saw it too. -
Was Six Flags Amercia a bad idea?
Double0Kevin replied to Mean Streak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Typical "if it's not a coaster it's nothing" mentality. SFDK got Zonga on '03, Shouka in '04, Ocean Discovery in '05, Tava's Jungleland in '06, Rebrand and Thomas in '07 and then Tony Hawk in '08. All significant investments that attracted families that bring in money. How was that park a bad idea again? -

This whole topic is making me cringe. Why wasn't this just posted in the SFA Discussion thread? -

They've been posting construction photos on their Facebook page all day, so I'd say this is happening. https://www.facebook.com/WetnWildLasVegas
