  1. Probably a wooden coaster. Maybe a racer, since those were super popular around this time.
  2. I don't think it's feasible to make GL into a traditional sit-down. One, the heartline of Mantis required the higher floorless trains compared to sit down (it's also very possible Rougarou's trains sit higher than other B&M floorless trains). GL is the same way so sit-down trains would very likely not be possible. Two, why would you want normal sit down trains when you can have floorless trains just as easily and market them as something more unique? There is no down side to having a floorless over a sit down. Outside of the front seat the experience is almost exactly the same. You can't argue that sit down coasters make rides more intense because the only B&M sit downs were built when B&M consistently built intense rides. I personally don't see SF renovating any stand up coasters. They still think people like them in the parks that they're popular (Gadv, Magic Mountain, over Georgia) and they won't put in that much money into the less popular stand ups because they suck as they are, and being stand ups doesn't change a whole lot (Apocalypse). A new B&M train also costs $1 million apiece. They're (SF, not Cedar Point) better off using that towards a new flat ride or to help cover the cost of an RMC or free spin.
  3. I'll wait until I ride it this July to judge Banshee, but GateKeeper is as close to "forceless" as you can get for a ride that size. I love that ride and it's loads of fun but not intense. Even if Fury 325 is a step-up from recent B&M's, it's no I-305 and two-for-two is hardly a hitting streak if you ask me. What it comes down to is that new RMC's serve a different purpose than most B&M's do from the last 15 years.
  4. Some fairly trusted sources at Great Adventure History are saying that if this is what they believe it is, it's no big deal. Just something to keep in mind that it may be "a favorite from the 90's" but that doesn't mean it's still a favorite today or anything to make a big deal about. We'll see. I know it would never happen but I'm just praying that it's not Skull Mountain, lol.
  5. They just did a major refurbishment last spring on Twister so I don't think it's that. I also don't think it would be Houdini for what coasterbill mentioned. If it is the Batman Arena... something big could be coming for 2017 that's been rumored.
  6. Wait... a net made you less interested in a 223 foot dive coaster? That was the thing that just did it for you? A net? I was going to say the same thing. To be completely honest I don't think I'm even going to remember any nets are there when I'm riding a 75 mph roller coaster.
  7. That's a fantastic documentary. Something I've thought to myself before is "How am I going to keep myself away from this hobby if I were to marry someone in the future that's not a coaster nerd like myself?" This documentary just convinced me that I won't have to. Right in the feels.
  8. The original post was edited before your reply. The context is completely different and I had no intentions of calling him out at all.
  9. ^I know you're excited (and I am too!) but posts like that are just going to start more flame wars about whether or not this will be a good ride, if B&M coasters are forceless, etc. because we don't "all know" it's going to be amazing. It's rehashing what we've finally ended and the thread is finally better than the Darien Lake and Great Adventure thread Thanks for the screenshot though. Solid progress recently.
  10. Closing out the 2003 season, Albatross has been a monumental success. Frontier Forest has shown that it can more than just compete with nearby Paramount's Kings Dominion, especially in the thrill ride department. The park has grown at its fastest clip in park history over the last five years and shows no signs of letting up with record attendance in 2003 and what appears to be the workings of a massive expansion in the very near future. Enjoy the pictures, and comments are appreciated. Something I had forgotten to mention in the previous update, Forest Flyer got some fresh white paint and a refurbishment to the 25-year-old PTC trains. Gone are the red handrails, in is fresh white. The Coyote Cafe got an entirely new look for the 2003 season. Coyote, however, has dropped in ridership after removing the dead-end path nearby. Throughout the Summer, Albatross' queue was filled with riders eager to experience the airtime-filled Intamin creation. The tallest Intamin coaster in the state of Virginia! With the opening of Albatross having just taken place, rumors quickly began circulating of a major new coaster. For most, however, these rumors have been dismissed as just a fantasy off the heels of a record-breaking attraction. However, it became apparent that something big was on its way. Similar in construction to Mammoth's station footer, though considerably longer. An overview of Frontier Forest and all its recent expansions, Fall 2003.
