No, I'm pretty sure this will be a new model that is actually swings all the way up to 172ft. The model going into SFNE is the 147ft model, and all of the info coming out specifically says that this will be the world's tallest pendulum ride. I don't think they could make that claim if it was simply the 147ft model that they put on the side of a hill. But then again, SF claims that Super Loops are coasters, so it wouldn't be the first time their marketing dept. pulled a fast one on us.

Well, it's not a water coaster, but Typhoon Twister is probably the best non-water coaster slide they could've added to the park. It combines two of my favorite water slide elements (bowl and half-pipe) and looks like a lot of fun. It's just too bad that they didn't add a conveyor belt so you don't have to lug those huge rafts up 5 flights of stairs. The coaster drought continues but I really think the park will get a Free Fly or a Raptor in the next few years. -
I think the SkyWarp looks like a lot of fun and I'm excited to give it a try. It's nice to see SF putting another world's first ride at SFDK. The park got the first Sky Rocket II back in 2012 and now they are getting the first SkyWarp. I have to say that SF has done a great job with the additions at this park over the last 5-6 years and has really turned it into the premier park in NorCal. With the big plans that CF has in store for CGA, hopefully we'll continue to see big additions to SFDK.

This is a great addition for SFMM and definitely better than a Star Flyer. These giant pendulum rides are my favorite flat rides (along with drop towers) and the height/speed of this one looks incredible. Well done SFMM, I will be taking advantage of the park being open 365 days next year, that's for sure!

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that the TMLR was "poorly maintained." Now there may be a valid issue if a water level sensor was not working correctly and there was not enough water at the bottom of the drop. However, I still don't know how that would cause you to slam your face into the seat in front of you if you are seated properly. I just hope that this doesn't prompt CA to require seat belts or something stupid like that on log rides.

At some point, SFStL is going to get a new coaster. It probably won't be a $20 million B&M (SF isn't putting those in any of their parks right now, the last being X-Flight in 2012), but it will be something like a S&S Free Spin or the RMC Raptor. SFFT is also in a smaller market and is not a "destination park" but it has gotten both of these coasters in a 3 year period. The cost of these coasters is probably similar to the JL:BFM ride and SF was willing to make that kind of investment at SFStL. So if SFStL doesn't get a new coaster announced tomorrow, then it will probably get the Free Spin or Raptor in 2019 or 2020. -
That's correct, the email I got specifically said they are announcing a new ride on 8/31. In fact, the email said: August 31: Flash Sale & New Ride Announcement Mark your calendar! On August 31, 2017 we have a huge announcement about next year. We'll also be launching our once-a-year, five day sale on 2018 Season Passes. I don't think SFMM is getting a coaster in 2018 (although I'd love to see a dive or giga, maybe as a viper replacement), so my guess is a Star Flyer or giant pendulum like WW at SFDK.

Either one of these would be a great addition to the park. I would rather see the Free Spin but the water coaster would be a big hit and a major draw for the GP. I rode my first two electromagnetic water coasters this summer (RiverRush at DW and Krakatau at Volcano Bay) and they are fantastic rides. -
You'd think at some point that the smaller parks will get new coasters. I don't think that CF can just neglect them year over year and expect the masses to keep coming. CW is a different animal because it's in a huge market and they've made major additions there in the past. I would bet that CW gets a major addition in 2019, either a new coaster (it will have been 5 years since Guardian) or the long rumored hotel/resort. I do think 2019 will be a smaller year for CF just because they went so big in 2018. So maybe they just do the hotel/resort at CW and one new coaster at VF or MiA. If Railblazer is a big success at CGA, I could see CF putting it in the other small parks over the next few years.

FL Busch Parks or Bust
VegasBaby replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just returned from an Orlando trip a few weeks ago, so I'll share my experiences at SWO and BGT. We didn't buy the Quick Queue for either park, which was good since we really didn't need them. We took the free shuttle to BGT (picked us up at the Universal Citywalk bus area since we were staying at a Universal property) and it was a very easy experience. The bus was comfortable, had great AC, and they showed a movie on the way back. The shuttle got us to the park a few minutes after opening (not a big deal) and left at 7pm even though the park was open until 10pm that day (it was a Friday in early August). So if you want to stay later at BGT, you may need your own transportation back to Orlando. We went straight to Cheetah Hunt (about a 20 min wait) and then onto Cobra's Curse (45 min wait, our longest wait all day). Montu, Sheikra, and Kumba were walk ons all day, which blew my mind since those are my three favorite coasters at the park. Scorpion and Sand Serpent were about 10-15 min waits and Falcon's Fury was around 20 minutes. Since we had limited time, we just rode the coasters and FF. We hit Cobra again later in the day (only a 30 min wait around 5pm) and then finished the day with 3 rides on Cheetah Hunt. So our ride tally at BGT on a Friday in August from 10am to 7pm was: Cheetah Hunt 4x Cobra's Curse 2x Montu 4x Sheikra 4x Kumba 4x Falcon's Fury 2x Scorpion 1x Sand Serpent 1x We went to SWO on a Tuesday in August and took an Uber from our Universal hotel, which was very easy and pretty cheap. We got to the park a few minutes before opening and they let us right in. We hit Manta first because it was the first coaster you see and it was about a 5 min wait in the morning (did it twice and then once more in the afternoon). We then went to Kraken VR and the reservation system was broken, so they just let us get in line. The line was not very long, but it ended up taking 45 minutes since the VR loading takes forever. My kids and I didn't care for the VR (the headsets dug into your face due to the strong forces on the coaster), so I would suggest riding it without the VR. We then rode Atlantis (15 min wait) and headed to the back of the park for Mako. My kids and I were blown away by Mako and it instantly became my favorite B&M hyper. And the best part was that it was a walk-on around 10:30 in the morning. (Note that Mako opened at 10am even though the rest of the park opened at 9am). We got 4 rides in on Mako and got two more in the afternoon when it was about a 15 min wait. They do assign rows on Mako, but we asked for the back row every time and they accommodated our request. We also did the Penguin ride (15 min wait), Shamu Express (10 min wait) and the Shamu and Dolphin shows. It was very hot that day (around 95 with high humidity), so by 5pm we were all exhausted and ready to leave. We really enjoyed SWO and the coaster lines (other than Kraken VR) were very minimal. Our SWO ride and show count from 9am to 5pm was: Manta 3x Kraken 1x Atlantis 1x Penguin 1x Mako 6x Shamu Express 1x Shamu Show 1x Dolphin Show 1x -
All of the other theme parks in SoCal are open year round, so hopefully this will work out for SFMM. For myself, I will be visiting a lot more in 2018 because I expect the park to be dead on school days. I love going to Knott's in the Spring and Fall when school is in, so now I'm going to have to include SFMM in my visits. The key for them will be publicizing the fact that they are open year round as visitors are not used to the park being open in the off-season.

