Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
Password121 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe, but for different reasons. The Breakers renovations were funded wholly by the sale of a former CF waterpark by Knott's. It isn't eating up any of the yearly capital for 2014/15. However, I don't think there will be a $30 million coaster in 2016, which would allow for the possibility of two coasters next year in the chain (one likely being at Cedar Point, the other potentially at Canadas Wonderland). There is still the possibility of a third, only time will tell. -

^^But there have been no new WindSeekers in the chain for the last two years. They're definitely not giving out like candy, and I'm fairly certain they're done with adding new ones completely with all the problems they've had. -
Awesome article, thanks Ryan. It really gives me an appreciation for what goes on at the park. However, I was getting the vibe that they are a little too afraid to spend money after the Premier days and, most recently, Zumanjaro. The parking lot issue bugs me less knowing it isn't a cheap, simple fix. You can't blame them for that. I'm still hopeful for either a dark ride or new coaster next year, but now I'm not entirely sure that's in the plans. The fact that they're finally turning a profit and emphasizing how coasters are not in the plans leads me to believe they're not jumping on the opportunity for a major coaster. Some great info, also very excited for Holiday in the Park!

Diamondback. And sorry, but a Gatekeeper-esque entrance isn't going to happen. Not on their budget, and Cedar Point will always have the biggest/best of the new additions/upgrades. Nothing against Valleyfair; it's just how it is. -
Yeah see Darien Lake would need somewhere around $100+ million to contend with the lineups of the parks you listed. I'm not saying Darien Lake is a bad park at all, I have no problem with what it is. But that's just it- it is what it is, and that's a park that hasn't received proper capital to do the projects we would have liked in the past. There's hope for Darien Lake, there's hope for almost any park, for that matter. But until then, we should take this park for what it is, and hope it's on track to being a very good park, because the truth is, it isn't there yet.

Depends on maintenance costs and reliability. I don't think they'll remove a ride if it's in decent working condition that isnt a burden on the mechanics/budget. -

Are you serious????? This video is complete speculation. This video gives no insight beyond what is already common sense, don't duplicate your current coasters. For the most part the guy considers coasters the park already has and says any style not already in the park is a possibility. Duh!!!!!!!!! Don't be a jerk. I posted this for a reason and I guess you didn't see it. He made some points that I think many people would find helpful. 1. Cedar Fair won't install a wing rider in another park until 2018 or later. 2. It is still possible for a Cedar Fair park to get a coaster by Intamin. Next time pay attention before you call people out. Umm... still speculation. Not really anything past what is essentially common knowledge, and the rest is complete speculation. Hes not trying to call you out (neither am I), but you need to take into account what you're listening to and who you're posting it to. Many of us on here don't need to listen to fanboys speculating on YouTube with no released information. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I imagine Cedar Point must have some really special plans for the big 150, but I find it hard to believe that they'd start clearing ground for it five years in advance. You never know, but unless we're talking an Expedition Everest level of immersion, I can't see Cedar Point taking more than 2-3 years to build an attraction. Even Top Thrill Dragster didn't have major work start until after the end of the 2001 season. That's what I was getting at. I assume this site is for the supposed Dive coaster/2016 alternative, but they referred to that site with the 150 plans hand in hand. Maybe it was worded strangely. This leads me to wonder what they could possibly be planning for year 150. It'll be a coaster, it'll be big. That's pretty much all there is. Honestly I just don't see a polar coaster at Cedar Point. They're not going to be the first to 500 ft (that's in 2017 in Florida), and I would expect it to be a good coaster, not just a gimmick. Very interesting. Sounds like MF in 2000- records and a good coaster. -

It's hard to imagine, but it's obvious they would if they got the chance. Interesting comments from Bryan Edwards in this article www.ohio.com/blogs/airtime/airtime-1.489637/cedar-point-relocating-rides-for-future-expansion-video-of-good-time-theatre-demolition-1.568876 make me think this Dive Coaster may be the last coaster until 2020, where Cedar Point is going to get something huge. Good find. It almost made it sound like the theaters plot is for the 2020 coaster. This is becoming a very interesting offseason. I personally can't wait to see what Cedar Point has in store over the next few years. -

If RMC can create what they have out of Colossus, one of the least imaginative layouts ever created, they can make something spectacular out of Mean Streak, no question. -

The $12 million figure may have come from a multi ride deal with Imtamin including Kingda Ka. That or it's just not true. The widespread belief is El Toro alone would cost $25 million, which is why parks aren't buying prefabs. Although personally if you're paying $30 million for Gatekeeper, El Toro is worth Cedar Fair's entire revenue stream. -

I wouldn't call it random. If Cedar Point thought it was worthwhile to get Maverick some new restraints, then they'd do it. And they did. As for the plot created by these relocations/removals, I think we can almost be assured this is a coaster. A dark ride would not require such early clearing on such a large plot of land. As for an Intamin pre-fab, as awesome as they are, I don't see it. I'm not sure an average sized pre-fab would fit in that clearing, let alone one of Cedar Point scale (200+ feet). Also, working with Intamin on something so small as restraints to me does not point toward an Intamin coaster in the near future. Great Adventure got Zumanjaro in 2014- eight years after their last Intamin coaster (El Toro). There's no way in heck they're building an Intamin coaster next year, or the year after, etc. My point being, this is a small investment. It's not like CF had been morally against Intamin and refused to do business with them; they just saw other opportunities with B&M and had a really incredible run of Intamin coasters at Cedar Point. New restraints is not a risky investment; I'd be surprised it the price tag topped $100,000, in all honesty. -

