Worst Ride Replacements/Downgrades
El Toro_Ryan replied to Pyrozooka0's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Movie Town Water Effect being replaced for the Dark Knight at GADV. That ride was an awesome way to cool off at the park and was the best water ride GADV had to offer. Dark Knight is just meh. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I'm guessing either because the trains weren't certified to run on the Mine Ride or because CP decided they'd rather use the two extra trains for spare parts. Yeah I rode Gemini last year in May and I thought it was much rougher than when I rode it back in 2010. I guess it's just showing its age. -
The last new Coaster in your Count

Tallest coaster you've been on.
El Toro_Ryan replied to andre8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You can probably blame Zumanjaro for that haha. For me, Toro is the tallest wooden coaster I have been on and Ka is the tallest steel coaster I have been on. The tallest ride I have been on with a lift hill is Millennium Force, but hopefully it will be Fury 325 by the end of this year. -
Go Pros and Coasters
El Toro_Ryan replied to sirspud's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Six Flags does not allow any filming on their coasters what so ever. When I was working, I was told strictly not to allow any type of camera to be used, including Go Pros. One time, someone at El Toro had a large chest strap with a Go Pro mounted to it but we could not allow him to use it. I'm not sure how lenient other park chains are but Six Flags is very strict about filming. Just some words of advice, it's really not worth it to film a POV on any coaster. It's not worth the risk of injuring another park guest if you happen to drop your camera or getting kicked out of the park if you get caught. Trust me, having worked for a park, I have seen dozens of people get kicked out for filming and other riders and bystanders get injured from dropped cameras. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I've heard Gemini could be a nightmare as well with setting up back when it used to run three trains. I'd imagine it was slightly harder to hit interval on that ride with three trains since the safety brakes are the MCBR as well unlike Magnum where the safety brakes are at the end of the ride. Did anyone here work Gemini when CP still ran three trains? It seems like a pretty long walk from the station out to the MCBR to manually release the train stuck there. And did Magnum start enforcing the locker policy to speed up intervals to avoid set ups? I'm aware the new control system is less complicated to restart when a setup does occur, but I'm guessing CP wanted to avoid the possibility of trains slamming to a stop in the emergency brakes. I heard intervals improved greatly after the locker policy was enforced. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

I seriously doubt that trim will have too much of an impact on the ride. Aren't the trims on Leviathan hardly noticeable? I don't think I've heard any heavy complaining about those. -

Is it just me or does that hill look wider than your typical B&M camel back? If so, I bet the ride is going to hold some serious speed cresting that hill. -

I've never had a serious issue with Mean Streak. I may be in the minority here but I've actually always found it generally smooth for a woodie, especially recently. The park has put a lot of good track work into the ride. Other than that, I feel like it would be way better if Cedar Point just let it run through the course without the trims on the first drop and the mcbr practically stopping the train. Sometimes it just feels too sluggish. I had a trimless ride earlier this year in May after my train got stopped on the lift cause someone had a camera and the first half was surprisingly good. There wasn't much airtime but there was some good speed going around the tops of the hills along with some decent laterals. I wouldn't mind an RMC conversion though. haha -
GADV used to open new rides on the park's opening day but I'm pretty sure Nitro was the last ride to actually open with the park. Now, I think the park and Six Flags as a whole purposely schedule all new rides to open later in the season as a weird way to advertise their new rides. Like park goers who go early in the season may see the new ride being built, tell their friends all about it, and then come back later in the season once it has opened.

Best B&M and Best Intamin
El Toro_Ryan replied to grsupercity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Intamin: Skull Mountain at GADV B&M: Every B&M is the same ride so I don't have a favorite... Nah jk, El Toro for Intamin and Nitro for B&M. -
shouldn't this carnival ride already be installed by now? its already Jan 2nd, next we will get some huge snowstorm, and come opening day, the park will blame the winter for not having the ride open. this park really needs to get moving. I wouldn't expect construction to begin until February or March at the earliest.

I'm sure if a park asked for one of those elements in a giga coaster's design and could afford it, it could most definitely happen but typically parks don't look for inversions and such in giga coasters. Spacing the track elements out for big inversions would be more costly since everything is on a larger scale. I could see a heart line if anything being place on a giga coaster but I guess it's really up to the park buying the coaster whether or not they want one.

totally disagree. with my 31 visits this season, bizarro and superman were bad like they always are. ka was ruined by the addition of the drop tower. I never seen so much triple stacking on Nitro in one season like this past season. and el toro, with the horrible restraints was terrible. this was one of the worst ride operations yrs ive seen. I also went to a bunch of other parks, and mainly, they were all better, except for SFNE, they sucked. oh well. just hoping for a better 2015. Skull Mountain had a good crew. Haha

Will B&M ever top the charts?
El Toro_Ryan replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M's older coasters may be better but I still think their new ones are great. Like Gatekeeper is the newest B&M I have ridden and while it wasn't my favorite coaster, it was still an excellent ride none the less. It was smooth as glass, had good pacing, and I even thought it had some good forces to it. B&M probably won't top the charts anytime soon, well at least the Mitch Hawker poll, but either way, I don't think the company has made a bad coaster since Vortex at Carowinds (and that ride is not bad at all IMO). You have to keep in mind coaster enthusiasts are probably only like 1% of the population going to theme parks so it makes sense for B&M to cater to the GP. For example, Intimidator 305 is a phenomenal ride and I loved it but from what I've absorbed, the GP don't seem to love that ride as much as us coaster enthusiasts do. The last time I was at Kings Dominion, I waited longer for Volcano and Dominator than Intimidator (and it was only running one train.) From what I've gotten out of working at GADV, the GP's favorite ride at the park is typically Nitro, a B&M and not El Toro or Kingda Ka lol. B&M may not be the most cutting edge coaster company out there right now but I think they have a formula that works very well, making smooth and reliable coasters everyone can enjoy. -
No way, I've seen Superman run without any stacking in the past but in the recent years crews haven't hustled like they used to. Lol it's even worse when you're trying to roll trains and you get to an empty seat where you have to pull down the restraint and fasten the seatbelt. It gets aggravating quick. 2 trains is really all Bizarro needs most of the time since it rarely has a line but having 3 trains kind of forces you to hustle a little more. Trust me, if the ride only ran 2 trains everyday, the slow crew members would probably work even slower and the stacking would be worse. Plus having 3 trains gives you the chance to run at a higher capacity if the crew takes advantage of that. Also Batman had a phenomenal crew this year, especially towards the end of the year. They hit one million riders before Toro did I'm pretty sure.

They take their sweet time. And it is harder to hit cycle times on that ride due to the floors cause they actually slow down dispatches more than you would think. I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread but in order to not double stack, you have to dispatch when the train on the course is leaving the MCBR. Any later than that and then the train double stacks. Dispatching that early is completely doable with only two people on the train. Me and a few others were pretty good at it, but most of the Bizarro crew did not care enough. lol
