Knoebels Discussion Thread
neil009 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Of course the mentality at larger parks like un-named flags *should* be that the less time guests spend in line, the more time they're walking around buying food and crap. But I guess they solved that problem by literally putting food stands in the queues themselves. -

You're absolutely right, it isn't a generic station. It is uniquely atrocious. I was thinking this whole time that Cedar Fair hasn't been doing too bad with theming lately, and that this coaster would probably have a really cool darkly-themed station. Guess they decided "Valravn" didn't suggest "castles" so much as "public bathroom chic". -
Ok I love the sign, but I feel like the placement of it seriously reinforces the "flat ride/carnival coaster" feeling. Flat rides very often have big flashy signs placed high up on the ride itself, whereas full-sized coasters almost never have signs attached to the ride itself, usually just at the entrance.

What... what is that supposed to be? It looks like the tiles on the walls of an indoor swimming pool building. -

I have a very hard time believing that they will intentionally not test during normal operating hours, or if they don't that it has anything to do with guest relations. Guests complain about stupid crap no matter what you do, I'm pretty sure they'll do whatever is necessary to get the ride open asap. -

I love the smothery new B&M vests, there's just nothing like the feeling of having your rib cage compressed like you're in the clutches of a giant octopus or maybe a boa constrictor. I like to pretend I'm Giles Cory at the Salem witch trials, getting crushed underneath a board piled with heavy stones. Isn't that the reason they invented roller coasters? -
I get the feeling that they've already installed all the theming they're planning to install. Well from the look of this picture, it looks like they're starting EDIT: Seems like they started/finished the transfer track, we could see trains go on soon. Once you see the angry wiggly-nosed monster in profile, you can never unsee it.

Dual booting on a Mac is no biggie, all you have to do is pay for a copy of Windows (assuming you're not a pirate -arrr!). -

You lucked out. People lose stuff on Skyrush constantly. You're playing the slot machine every time, three cherries come up and you're out one wallet. -

^Do you work there? Sorry I can't keep track of who the insiders are on this board. I didn't know if "I hear" meant like "I saw it in a comment by some random on Facebook" -

^Nobody is suggesting you have sympathy for Atari. As for NVizzio, how would you like it if you invested months and months of physical, mental, and emotional energy into creating something while having your employers give you impossible goals and deadlines, are finally forced to release something you KNOW is flawed and that you're not proud of, then have to pretend that you're happy with it anyway, only to have thousands of people call what you created a piece of shit and ridicule you for it? Can you just imagine for a second what that must feel like? I wouldn't be surprised if Atari cut their losses and ran from this project as fast as they could, but so far they're not, they're putting in the money to release updates and fix problems. So at least give them a little credit for that.

Ok, there's a reason RCT had "coughing" sounds when people vomited, not actual retching sounds. That video of crowds of people all retching in unison was like something out of a bizarre prescription drug-induced nightmare. This game is obviously some degree of a failure, but I don't like seeing people say mean things about the developers. Making games is not an easy thing to do and we should probably assume they cared and their intentions were good, the time, budget and overall vision just weren't there. Looks to me like a lot of people working on their own little aspects of the game without one person watching to make sure it all ties together into something charming and playable.

RMC actually incorporates a ton of laterals into their designs. They all have them! Definitely. I've only been on Twisted Colossus, but it absolutely has a good mix of laterals. Could someone name a spot on one of the RMCs that has sustained laterals, just so we can be sure we're talking about the same thing? Because that's what I like, sustained laterals, not the brief jabs you get from the banking twisting around (which RMCs obviously have tons of). This might sound like splitting hairs but for instance I love all the flat turns on the Legend whereas the stengel dives on Maverick don't do much for me. There was actually a thread devoted to this distinction: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1434554#p1434554 p1434554 A couple physics smarties gave some good info on it.

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread

Hmm, I wasn't expecting it to be symmetrical. I like it though. It looks like a lurking horned creature ready to strike, but in abstract coaster track form. Surreal, dreamlike. Between this and the positively bizarre scenery around Downtime, I'd say whoever works in the art department at LC has a preference for the fine arts. -

Those water coasters were very nearly as much fun as the woodies, and more fun than 95% of coasters I've ridden. Not lying in the slightest. -
Wait a second, is the lift hill footage sped up in the video? That lift hill looks faster than normal to me. Also that looks like a huge lateral jab at the very end before the break run. I am hoping against hope that I'm right. I really don't see why these RMC coasters that clearly aren't afraid of intensity should never have a single underbanked turn that really throws you to the side. Maybe in their original calculations, the outer-banked turn bled more speed from the train before that final flat turn, and now that the outer banked turn is no more, the train goes flying into that flat turn faster than originally intended? That would be awesome.

Coaster looks awesome! Not surprised at all. I hope that's how it runs on a normal day, I know these RMCs can be temperamental. Like someone else said, the layout is beautifully symmetrical and makes my OCD side very happy. My secret wish: that everyone who's going to go to the trouble of making a nice HD mounted POV will follow two simple guidelines. 1. Make the height of the camera a closer approximation of where the rider's head will be than literally in between the tracks. 2. Please use a normal, non-fisheye no-distortion lense. I know I know, nerdy nitpicking...

This is one of those times when I wish people (talking about whoever made the video here) wouldn't add to the stupidity. Actual ride speed according to whom? If you don't think the video is at the right speed, relax and wait for more video, don't make a guess and then tell people you've "corrected" it. Clearly this person overcompensated in the other direction. That said, the latest video looks fantastic! Still looks like it loses a good amount of speed by the end but it looks like it ends at basically a good spot. Every airtime hill delivers and if the helix is a little sluggish, ehh so what?
