Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

In the past it has been The Boss and Screamin' Eagle. The Boss is automatic because it's just unlikely to be warm enough to run it. I'd love to see Eagle open somehow though. -

My big question is how SFStL will do Christmas (yes you can say Christmas - there's no War on Christmas ™) shows. It looks like they're setting up for The Palace light show, and that's where they've been doing all entertainment this year. Maybe Old Glory will see its first butts in a year and a half? -

Oh missed a little tidbit that really doesn't matter since we already know they're doing HITP. But the setup for that is underway. Meaningless, but I like seeing it anyway -

Visited Hallowfest 10/11. The third reservation 'sell out'. Most of the lines were very reasonable - Eagle is back to two train ops. But Mr Freeze had the limited capacity sign out - and indeed seemed to be one running one train. Disappointing - two switchbacks were in use so that wait had to have been hell. The new LED lighting in the entry plaza and in the DC Comics area has color overlays installed. The park is continuing to pour new concrete around the entrance. This in front of the Flash Pass stand (the old path was in really bad shape right here). The scare actors are in the zones all day. They're all set up like this to be a bit more like a set rather than a place for them to hide and jump out as you walk through. Bone Jovi The troll area is a family-friendly walkthrough now. They slide a treat down a tube for kids at the end. The spider web area has been moved to the two tunnels since Blind Fury isn't there. Really like this. This is what they've done with the area where spiders used to be. Oh Yeah. Justice League is open. The queue feeds in through the emergency exit at the end of the long corridor right now. Even with fewer scare zones set up there's a good amount of fog being thrown throughout the park. Just a bit less than usual back by Boss and the Illinois section. The Scareacha wings are included on the meal pass - no upcharge. Spicier than I expected too. And if you want the skull mug the non-alcoholic grape drink is the only way to get it - though for families that want it this is probably better than making an alcoholic beverage the only way to get it. It'd probably just be better to make it an upcharge for any beverage though,. -

Yeah you can see why it's the kind of thing Six Flags doesn't do often. A ton of labor involved. Makes you appreciate places that do it way more often. Then again it wouldn't be near as intensive if you did it before they fall apart. -

That only makes sense if your getting income from being open. -

Unless the earnings reports end up saying differently. True. But I'd think there's a reason they waited to announce both Hallowfest and HITP. They have the numbers already. -

Yep. Cedar Fair is closing all but their biggest parks on Labor Day. And even the ones staying open are getting a significantly smaller fall event. And Winterfest is cancelled period. Six Flags is managing to basically have a full Fright Fest minus only the haunted houses. AND is still doing their winter event everywhere they'd already rolled it out to before. None of the parks are ending their season before they ordinarily would. Six Flags is handling this better. Hands down. -

It's part of Fright Fest, but chances are you'll probably really die from it. Generally face mask use doesn't change in indoor queues in my experience, but distance is less of a sure thing - probably a result of people trying to stay out of the sun. It's an additional argument for adding shade in the park. -

It sounds like they're doing an event that retains more of the original experience than Cedar Fair. I like it. Also our best chance for real night rides at SFSL. Edit: Scare zone decoration storage boxes are being moved into their positions. The troll boxes are sitting next to Colossus now. -

I'm genuinely impressed that they renovated that little stand for displaying a carousel horse. That's not a usual Six Flags move. -

How much time has Eagle spent with single train ops this year? I don't think I've seen the red train running. Has anyone else? -

I was in the park again today. Got a more complete walk around. Grabbed a photo or two I missed the first time as well. The Illinois Primo's appears to have finally accepted reality and is officially no more. I already posted a pic of the carousel with horses removed for renovation. They actually have a sign up that I missed. Dragon's Wing had a portion of its tent removed and all new fencing lining the paths to the lifts. Also, the unfinished Catwoman entrance. For some reason the structure that used to house the guess your weight game by the carousel is getting TLC. Miss Kitty's Saloon is an indoor mask break zone/cooling center. Really good place for it at the center of the park. JB's has a brand new half-wall between the dining space and the soda machines/pickup window. Mobile pickup signage has been added. I hadn't walked by the DC bathroom my first time in the park. I got a photo of the new façade. Not finished yet but really matches the Justice League look. Final observation on that last photo. Yes, it looks like all of the gaslight fixtures are getting replaced with the new LED ones. I only saw these in the new entrance before, but now you see them inside the park and only a few original gaslights are left. -

Frankly I find our Boomerang to have one of the most visually appealing locations of any. And it really doesn't impact the view of Eagle much at all. Although I can certainly understand opinions vary on color schemes (this is always true, even when it comes to namtaB). -

I personally did not feel comfortable in Mr. Freeze's queue line (an enclosed hallway where everyone was crowding and removing their mask since it was out-of-sight from employees). If that scenario makes you uncomfortable, I would recommend the Flash Pass based on that alone. People would be doing this far less at Freeze if the HVAC still worked. As it is now the air is hot and stagnant. I'd almost prefer it if the station were converted to open-air like Joker's Jinx/Poltergeist. But I'm not sure the components would work well outside of their current environment. -

You know what's wild? In Asia people will voluntarily wear masks if they believe they can get someone else sick. Caring about the well-being of others - crazy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -

Good they definitely had to do something about Thunder. It is already not great capacity. Cutting the train in half, then further only running it half the cycles was insanity. -

Boss can't be cycled empty. Empty trains cannot compete the course. I thought I've seen empty trains run after a short stoppage. -

It depends on the ride. Most of the flats aren't too bad IMO as long as they're trying to be quick about it. American Thunder is a low capacity coaster as it is. And they're cutting that to 25% of normal with the current cleaning cycle. So even with distanced lines you're not going to get to the station as fast as you'd think. I really hope the drying cycle is eliminated. I didn't get wet or icky from them just spraying The Boss and letting us straight on. PS: While Six Flags is currently not doing virtual queues for all they DID have a long survey about virtual queuing using the app. So they're definitely considering it. -

If every coaster was being run the way The Boss was yesterday the spraydown would be a non-issue. Some of the ride ops have already gotten good and fast at wiping things down too (I suppose the sprayers aren't as effective in some cases). I watched one girl wipe down 18 of the 24 restraints on Supergirl while the guy working the other side did 6. There's hope. But man the rides that are slow are REALLY slow. -

A coaster is definitely happening sooner than 5 years. It's already been 7 years since Boomerang. -

I made it in to the park today. The new sign in the new entrance is way bigger than I thought it would be. You go through temperature screening on the right before going through security on the left. The new metal detectors are wonderful. Also the toy store has been replaced with a candy store. The carousel is getting refurbished. Operations on The Boss and the flats aren't too bad. But here's a video from American Thunder. A minute and a half to prepare to run empty and sanitize - the line moved like molasses. The Boss wasn't being run empty to dry but Thunder was. Log Flume was run empty to dry, but not Thunder River. It isn't consistent. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
