  1. So these people who are cheating the system are getting something for free when they should be paying for it, and you don't think that factors into Six Flags' thinking at all? These things are preventable, they only happen because Six Flags employees are terribly under-trained and under-managed. I'm guessing that's the whole reason they're having this problem in the first place. If Six Flags is really having a problem on the scale some are suggesting then it's clear they're doing literally nothing to prevent it. It doesn't take a lot of brains to figure this out. Don't have the place where the passes are distributed at the front of the park. Make it harder to find. Don't have people wait in a line outside to get it. Have an employee managing it who's older and can conduct his/herself with some presence. If it's a gaggle of able-bodied kids with no adult in sight, look at them skeptically, ask who exactly the pass is for. Explain the pass is only for people who really need it and ask them, do you really need it? Kids are generally terrible liars, so if they're lying, you can make it clear with your body language that they shouldn't have it, and they probably won't be persistent enough to demand it. If you don't believe me that it's possible to solve this problem without resorting to discriminatory policies, then all I can tell you is the proof is in the pudding. Other parks don't have this problem, other parks don't have this policy.
  2. Log flume and skloosh are down, canal for the motorboat ride is drained. I noticed the ski lift was down last Saturday but then I saw it running on Sunday, not sure what that was about. Also Power Surge is still MIA. If you're a carousel organ junkie like myself, be forewarned it seems when it gets below a certain temperature they can't run the organ on the main carousel. Amusingly enough that game where you spray the crap out of targets with water guns was running. This was the day when it was like 45 degrees outside. Some little girl was playing and enjoying herself thoroughly, though I'm afraid I can't say the same for the staff running it.
  3. If you want ejector that lasts for more than .0001 seconds then you need a taller camelback like this. If you're saying RMC has yet to deliver true sustained ejector, then here's hoping there's a first time for everything. Count me among those that are SO happy they went with this rather than an inverted stall a la Wildfire.
  4. And what exactly will the system to ensure authenticity look like? Are they going to call the doctor and make sure it's legit? What, short of that, could possibly prevent forgeries? The website tells you specifically what the note needs to have on it.
  5. You don't think the designers would feel even a slight pang of loss when something they worked hard on for years is made defunct? Sure it's a business but it's not the kind of business you'd be in if you didn't care about what you made.
  6. ^What do you imagine it's supposed to look like when you strip the paint off of something that old?
  7. Impulse crushed my hip bones. I really wanted to like it, it's a fun, zippy ride with a great first drop. But those restraints hurt me bad. It did to my hips what Skyrush does to your thighs and Gatekeeper does (did) to your chest. I really hate this new style of restraint that just gets tighter and tighter as the ride goes. Maybe it's the way my body is shaped because my brother had no problems at all, but everything after the pullout of the first drop was very hard to enjoy.
  8. That's great to hear! Yeah most haunted attractions around here are $30-$40 + but they also all have more than one walk-through and/or hayride. For a little local type place it's awesome they're able to put on a that good a show. Hopefully I'll get to stop by tomorrow night.
  9. Has anybody done the Elysburg Haunted House? Is it worth the time and $10? http://www.elysburghauntedhouse.com/page/Home.aspx
  10. So in other words it won't effect the people it's designed to effect (dishonest people) but it will negatively effect those who don't deserve it (honest people). Sounds like a fantastic policy to me! Or maybe you're saying you don't think it goes far enough? Maybe they should have someone come up behind the guest, grab away their crutches and see if they fall over?
  11. ^I appreciate your thoughts, as the sibling of a disabled person and who works full-time with disabled adults I also have a slightly different perspective on this. In my opinion you don't need to be torn on this particular issue. The idea behind the current system is you're not skipping the line, just spending the time you would be waiting in line somewhere else (like sitting on a bench). I think this is a fair and equitable method and no one who needs it should feel bad for using it. Protecting the system from abuse does not serve the interests of the general public, the only people who stand to gain is Six Flags. They have a tendency to put profits over costumer satisfaction and this ugly, insensitive policy is just one more example.