Top/Favorite Hyper Coasters
VegasBaby replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My top 2 are the same for pretty much the same reasons. Don't get me wrong, I like the balls to the wall intensity of Skyrush, but Superman:TR has a better overall layout and is much more re-rideable. My #3 is Mako, which just blew me away when I rode it a few weeks ago. The airtime was a lot stronger than I was expecting and there was so much of it. It's definitely the best B&M hyper I've ridden and makes SWO a must visit in Orlando. I've got a lot of love for AC too as I've always had great rides on it. 1) Superman: The Ride 2) Skyrush 3) Mako 4) Apollo's Chariot 5) Raging Bull 6) Magnum XL-200 7) Goliath (SFMM) 8) Desperado -
Since they now have 3 trains for SB, there's no excuse to only run one train on it. So weird to see two trains sitting on the transfer track when there was a 30 min wait on the ride. I wonder if they were short staffed that day or something. The Xcelerator closure continues to be a mystery. It was running great earlier in the year and it was nice see them consistently running two trains on it. I sure hope they get it fixed soon. I want to visit again now that most kids are back in school, but I'm holding off until Xcelerator opens back up.

So glad that River Battle is getting removed and DDF is staying. DDF is a killer water ride and we rode it every day of our visit this summer. We rode River Battle once and got completely soaked, which wasn't terrible since it was a really hot day. But RB never had a line and a lot of the boats were going out empty. It also takes up a good chunk of land, so I'm interested to see what they are going to put in to replace it. -
This is great suggestion and if you can go to the promo shoot, I'd highly recommend it. I was able to go to the Twisted Colossus shoot for two days and it was awesome. I got about 20-25 rides in each day of the shoot. They gave us free park tickets along with breakfast and lunch, so they really took care of us. Plus I got to hang out with a bunch of cool coaster enthusiasts!
-
Look, Knott's is getting something big and it's going to be a coaster. They wouldn't have removed a popular coaster (with the GP at least) unless something bigger and better is going to take its place. Plus, they wouldn't be doing a big media event just to announce a few flats. Thankfully we'll know all the facts tomorrow and whose "sources" were actually real. My money is on a Gerstlauer Infinity coaster and a grand reopening of the Sky Tower.

If a ride is down, then it won't let you make a reservation for it. When rides come back online your qbot buzzes to let you know. And yes, single ride does mean single reservation. X2 has decent capacity when running two trains but it's still extremely popular, so you may have any argument for limiting FPs (although Gold should get a free reservation too, IMO). But TC is two years old and almost always runs three trains, so the capacity argument doesn't hold water. It almost always has shorter lines than Tatsu, yet Tatsu is unlimited on the FP and TC is still limited to a single reservation. You just don't get the same value out of the FPs at SFMM that you do at SFGAm/SFGAdv or any of the CF parks.
-
I'll try to answer these for you: 1) There is a separate line for people who've purchased the FP online, so the wait should be minimal to pick it up (5-10 minutes). I've noticed this summer that there have been FP reps in the entrance plaza, so you may be able to pick it up before the park opens. 2) The FP center opens with the park and stays open after park closing time. 3) You don't have to make reservations for a specific time, but you still have to reserve each ride. With the Platinum FP, the ride reservation is typically available right away or within 5-10 minutes. The thing to do is make your next ride reservation as soon as you get scanned in for your current ride. 4) There is no longer an upcharge for X2 on the Platinum FP, you get a one-time reservation now. It's still an upcharge on Gold. 4b) X2 is generally open with the park, but it's easy to tell if it's not. If a ride goes down, you can cancel your reservation for that ride and pick something else, then reserve that ride again later when it opens back up. 5) There are no seating restrictions for the FP, so yes you can sit in the front rows if you want. 6) Each person can have their own FP device, but you would have to pay for each one separately. If you're going to stay together the whole day, it's easier to just have one device for the whole group. 7) Single reservation means you only get one reservation on the FP and once you use it, it's gone. For example, you get a single reservation for Fu11 Throttle and if you want to ride it again, you would have to wait in the normal line. For rides like Tatsu and Goliath, you can reserve them as much as you want as there are no limits on those rides. It kinda pisses me off how many restrictions that SFMM has on their FPs. I understand limiting reservations on new rides like Justice League or terrible capacity rides like Superman, but there's no reason to limit reservations on rides like FT, TC, or X2. When I got FL Plus at CP, there were no limits on how many times I could ride Maverick, Valravn, TTD, MF, etc.
