Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
RollerManic replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think Cedar Fair is the right one. KD hasn't fluxed in (its high) attendence and so there is no need for another major investment. No reason to pile more mobey ontop of money. They're using KD to support other parks. Okay, so yes, the $50 mil promised for CanW and CaroW is more that ridiculous... but CF is going to be giving several small parks next year major investments. Because of this, I can care less about their spendings. The only people wrong here are the local enthusiasts. There is no such NEED. An enthusiast views his needs differently. Rather than what they have / dont have in terms of selection (and mind me, KD is very well off /rounded), they hold the park to investing in any such [significant] coaster periodically. To them, its all about consistent (over years) new rides, but to the park, its an attendence numbers game. There is no need, just simply want. -
So does that also means that cars should be outlawed because a driver who has had no previous signs of heart disease suddenly has a heart attack, dies behind the wheel, and accidentally kills pedestrians? And so it's the park's fault for the guest having a pre existing health condition? It has been determined that REVOLUTION WAS NOT AT FAULT, the girl had a previous, apparently unknown health condition that lead to her unfortunate death... NOT because the ride caused it. It's tragic and unfortunate and there was nothing anyone could have done about it. For all anyone knows she could have dropped dead in the car on the way there. I am going to expand on your driving example, since driving is not designed for high g-forces. Roller coasters exert forces onto the body, and who says that that did not AGGRAVATE (not originate the problem) of the previous condition. However, the rider still is at blame for participating, and unfortunately she passed away. None of this is to say that Revolution and her condition conflicted at all (which if they did would again be her risk/fault), and that the condition would have lead to her untimely death anyway, with or without riding the Revolution. Back to the driving: So you have a genetic panic disorder of some sort and someone cuts in front of you. You panic and lose control if the vehicle, crashing yourself but not hurting the other. Who is to blame? The driver assumed the risk of driving with his condition, and the pedestrian should nit have crossed. Either way, the car isn't to blame. Wrapping up: Revolution COULD have aggravated her problem (depending on the medical-condition), but even if, she still (knowingly?) took the risk of riding the ride. Revolution would not be to blame in any case. My prayers go to her family.

Oh, I have no clue, but SFStL is more marketable (inside a better region, and actually seeing dome tough competition in the Midwest lately) and owns sooo many acres East of the park. I dont feel like drawing a map, but lets just say employees are allowed to hunt there over the offseason... Yeah. -

It may seem that way, but look at SFSTL vs SFMM. I'd take a somewhat boring Cedar Fair park over a run down looking Six Flags park. Trust me... if you have a corporate park in your area, you don't want it to be Six Flags. The hair gel advertisements and other XXXTREEEMMEEE advertisements paired with blaring Katy Perry music in a run down candy/Dorito shop just screams "Come enjoy our teenage paradise while you get piss poor service from our 'I'm too apathetic to care about anything' staff." Six Flags really knows how to turn a great collection of rides into a bad experience. Adding to this: Six Flags still (has) and sometimes spends a lot more on their major parks vs. their smaller ones anually (obvious as to why). But it comes to a point where they blow off those small parks, like the Larson Super Loop marketed as coasters, or relocating a 25 year old operating boomerang to another park. Cedar Fair atleast doesnt spend major capitial year after year on those same parks (for example KD: last coaster was in 2010). I think WoF is going to get their time soon. Also a few small Cedar Fair parks have hypers, which IMO is a lot for a small park to say. But realistically the bigger parks are going to see more expensive investments and more often. -

^^Yeah, certainly it wouldn't, but thats not helping any for SFA. Nobody knows if they will, but a zero-g stall could be placed on the first hill theoretically, and IMO that would be pretty predictable and better as a new element. I think that the zero-g stall (in a good way) is becoming RMC's staple. Maybe RMC flows so well that you think you can expect whats next, but then again its not. Another thing a bout Roar is all the twisties at the bottom, although its not impossible to make some of those hills, see NTAG.

I'll stand corrected: I emailed Lance and he brought up a good point that a surveyor wouldn't really be needed for a GR retracking, but he seems on the same page as me that it may still pop up later this year or next year as a minor project (in terms of work compared to two Iron Horses and a custom Topper Tracker, yes). Anybody think they'll ship SFDK' MF over to SFA?

Ok. You guys can bash me all you like, but I'm not interested in the ride how I am imagining it. When I imagine it, I look at possible elements and RMC's previous works. The options I foresee lack large, sole airtime hills - which would be sort of true (without adding on a lot of structure) because half of he ride is low to the ground twists. However, nobody knows the layout, so no one can say anything definitive about the ride, including good. Everything now is pure speculation. It's not that I don't trust Alan Schlike or that he couldn't put airtime into those turns like on Wicked Cyclone. Im just not interested in Roar but the announcement could change this. And weren't there several people excited for this as (only hopefully) NorCal's airtime machine? Thats the same thing I want out of it - while I am dreading a bunch of inversions. How many RMCs dont have inversions? They're beautiful but are becoming a bit overdone and I am simply wishing for something along the lines of NTAG. To put this all short: At announcement, if it has a ton of inversions or nothing rather unique to RMC, I am not going to be excited, but if it has a very large focus on airtime, with a large ejector hill, then I'm all in. Besides, it has been a while since we have seen a large (think Intamin pre-fab) ejector hill on an RMC.

Problem is, a lot of people bring famalies. I, for one, have rarely visited a themepark without my family, and same with my friends. They do have the Marine shows around, meaning that they probably still target families. You alone (or any enthusiast) dont make a dent in the attendence. I just watched the Roar pov. Considering Six Flags will probably Wicked-Cyclone that first hill, and make it a stall, I have no interest in RMC Roar. An ejector hill there would be amazing.

Oops. I forgot. The retracking was directed at Apocalypse or Ghostrider. A lot of people want a moibus loop on TT, but theyre forgetting that the pre-lifts are entirely mirrored /opposite to each other (with no way to take the turn at any substantial speed), hence the facing lifts. What color was the steel spotted on site? EDIT: Nevermind, I see the helix at the base of the front lift. I would rather see a station flyby worked in.
-
I know. Nobody of RMC has made any statement about SFDK though, to make that clear. What I am saying is that *possibly* only two of these are the "projects" Alan has been talking about, and the last (CA) is simply a minor retracking. What kind of entitlement do enthusiasts have to think Alan isn't summarizing? I would assume that when Alan says "three", he really is saying "pretty much-". In fact, that how I take every "[so-so] said this" sort of thing. I could see RMC doing sone other retracking (even traditional retracking) later this year. I do wonder why Roar East us not done first. Maybe transportation costs? The older, worse, and PTC trains of the two. In fact, I foresee SFDK shipping their Millennium Flyers over to SFA.