  12. This is the problem with the system right here. Obviously someone in a wheelchair doesn't need a doctor's note to prove they're disabled, neither does someone with all the obvious signs of Down's Syndrome. And I highly doubt most employees would have the stomach to deny the person the pass even if they're supposed to (can you see the facebook headlines now? "They wouldn't give my husband who lost a leg serving his country a pass because he didn't have a note from his doctor"). So the only people the policy would apply to in that case is people who don't obviously "look" disabled which is incredibly unfair. I'm gonna go way out on a limb and guess that the numbers of people who lie about having a disability is actually incredibly small compared to the number of people who jump the line the old-fashioned way. No, that day you saw someone using the pass who didn't "look" disabled to you does not prove otherwise. Far be it from me to go against all the people here who are so concerned about how long they have to wait in line (although the new system is current-wait-time based, so people abusing it hurts no one but Six Flags who is trying to sell flash passes), but yes, requiring someone to go to the doctor and get a note before they go to the park is a massive inconvenience, especially if the person works full time or has a family. I don't believe this policy is fair or appropriate. Corporations will always do whatever they think they can get away with but I have a feeling this policy is going to collapse in on itself pretty quickly.
  13. With Dorney I've moved straight past bitterness into rose-tinted nostalgia.
  14. ^I liked KK a lot actually but it sure had its flaws. I think on day 4 of standing in line watching the Lightning Run ops lackadaisically meandering up and down the platform I'd seriously start rethinking my life.
  15. A 5 day trip to Kentucky Kingdom? Even with Storm Chaser and Lightning Run, and the waterpark if you're into that, KK is a 2 day park at the most. Just go weekdays in June, if that doesn't work, weekends in early June shouldn't be miserable. Oh, and stop by Holiday World while you're at it. i'm just the kind of person who enjoys a long term experience at a good park ( get to know the nooks and crannies of the coasters ) in my opinion, that's impossible to do in a 2 day trip. You gotta be there long enough to let the excitement settle, then feel like you live there as if it was your home park. That's when you can truly take in the full aspect of a coaster. I feel that when you hit that relaxed state on a coaster you have achieved the best experience your gonna get. I recently took a 5 day trip to Carowinds, by the end of the trip, i equate riding Fury to sitting in my chair at home watching one of my favorite movies. "pleasure at it's finest". And yes i would love to do Holiday World in the same trip, but time off work and budget don't alot for it. It'll be it's own trip sometime though. You can afford to spend five days at Kentucky Kingdom but can't afford to spend 1 day at Holiday World? Have you been to either? I could spend all summer at Holiday World, but 1 day at KK is absolutely plenty. You come here asking for advice, you shouldn't be surprised when every single person is going to tell you to change your plans.
  16. I guess I'm the opposite of everyone else. I love Green Lantern, and I also like the weird turnaround before the first drop, and the two ending corkscrews are actually my favorite part of the ride. The only part I find disappointing is the first drop itself.
  17. I believe I have yet to see anyone mention Green Lantern at SFGAd. It feels about as steep as the lift hill when you're on it.
  18. Nowadays I agree with you. But you can't forget the fact that unlike those other parks, Dorney was at one time all set to become the region's heaviest hitter, right around the time they received the first hyper on the east coast. If you grew up with that image in mind then it's hard to shake. I'm not quite as eager as everyone else for a GCI woodie, because old GCIs just typically aren't that great and Dorney wouldn't keep it pristine. If we're speaking strictly realistically, then I would want a small tightly plotted wing coaster with a second half as intense as Thunderbird's except twice as long. Which, btw, wouldn't be that long. So it could happen.
  19. Well if we don't get ziz next year, OF COURSE the park is going to hell. That goes without saying.
  20. ^When I first looked at that article I seriously thought they were tearing down Hydra. I was like "well geeze it's not THAT rough..."