Banshee continues to baffle me. On opening day last year, the line was over 8 hours long, but otherwise I've never waited more than 30 minutes for it. Usually it's a walk-on, 15 minutes at most. The thing's a capacity monster. I don't think there was ever a time when over 12,000 people were queuing for Banshee. Just a hunch. -

The Kool Aid tastes very good when you drink it from the perspective CP is serving it to enthusiasts and guests. These highly-anticipated changes are definitely going to significantly help these areas of the park. However, the motive behind these changes comes down to enhancing the guest experience in order to drive revenues by increasing guest spending and pass purchases. So these changes are "right" but they are meant for Cedar Point to make more $$$ in the long run. Well, yes and no. Of course, their goal is to sell more passes, higher satisfaction, etc. What's going to sell these passes? The refreshed hotels, the dive coaster, the improved park experience, etc. NOT new restraints on an already extremely popular coaster. NOT relocating an old flat ride. Yes, Cedar Point is trying to increase profits with the new e-ticket rides and improving guest satisfaction while doing so, but it's these small improvements that don't sell passes themselves and aren't marketed that put this park a step above. -

Today is a prime example of why Cedar Point is so highly regarded in almost every way. Enthusiasts (and potentially disappointed families) were concerned they would remove even more family rides for another record breaking coaster. What do they do? They relocate both rides (Turnpike Cars is unnecessary- what park needs three antique car rides?), while refreshing yet another somewhat outdated section of the park. None of this was announced, they didn't try to sell more passes with this, they're just doing it because it's right. With Maverick's restraints, this was mostly enthusiasts (and some park guests) complaining about an otherwise world class roller coaster. They're not going to sell more passes off marketing new Maverick restraints. The ROI on this will be incredibly low, if not zero. They didn't need to do this, but they wanted to. To improve the guest experience. All the other improvements as well- more food options, restrooms in Chickie's and Pete's, etc. Cedar Point is hitting their stride, just at the right time. My take on the RMC teasers... Ouimet/all the higher-ups must be very well aware what RMC could do for this park. They've continued to tease about this potential project for a good while now. In my eyes, this is happening in the next three years, and frankly I'm surprised it hasn't yet. If you look 2-3 years down the road after this supposed Dive coaster and an I-boxed Mean Streak, Cedar Point is the undisputed best park in the world, claiming that meaningless title back from Europa Park. -

Can you link where you found this? Edit: Wow, Dodgem relocated this offseason. Seriously not expecting that. Good to see these family rides relocated instead of removed. To me, this adds quite a bit of fuel to the Dive coaster rumor. Why would they be doing all this NOW for a dark ride? This is going to be big. -

Millennium Force does and always will have its die hard fans. I think it's a good bet that Maverick will be more comfortable in the tight transitions, but MF will always hold a place as THE coaster. I love Maverick, I think it's an excellent ride, but personally, I think a Millennium Force back seat night ride is a really special experience. Even with improved restraints, I think I'll still be torn on my favorite steel coaster. Until I make it to Carowinds and SFNE this summer. Then I'll re-evaluate. And El Toro > everything. -
Absolutely. Cedar Point's policy is excellent. They wait about 10 minutes on just about every major ride, even rides like Iron Dragon get a grace period. Cedar Point also has the benefit so many workers living in dorms. Easier to keep the employees if they don't have to commute. Yeah, GADV only gives housing to its international workers. In other news somewhat related to workers, the neon yellow uniforms are supposed to be replaced by all new blue uniforms this year so be on the lookout. They didn't get them last year?? SFOG & SFGAM switched to the blue last year, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was the bastard park [ SFA] that didn't switch to this year, but I would think SFGAdv would have been one of the first since it's one of the top 3, If not top 2 parks in the chain. Umm... SFA had blue uniforms in 2014. You guys need to give that park the credit it deserves. Especially if you haven't been there since ~2011, that park has become arguably one of the better parks in the chain, given its size and the cards it was dealt in the mid-2000's. Just my opinion.

Frontier City Announces 'Brain Drain'
Password121 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
omg, FOUR FOOTERS! Just poking some fun, but in all seriousness, it's great to see the park adding a new thrill ride. As Robb said, probably not what we'd all like to see, but I'd rather see another Super Loop rather than, well, nothing. I think it's a safe bet that something wa done recently to make these rides more attractive to parks, whether that's the marketing of the ride or the price. -
I don't think we'll know what's happening with this coaster until it becomes obvious/announced. That being said, it's a small coaster. Perhaps, because of its small size, if RMC were to I-box it, they could combine the tracks and shorten the layout for around $6 million. Anythings possible at this point.
-
Unless the park is much more crowded than the usual offseason weekend, I don't think waits would be suffer too much. Theoretically, this would increase capacity as they onto have to load/unload every other cycle. The number of people that ride the coasters will decrease slightly, but I don't think it would be cut in half.

That green twist into the "high five" element reminds me a little bit of a scale down, less over-banked version of Outlaw Run's outside banked turn/inversion. The shaping of it is really interesting, perhaps that's one of the airtime moments. It also looks a little like a more-overbanked version of Wicked Cyclone outward airtime hop (granted it hasn't been constructed yet). I wasn't all that excited about TC until these pasts pictures. I might not ever ride this, but it looks pretty freakin awesome. I can only hope Six Flags continues business with RMC at such a pace. These coasters won't fix the SF chain, but they're putting some of their (excl. Magic Mountain) parks on the map.
