I'm actually surprised at the reaction to Wall Street as I don't see as much concern as Wall Street and some fans think. Here's why: - They are wrapping on a very strong Q1/Q2 in 2017. They stated Kings Island had record April and May last year in prior earnings call. Without a new ride it will be tough to wrap on that. Sure you had new ride at KD for the whole quarter but it had problems and bad press. And KD doesn't do the numbers KI does. - RailBlazer just opened. - Weather. Yeah, its the "easy" excuse. But let's not forget the horrible cold & wet start to season Kings Dominion had. I believe there was some earlier closings in there due to that. Same with Carowinds and Kings Island in April. Also, Memorial Day was quite rainy for a better part of the east coast. - Not wrapping on same for same hotels. Sandcastle Suites is gone. Sure last year Breakers was missing the smaller Bon Air wing, but not have 170+ rooms at CP suites prices does hurt the bottom line. I believe average daily rate was around 200-400 a room vs. Bon Air which was usually under 200/250. - Steel Vengeance. The crash, the closures, the issues, etc were all over the news in the core markets. Detroit TV stations were even running stories the one day it closed for testing in late May. But mainly I think it pushed people to later in season. Also look at the Frontier Hoedown they did. That likely didn't count as gate clicks - if you didn't have the event that's probably 10-15k more in attendance you would've saw in the first few weeks. I know several people with passes that went to that, then didn't go again for another month or so. Also, you lost all that easy FastLane+ revenue for a few weeks. Someday I'd love to try to do a deep dive into the impact of sports team on attendance. No surprise one of the best years for regional parks was '94 when MLB was on strike. May seem like a stretch to say KD and CP lost entertainment dollars (or even days from people wanting to stay home and watch games) due to playoff runs. Kings Island's GM confirmed last year's number was much higher than what was reported by TEA. I believe by about 300k - 2017 was their best year since the record year like 20 years back (again according to the GM). I know I did the Hoedown then went to Kings Island for Memorial Day. Skipping Cedar Point until late June. Normally I have a few Cedar Point visits in by then. If the sports theory is true, Kennywood/Sandcastle should be picking up, especially with the new revamps next year. Pirates attendance is less than half of what it was 3 years ago. I don't think that's unreasonable either... on the Penguins SCF runs the past 2 years, I worked my park visits around the Playoff schedule. This year, I added Dorney in with the early exit and a few extra days at Kings Island.

It's a great park. Waterpark included. Ravine Flyer is a top 5 woodie for me. They are one great coaster (which should be coming in next few years) away from being can't miss.

I agree with you on this. I had made my first visit to Darien Lake and the other two Western New York amusement parks last August and I found Mind Eraser to be more enjoyable than Flight Deck at my home park, Canada's Wonderland. Keep in mind though that the Mind Eraser at Darien Lake is slightly newer by two years (1997) than Flight Deck (1995) at Canada's Wonderland, so the design of the coasters could have possibly changed slightly to provided a smoother ride within that time. Probably likely that CW's has been run a lot harder than DL's. Factoring in two trains, longer operating schedule... etc. Flight Deck may have given twice as many rides in the same period.

Let's hope more SLCs go through what Morey's just did, which really was a different experience. I do think Darien's wasn't as bad as the worst I rode, which is CW's. Couldn't wait to get off of it. Michigan's Adventure wasn't bad either. Can't remember what others ones I got on.

We are definitely going to do Maid of the Mist. If the ROS blows the SFA one away then we would definitely ride it. We actually have two flex days built in to this trip for things other than coasters or stay an extra day at a park if we need. This trip has two full days at KI and two and a half at CP with FL+ budgeted for every day if need be. I guess we could probably just ride Predator last. I watched a Moose on the Loose POV. Looks pretty rough, very shaky. It looks like we can get out-of -state tickets for 19.99 for Fantasy Island. I guess that might not be so bad if the coaster is really good and we can get several laps in on it. I wish all the smaller parks would offer per-ride tickets. Moose on the Loose isn't rough. Quite enjoyable, it does get busy though and the safety checks do slow down Ride Ops, no fault of theirs. I enjoyed the ROS at DL. Never been to SFA. The worst SLC is at Canada's Wonderland. Darien Lake's is better than that. Predator might be rough, but it's not boring IMO. MotoCoaster is fun. I'm a fan of Viper, one of the better Arrows IMO. I would say Darien Lake would be worth your 4 hours.

I remember that 1.5 million number was on Wikipedia last year before I took my first trip to Darien Lake in August 2017. Not saying it's wrong, but it's the same.

Have they actually sold anything yet though? Those rides weren't not in any condition other than... needing refurbishment.

What about Mind Eraser? Has Motocoaster's second train only been used for one year? That seems like a big waste of money.

There is no time table at this point for when the park will reopen its gates. Albarano says that best for the community and for the park to do so as soon as possible. Not thrilled with this unless another coaster takes it's place in 2019. Why can this coaster exist at Kings Island and not Dorney if it's strictly maintenance? Surely they use the same parts.

Would be in for a Winterfest at Dorney. That could be good, their halloween event is great.

I was there last weekend everything was packed. Hour wait for any Maze, Hour+ for Phantom, 45 for Thunderbolt.

Does anyone know why the Bat's path is the way it is? There was even less back there when it was built.

In my first two ever visits to the park, on August 20th and August 21, there was a line even for the Arrow, Viper, at 11 AM. Park opened at 10 AM Monday morning and there was about a 45 minute wait for the Motocoaster as well.. I was surprised after seeing this park get slammed on this forum so much that the park was packed in very late August.
