One thing I forgot to mention about Friday was that my buddy that I work with that drove us up to the park got walk-of-shamed on Toro. It was our first stop on arrival, and luckily afterwards he managed to fit onto everything else. I felt terrible, but of all rides it wasn't too much of a surprise. He tried to downplay it as I repeatedly assured him it happens all the time (in fact we saw it happen to two women later in the evening). He's a bigger dude and I had my worries he might not be able to ride, and he tried so hard, but could barely even get the belt snapped. Once he did, and the bar wouldn't come down very far I knew it was imminent - to her credit, the op tried to push down a few times and then the dreaded spiel (which I'd never actually heard up close before): "Due to the design of the restraint, we will not be able to operate the ride with you on it". God I'd hate to be the person to tell others they are too big to ride but as I said, he fit on everything else with no problem.

Best Pirate Ship Ride?
boldikus replied to canadianparkfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Always have loved these rides and still do. For years Morey's had a great Sea Dragon I rode many times, then had an accident a few years ago where the mast in the middle disconnected and hit some riders during a cycle. They've since replaced it with "Riptide", a Chance model, which is the single greatest swinging ship I have ever ridden. My lady loves it too, and these are her favorite flats anywhere. Super long cycle and the ends go ridiculously high giving you seriously sustained floater air. Since Ive ridden it, its become my favorite flat @ Morey's besides their insanely awesome Screaming Swing. (This may change in 2015 with the addition of their Flying Scooters, which will be elevated 20 feet off the boardwalk!!) Related, the swinging ship at Hershey ("Pirate" I think its called?) was one of the tamest and lamest I've ridden. -
Whats funny about this is as I was taking the pic (as I have done in the past) I thought "Is that only 1 side they are running!? Coasterbill would not be pleased..." LMAO LOL we saw someone doing this too on Friday but couldn't hear them at all. Too funny. I guess the recording is not working so they have to have an employee stand there and say it? Agree 100%. It looks great there but have to say its looks tiny in front of KK/Zum. I don't even care about riding this but was really hoping they'd have it open Friday for passholder preview. No dice. There was a guy that I assume was working on electrical stuff on Friday, or at least it looked that way. Assuming you didn't ride Train A? Hearing from everyone its shaking so bad this year that it feels like its going to fall apart, and I'd assume you would mention that. As I said we didn't even get over to that side of the park Friday. Happy on one hand hearing about the bad train but kinda regretting we skipped it now. Whatever, I'll be back up there soon. THIS. We really are.

I thought about this a bunch last night, we even talked about how in a way it was a good test run for the park to see what they can really do w/ the rides during HITP. It actually made me more excited that we have that to look forward to. It got really cold after the sun went down but everything seemed to be running all the way up until 9. We got our last Toro ride exactly at 9pm. I really love that the park does CAD. It was such a great night and I'm glad I was able to share it with some non-passholder friends for so cheap. I'm totally looking forward to the park hopefully sending me the feedback survey and I've thought about writing to them to thank them for the event. For my few grips about the amount of trains running on certain things it really is an amazing night and made more amazing by the fact that they don't really advertise it. IMO it alone is worth the price of a season pass. Exactly this. For all we rode, we took our time between rides and still got to do a ton. Like someone else said the ops were practically begging for people to re-ride, especially on Toro and Ka. Walking between rides all night = empty paths. I would have had a blast w/o the half hour nighttime Toro marathon finale. I have some pics I'll post up later, gotta go run some errands.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
boldikus replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Feels so good to be able to be able to post in this thread again. 8xs in a row (10 total) last night at Coasters After Dark. -
When we first got to Bizarro we walked right onto the front row. Air gates were open so we just hopped right on. Didn't notice the three trains until we sat for five minutes on the break run as they checked the restraints on the 2 empty trains in front of us. WTF IS THAT ABOUT!? I know I'm being an entitled enthusiast, but it is a passholder appreciation night, they could put a little more thought into this kind of stuff. I'm a little bummed I missed Nitro entirely but it wasn't a priority and I'm glad I got to marathon the hell out of that bull tonight.

^^^ Yeah sucks they weren't letting us sit in the back, I'm guessing because it was so cold and it was running REALLY slow on the last few hills. Honestly, the last 4-5 rides we did were in the front (3rd row for all of them) were some of my faves. The drop is nowhere near as good but the airtime on the first two hills is insane in the front of the train, wtf. I felt like I got to appreciate riding it in the front tonight, since I ALWAYS ride it in the back. On our two rides right when we got there, we sat in the back, so they were some great first rides of the year for me. Tonight was a blast, feels good to be back in season!! Side note gripe: WTF with 3 stacking trains on a completely ghost town dead Bizarro (got two back to back rides front row) and then one train on Toro and Kingda Ka - rides that actually had a light station wait. Side note achievement: Finally got my fiance on Zumanjaro - she was about to cry on our first ascent but after we dropped she immediately agreed to do it again. They let us stay on in the same spot. It was great both times, my third fave ride in the park after Toro and Nitro.

Where are you seeing 30??? LOL I've been watching all week and the temp at 9pm has been hovering around mid 40's. Right now, looking at the hourly, its only going to 44 degrees by 9pm. Hopefully won't be cold enough for them to justify shutting rides down, but hopefully will keep crowds to bare minimum.

I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to trash the park or the crew. Like I said I haven't been up there myself at all this year so I'm only going by hearsay which I normally try not to do. I know there is growing pains every year, but it is lame IMO they have all new ops on the ride with the most unforgiving/tricky restraints. Last year they started off a little rusty early in the season (I was there and rode multiple times on opening day) but then on some of my visits throughout the year were the fastest crew I encountered all day.

Not rough I just feel like I've been seeing/reading the operations have been abysmal this year. I haven't been to the park this year yet so can't speak from personal experience. Hearing slow ops and one train operations seem the norm for 2015. Hoping they step it up for passholder night, I'm trying to marathon that puppy for a while.

Thanks for that Breakers update ^^. Excited to check the place out for the first time ever during our stay on Memorial Day wknd -
^ They should run everything, their weather policy is 'we don't care', unless it's thunderstorms. There is zero rain in the forecast, so we should be fine. We're heading up w/ a small group it looks like. I have high hopes the cold temps will keep a lot of folks away, and yes, like last year they are hardly doing any advertisement for it. Last year was awesome. Re-rides galore, no lines anywhere. Walk-ons and re-rides all night. Marathoned Nitro 5xs in a row in the dark from 8:30-9pm last year, the last 3 not getting up from the last row. I really hope Toro is up and not running as crappy as everyones been reporting. What's the over/under on the park having a soft opening for Looping Diablo @ CAD? LOL I know it was reported they were shooting for a Memorial weekend opening, from the photos I saw from last weekend, they were sorting out the old Rolling Thunder queue, they've tested w/ water dummies, I can't imagine there is much else to do. Call me crazy but I could see the park running it with passholders this Friday night.

Forecast for Friday is looking pretty good. Very low chance of rain Thurs-Saturday, with almost nothing on Friday. Looks chilly though - around 50 degrees @ 5pm Friday, dropping down into the 40's by 9pm - hoping that keeps some folks away. If anyone is there and sees me make sure to say HI. Praying this week goes by fast! Agreed. S:UF was my first flyer and I avoided it due to the lines and finally rode it not having to wait at all for the front row @ CAD last year. I could not believe how comfortable it was. We rode it again in June and got "stuck" on the break run for about 10 minutes. Were told they'd have to evacuate us but they eventually got us moving. Even that was not that bad. Vekoma flyers? Hate them.
