Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I'd love to see a water coaster at Hershey. I just got back from Dollywood and the water coaster at Splash Country was incredible! It shot you up faster on the uphill sections than you slid on the downhill sections and you actually got airtime in a few spots. I haven't been to Holiday World, but the DW water coaster uses a similar magnetic propulsion system. I don't know where they'd put it, but it would be a huge hit for the park. -

We did the same. . . That being said it is rescheduled for the end of this month! (Still not overly confident that LR will be open. But I sure feel like we have a better chance this year than we would have had last year.) We visited DW for the first time June 26-30 and had pretty good luck with LR. It opened with the park or soon thereafter every day and had minimal downtime. When it did go down, it wasn't down for long (only about 30 min or so). They were only running one train, but I'd rather have consistent ops with one train than lots of downtime with two. It really is a fantastic coaster and I was able to get in about 20 rides during our visit, so hopefully you'll have the same luck on your visit. -
I couldn't agree more with this statement! USO/IOA has more than enough dark/screen rides. The Dragons are two of my favorite inverts and there's rarely long lines for them. I'm headed to the parks in August to check out Volcano Bay and the new stuff (Kong, Fallon), so I will be sure to get plenty of rides on them in case the rumors turn out to be true.

There site says "Limited to one ride per person" for LR and Drop Line but when I was there last week that rule didn't seem to apply to the unlimited.. The unlimited passes which is basically just a lanyard was all that the guest were showing to get on.. I know some folks had ridden it multiple times with their lanyard or so they said IDK, I have never purchased one, I'm just confirming that it has been slowing down the regular line drastically like DJKnox said lol Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk DW sells two types of Time Savers: Regular and Unlimited. The regular Time Saver allows you to skip 10 lines during the day, but you are limited to one skip each for LR and Dropline. The regular Time Savers are the ones that you get for free if your stay at the DreamMore Resort. Dollywood also sells an Unlimited Time Saver, but they limit the amount of the Unlimiteds they sell each day. (I don't know what that number is though.) We just got back from our DW visit and we got to ride LR 2-3 times a day. We stayed at the DreamMore, so we got the regular Time Saver every day (and you get one for each person in the room). Our strategy was to get to the park 20-30 min early (they let you in early) and then get into the LR queue. LR opened with the park each day or shortly after opening. We would usually ride twice at opening and then come back later in the day with our Time Saver. Most of the rides were pretty much walk-ons last week, so I don't think we used all of our 10 skips any day. The only rides we really needed the Time Saver for was LR, Dropline, Fire Chaser, and Mystery Mine. Once I catch up at work, I plan on doing a longer trip report. -

Yep, it definitely looks like an addition to the water park. The park could really use another slide tower as there are currently only six slides and the lines get pretty long. I'd love to see them install a tower similar to what Cedar Fair has been putting in their parks with multiple drop capsule slides and a couple of tube slides. This tower was installed at Knott's and Cedar Point this year -

It seems that nearly all the queue will be indoors given the location of the station relative to the hill and the four levels of windows that you see on it. Just how much theming will be in it is my question but more importantly even with long waits it'll have AC. That could definitely be the reason for the huge station building. The Lightning Rod queue is pretty much all indoors (with fans, not AC though), but it still made the line a lot more bearable during hot days. -

These are my feelings as well. I get how some people could be turned off by the intensity of the ride, but I just love it. I haven't ridden another coaster where I actually feel like I'm going to get thrown off the train. The crazy ejector air and the balls to the wall insanity of it all leaves me with a smile on my face every time! -
That wouldn't be my first choice, but I definitely wouldn't hate it. Mystery Mine at Dollywood is a fantastic ride and a bigger version of that would be a lot of fun. The capacity isn't bad either if they run it like Dollywood does (dual loading platform running 6 trains at a time). It would be the first one on the West Coast and the vertical lift is a real attention grabber. I'd still much rather see Knott's get a B&M dive coaster or an Intamin Mega-lite, but it doesn't sound like either of those are going to happen.
-
Exactly, as an enthusiast I'd love to see Six Flags go back into big spending mode but I just don't see that happening. They haven't purchased a B&M since X-Flight in 2012 and the last coaster that wasn't a RMC-makeover or S&S Free Spin was Fu11 Throttle in 2013. They seem to be content doing smaller annual updates and putting the same rides in every park.
-
I've always enjoyed Goliath and it's my 4th favorite ride at the park after X2, TC, and Tatsu. Sure, it's not as good as a B&M or Intamin hyper, but it's still fun. It's fast, super smooth, and it's got a huge floater airtime hill. And I don't know how anyone calls it forceless, I grey out in the helix almost every time I ride it.
-
I believe the upcharge is $15 per X2 reservation. Rather than pay that though, just head to X2 at opening and you won't wait very long. Recently, they've had FP vendors out in the entry plaza, so you could get your FP before you even enter the park. If not, just head straight to X2 then come back down the hill and grab your FP. You don't get a Superman reservation with the Gold FP, so just wait to ride it until the end of the day. Superman is usually pretty dead the last 30-45 minutes before closing and I can usually get 2-3 rides in during that time.

Wow, it's hard to believe that Xcelerator is 15 years old! I think it still runs great and it's pretty reliable for an Intamin. I just wish they had built a dual loading platform like the other accelerator coasters, but at least the ops on it are usually pretty good. Plus they've been running two trains lately, which helps a bit.
-
The Raptor capacity wouldn't be too bad if they have a dual loading platform (like TTD or Maverick) and run 4 trains at a time. Nobody will confuse it for a B&M, but a dual loading platform running 4 trains would keep the line moving fairly well. If Knott's gets the rumored Gerstlauer, I hope they build a dual loading platform there as well.
-
If they do go with something similar to Monster, I just hope they build a dual-loading platform like TTD or Maverick and that they run 4 trains at a time. The Infinity coasters do look like a lot of fun, but they aren't know for their capacity. Gerstlauer certainly would fit the "renewed relationship" that Ouimet was referring to and a vertical lift hill would be a first for SoCal. Also, Screamscape just posted that they are hearing that Knott's new coaster is going to be a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster project. If this is the case, I'd like to see Knott's get a larger model with a 200ft or so drop.

When I was there Monday, the sign was still in front of the ride. I have a feeling that RMC is still tweaking it to get it back up to full speed. I'm just glad it's back up and running somewhat regularly. We're visiting DW next week for the first time and I can't wait to ride this bad boy! Also, if anyone has show or food recommendations, feel free to share them. And yes, I already know about the cinnamon bread! -

I second the Spring Creek Smokehouse, the food is pretty good and the portions are big. Plus, they usually have live entertainment while you eat. And make sure you try the Smores Cobbler, it's amazing! -
200lbs does seem like a ridiculously low weight limit for a water slide. We have a drop capsule slide at Cowabunga Bay here in Vegas and the weight limit is 260lbs. However, Cowabunga Bay does have scales at the top of all the slides, so I don't find that very unusual. But I've never seen a 200lb weight limit on any water slide at the dozen or so waterparks I've visited.

No kidding, I will be there from June 25-30th, so hopefully those wait times stay that way! -
Agreed, I don't think it's Boomerang or an Intamin Impulse simply because SFDK already has those rides. It's clear from the CGA Master Plan that CF wants to really invest in this park and make it the premier park in NorCal. They've definitely got some work to do as SFDK has passed it up with all their new additions (Superman, Joker, Wonder Woman, etc). That's why I think this coaster is going to be something new (to the region at least) and unique that will make people want to visit CGA.
