  1. Wow, this date came up quickly. I have never visited the park, but it is on my radar now after the addition of Fury. Thunder Road looks like a great, historic ride for the park, and I am a little sad that I won't be able to get the credit.
  2. I'm not so sure about VF or WoF. It seems like every year people believe that they will get a new coaster, when most of the time they just don't want to admit that it's a pipe dream. You don't know what a coaster drought is until your home park is Darien Lake. It makes the Sahara look like the Atlantic Ocean. I wouldn't bet on more than two major coasters chain wide. It almost seems like every year there will also be a park guaranteed to get a Triotech dark ride, a few will get a family flat collection, and one or two will get gypped with general improvements.
  3. Lifts on Vekoma coasters don't age well. They tend to have overheating problems that prevent the motors working at full efficiency.
  4. OCC did create a custom bike for Darien Lake at the same time Motocoaster was announced. They incorporated some theme park elements into the bike such as a Tornado style intake, LED spinning rims (like a ferris wheel), and coaster track going down the bike. It remained on display until two years later, when the licensing deal ended. Then nobody knows what happened to the bike. Source: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4076/4815967161_2cd411784a_b.jpg
  5. It seems that lines have died down quite a bit from earlier. The water park was very popular today, as for the first time I have seen Brain Drains tower full of people. Two trains could have definitely helped lines in-park. Maybe if I stayed longer I could have gotten more done, but with friends bugging me for stupid favors, a girlfriend whining about her stomach, and my brother moving this weekend all created a perfect storm.
  6. The Alvey roll! A downwards vertical loop followed by 12 barrel rolls; and the whole thing is covered in trick track! Get well soon Robb. Is there any estimation of when you'll be back to 100% yet?
  7. I think that they'll end up finishing the job once the park closes for the week once again.
  8. I have worse luck than George Costanza The line was so long earlier though that by now this probably won't help much. My phone is back up and running now so here are my pictures. Remember, these won't be 1080pi quality, as I do not own any fancy cameras and this was taken from my phone. Viper's second train on the transfer and a LONG line Ranger obviously down no sign of demolition yet Silver Bullet was down when this photo was taken. Blast Off also malfunctioned earlier. Rolling Thunder back up. Mind Eraser did have the chassis for the second trains on site (Under the catwalk) Not all supports have been painted yet, only about half. Here is one painted one And one unpainted one right next to it.
  9. For those who like photographic proof: If you guys get a Motocoaster, I must say that they are really fun rides. The one at Darien Lake is one of my higher ranked coasters and it really packs a punch for its small layout. No, just no.
  10. I will try to upload my few photos by tomorrow. My cheap phone is not being recognized when I plug in to my computer. Nothing major if I don't upload though.
  11. Geauga Dog picked the right week not to visit the park. It was MOBBED today. I didn't stay long at all because there were many more events than just Kingdom Bound. There was also a college fair, a blood drive, and a free in-park concert. There was also some seminar or something in Galaxy Theater which I didn't look into. This is easily the busiest weekend so far of the park, and they may have pulled in Cedar Point level crowds today (almost). Rides closed: Ranger Silver Bullet (temporarily) Blast Off (temporarily) Twister Operations were still horrible. Lines for all of the coasters were at least half full. RoS opened most stwitchbacks, Mind Eraser had a full station and part of the queue, Predator the same, and the rest including Viper had half of their queues full. Viper's train (as confirmed) was on the transfer, and Predator's nowhere to be found yet. I took a few quick pictures, but I do not own any fancy cameras or anything, so don't crucify me if they are not in top notch quality. (I will add them later I promise I have something to get to at the moment)
  12. The part I bolded is one of the biggest reasons why I avoid Twister after Motocoaster. To get there, I would need to walk all the way back through Darien Square, and basically make a huge circle around the point I started from. Wasting all that time for a no flip cycle on Twister would be senseless unless something else was back there. The go karts take up a huge chunk of land, which could be extended even past it into the campground area.
  13. Another thing to factor in is that this is a steel structure, which costs more to manufacture than wood. Although most of the TT structure will be used, a good portion will need to be custom built as well.
  14. I prefer Raptor to Great Bear as I found it much more intense and quicker paced. Great Bear to me on my recent visit to Hershey was pretty sluggish and forceless. Plus I had to wait for a group of slow ops. Maybe if I rode again in a different seat I would rate it higher, but in my coaster rankings, it is just in the middle.
  15. The only ride I have an issue with glasses with is Dragster. Last time I visited, I was wearing a sweatshirt and the operator told me to hook them on my sweatshirt backwards so they were in between my shirt and sweatshirt. Typically, I don't have a problem with most rides and glasses. The only other ride I recently had an issue with was Skyrush.
  16. Has your guys' Superman been running a little rough this year as well? At Darien Lake, I think that this year the ride has felt a little bumpier and rattily; although I usually ride in the back. Seeing that these were the first Intamin hypercoasters built, the trains could either use major refurb, or new ones altogether. If anything, I would like to see the trains go away with the current restraints, as my legs always bash against the side brackets. Ive ridden Superman twice this season and it was honestly pretty good. Although this was my first time riding it since 2013. However I feel like superman is starting to creep up the lifthill very slow now. In 2011, we had a chain issue that put the ride down for the last leg of the season. This was the same year that the rider was ejected. So we were out of our star attraction for basically the whole year. The part that failed was custom and took a long time to manufacture, so its possible that SFA is trying to put as little stress as possible on their chain until they can get a backup or replace it altogether in the offseason.
  17. 10 million dollars for WMG is not chump change. Neither is almost 30 million for Leviathan. I would kill for my home park to spend that much money in a 3 season period.
  18. I could list a few, but for me, Crystal Beach. I've heard so many fascinating stories about the place, and one lady described it to me that it was just like Knoebels. Too bad it had to die the way it did, because there were a bunch of unique attractions there that you just don't see anymore.
  19. Viper could be for two reasons. A) The train still needs more testing if it was just put on. B) A Thursday morning is not real busy so the train doesn't necessarily need to be put on. As for Twister, I have mixed feelings about the loss. It used to be something I rode every visit, but now I have not been going on as much. They haven't been running a good cycle on it, there's hardly anyone on the ride, and it is far away from all other big rides. They need something back there so it isn't as much of a dead end.
  20. It happens to every company. They usually offer prototype or early models a lot cheaper, mainly because a park is taking a major risk by buying it. What if it doesn't work? What if it I a maintenance nightmare? What if it doesn't make the park a return? Those are just a few of the big risks taken. Now that we've seen the high quality and high rating products that RMC offers, their price goes up because people will drop big money to have a world class attraction. Plus there's supply and demand. I'm sure for say 6 million dollars, every park would want RMCs either ground up or rebuilds. But, price has to go up so that only parks willing to pay bigger money can pony up the dough for it. RMC can only handle so many projects at once. Plus it wouldn't surprise me if Six Flags gets discounts from RMC for the amount of rides that they construct for them.
  21. I call B.S. on this also and agree that this person was clearly making things up... I don't believe their claim that Six Flags has a maintenance team.
  22. I think that Vekoma would overthink the concept. Instead of airtime hills and overbanked curves, they would probably try to incorporate as many inversions as possible, and that would be unpleasant. If they chose to do things the former way, they could offer a potentially cheaper option for parks who cannot afford the big names.
  23. Cargo shorts with zippered pockets are your friends