  21. I got to do the ERT. We were waiting for row two of Batman (and by that I mean second from the back) when a woman with a camera came up and asked us if we wanted to stay in the park for an extra half hour. All we had to do was agree to get our picture taken. She gave us all wrist bands, took our picture after boarding Batman, and that was it. No more information was given. It was only for Batman and Nitro, and honestly it was only enough time for two laps, maybe more if we hadn't waited for the front, but definitely not 10+. That was some real serendipity because Nitro was only ride #6 for us and we had been in the park since noon, and for one of the people in our group who had to sit out a couple rides it was only ride #3. I was already VERY disappointed in how crowded it was and if we'd missed Nitro I would have been so mad. It was the first time at the park for most of our group and I picked this weekend because I thought it would be relatively dead. Two things of note. Got on Zumanjaro for the first time and honestly, I think it's underrated. I don't know if our car was abnormally heavy or what but that drop was intense. Everyone talks like the build up is great but the drop is disappointing, but I found the kick at the top to be quite strong and sudden and the way down felt VERY fast. It's no ARM tower but it's a close contender. Namtab was FREAKING AMAZING. Easily the best experience I've ever had on an invert. No headbanging, no nausea, just pure unadulterated insanity. I wish it could stay that way permanently. But in general, although I had a good time with my friends, it was gloomy, rainy, chilly, and inexplicably crowded as hell. I just wanted to yell at everybody that it was September and they shouldn't be here. This is supposed to be a good time of year to go but I'll tell you what, I can already only stand going to this place every other year, and after last Sunday I'm ready to never go back again.
  22. While I'm not one of those people saying a tunnel or splashdown would suddenly make this ride perfect, a tunnel CAN add a lot to a ride. The sudden increase in noise, decrease in light, and closeness of your surroundings adds to the feeling of speed and sensory overload. Splashdowns though I agree with you on, I would prefer they leave the splashdown out. They don't get you wet and you can hardly even see the splash from most seats.
  23. ^I would recommend the monorail and the Kissing Tower as two quintessential Hershey rides. Do yourself a favor and skip the Extreme Cup Challenge ride.
  24. I have no idea what you mean, I thought everyone could tell by now I'm a natural optimist.
  25. Fact or opinion?? Can never tell sometimes on these forums! 100% opinion, and that's why it's funny to me that some people are so vehemently defending the ride and calling me "ignorant" when everything I said is completely rooted in fact. It's still an opinion, but it's got facts behind it. Nothing I said is "wrong". And nothing anybody else is saying in favor of the ride is "wrong". Are people seriously still complaining about the name?? Oh. My. God. The name is no worse than Rougarou, and there was not nearly this much bitching when they announced Rougarou. I'm starting to think you all would have been happier if they would have just named the coaster "Diving Coaster" and moved on. If I had to guess half the people complaining about the name are complaining because they are not smart enough to be able to pronounce it. Ohhh, I will continue complaining about the name until I'm dead. It is the single worst decision Cedar Point has ever made. You want to call me stupid for not knowing how to pronounce it? Guess what buddy, IT ISN'T ENGLISH. Why would I know how to pronounce it when I don't even know what language it is? And no, I'm not going to look it up, because it's a f*cking roller coaster name and that's absurd. This isn't Busch Gardens or Epcot, Cedar Point has no strong overseas cultural theme, or any theme at all for that matter, it's an American park filled with coasters with regular, American names. Maverick, Magnum, Mean Streak, these are coaster names. Valravn isn't a coaster name, it's a f*cking anagram puzzle. IT'S MISSING A VOWEL. This name deserves to be complained about for decades. It deserves to have our children's children complaining about it. Someday when Cedar Point has rusted to the ground and been covered by an eon's worth of dust, some future archaeological explorer will dig up a sign with this ride's name on it and go, "Geeze, that's a f*cking stupid name." People are allowed to have opinions different from yours. I would say the layout certainly has potential, but nobody knows how it's going to ride including you. Quit throwing around the word "ignorant" when it doesn't apply. We've seen B&M build corkscrews and airtime hills that simply don't deliver on their premise. If those two elements on this ride fall into that category then it'll literally be nothing but two cool drops with some track in between. Kind of like the dive machines that already exist. I'm optimistic though, don't get me wrong.