  11. ^Excluding lift hills, block brakes, etc. most coasters, including wooden coasters, are between 45 and 60 seconds. So... you're not going to find many "action packed" 2 minute coasters anywhere. Even The Beast is only about 2.5 minutes excluding lift hills. Heck, the longest steel coaster in North America--Fury 325--is something like 63 seconds from drop to brakes.
  12. There is no "perfect" duration. A dark ride, maybe 4-6 minutes. A ride like Intimidator 305? I don't want that to be longer than about 50 seconds or it becomes uncomfortable or even dangerous. It all depends on the ride and there's no way to "blanket" it. And I'll wait different amounts of time depending on how good a ride is, not how long it lasts.
  13. Did they just blow off the purple paint or actually repaint it as well? This ride looks way too fresh and shiny for that to not be a full repaint.
  14. I believe everything I've looked at is Milan Rd (which I assume is the main strip? Looks like it from Google Maps), including the Travelodge which is the cheapest option I've found that still looks decent and has free breakfast. I don't want to stay *too* far away from the park anyways. I'll stay away from those two for sure. Sorry I am just seeing this. The tickets for that day (Friday of Memorial Day weekend) I think were $40 and we got $10 off each. So we paid $30 a piece. Is that what you are asking? Sorry, my post was a little confusing. Yeah, that's what I'm asking though, thanks! I'll make sure to pick up the tickets at that store on our way to the park. With free parking, cheap tickets, and being a good stopping point halfway to KI (and all the good things I've heard about Kennywood) I think we'll probably be taking a day there. Super helpful, guys, thank you!
  15. ^Oh absolutely. I'll be very clear about what we're asking and I'll make sure it's their policy to allow this and there's no inconsistencies. I'll also call a few days before we leave to double check.
  16. ^^Good to know. It'll probably be on my parents' credit card anyways, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'll take a look at that hotel as well. Thanks or the input, this is starting to seem real now! ^It is a shame they have to do that. It must've had to have been quite an issue since they're potentially losing so much money from exuding people like myself from staying their when I have no intentions of vandalizing anything. People are stupid and I don't blame them for understanding that.
  17. ^Youll learn to just let it go. It's. It's not helping anyone having an argument over something that supposed to be fun. People have good intentions when they think they know a lot about coasters, which is why I never bring them up in conversation unless I'm at a park.
  18. ^I followed its construction at Great Adventure and Six Flags America. From bolting on the base to bolting the final piece, it's about a week. It was not a single day process at all.
  19. It's a glorified carnival ride! They start construction Monday afternoon, they should be done by dinner later that day. That fast? Wow. It would probably open on April or March He's being facetious (or very ignorant). It's a permanent version of a carnival ride and is a viable large park thrill ride. It takes a week or so to assemble and longer to landscape/wire/test, etc. It'll be open sometime in May, I'm sure.
  20. More to come! It took dozens of different layouts and tweaks to get this ride to look realistic, so I'm glad you think it looks good. I agree about the name, but I was going for something a little different than the usual. I also think the name fits the ride given how it was planned for the 2001 season but was delayed multiple times due to height/other limitations that come into play later in the scenario. At least it's not "Goliath," right?
  21. It's very strange because the motel I called, the Travelodge Lake Erie/Sandusky, told me over the phone the minimum age to check in is 18. It is only Priceline that lists any age, and it's 21 for every hotel. Maybe that's just a Priceline policy to limit liability? I think what we'll do is decide on final dates/schedule and one or two motel options by each location. I'll call each motel again before I book to be sure, and we'll keep the campsite option as a last minute backup option if all goes terribly wrong. As for the schedule, I think we're deciding between the one I initially proposed for Kentucky Kingdom and this... 7/10--Leave home around 8 am, Kennywood 1pm to 9/10pm, stay in motel another hour two down the road close to KI. 7/11--Depart motel early enough to arrive to KI in the morning, Kings Island until 10pm close 7/12--Kings Island early entry until mid-afternoon, depart to motel near Cedar Point (or campground if necessary) 7/13--Cedar Point 9am-10pm close 7/14--Cedar Point 9am-10pm close with possible Fast Lane 7/15--Cedar Point 9am to early afternoon departure home Thanks for all the input guys, keep it coming!
  22. ^^Scorcher is a B&M stand up. Batman is (was) an Intamin stand up. Great photos.
