Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

The thing is, The Raven has never finished outside the top 15. For a ride that will be 20 years old in 2 years, it has been able to hold it's own in the polls. It is one of a handful of CCI's, that have actually aged well. As long as HW continues to maintain The Raven, I think they'll be able to claim they have one of the best classic woodies 20-25 years from now. -

I've seen people making comments on the Golden Ticket Awards saying, "So I am guessing HW isn't that friendly any more, and the raven is finally losing its charm on people" and "That is a bit sad for HW." Really!? Cleanest park for the 14th year in the row, 2nd in the friendliest park award, 2nd best waterpark, 3 woodies in the top 20, 3rd best waterpark ride, and the best waterpark ride. Holiday World can't stay #1 in some categories forever and there is no shame in finishing behind some really great parks and really great rides. Now I don't put to much stock into the GTA's (mostly coaster rankings), but I will say that most of these awards are well deserved and go a long way to making HW one of the top value parks in the country. -

^ I was looking at Chance Rides website, and it only listed 48 inches without an adult. It said nothing about a child riding with an adult. I'm wondering if they leave that height requirement up to the park to decide. If so, I think most rides at HW, where a child can ride with an adult is 36 inches. -
^ I'm assuming the park never runs 3 train operation, because without a separate unloading station, it's basically useless. The GP rides The Boss, because it towers over the park and they're attracted to it. Just because they get in line to ride it, doesn't necessarily mean they like it better than American Thunder.

^ I wonder where the restaurant is going to going to be located? I also saw where Paula said that The Mayflower was going have a 48 inch height restriction. I wonder if that is for all riders, or if it will be lower for children that ride with an adult? -

Welcome to the forums! You'll get "quoted" a lot, especially when you post inaccurate information. -

I dont think it was RMC fault, Mt. Olympus gave RMC and Hades a certain budget and only wanted them to do so much Its Gravity Group, and budget aside, their coasters don't age well at all. That's more of where I was coming from. RMC is the company that comes in and fixes all the CCI/Gravity Group coasters. You could probably make a argument that RMC wouldn't exist if it wasn't for CCI/TGG. But that is a argument for another day. -

^^ I kinda felt like the video was taking a shot at all those people who were saying HW is becoming a oversized waterpark and they don't pay attention to the dry side. As for another announcement, that would be awesome! ^ http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/another-interesting-delivery Edit: They played a trick on us! http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/tags/new-2006?page=1 It's a Holiblog from 2005! -

This is what sets Holiday World apart from most parks. I'm glad that they're spending their money wisely, and not throwing a bunch of rides down in a field, without thinking about what the next 10-20 years are going to look like. -

Adding another holiday themed section, would be considered a BIG expansion IMO. With a BIG expansion, I think we would see a increase in ticket prices, unless they're really trying to outdo Kentucky Kingdom. With that being said, I don't think it makes sense to add another themed section, when the Thanksgiving section is not completely filled out. Right now, the section only has 3 rides, with the moving of Girrafica to Splashin' Safari. -

Not now, but after a Boss Rehab. Boss would become a steel coaster, and the park would only have 2 wooden coasters. Plus even though these RMC's are wooden coasters, they have elements you find on a steel coaster, they're smooth like a steel coaster, have little maintenance, and are relatively cheap compared to steel coasters. They're great investments and I could see Six Flags corporate putting them in multiple parks.
-
Quite a bit of money, considering the ride is 27 years old and has probably uses the same trains all 27 years. Six Flags corporate isn't going to spend the money on new trains, they rather just get rid of it for something new. Mr. Freeze is probably tied with Batman as the parks #1 attraction though. It brings them more money than they spend on upkeep. Here's an example, The Voyage at Holiday World is a money pit for the park, but what traditional tracked wooden roller coaster isn't? The thing is, it's their most marketable ride and has gave the park almost the same amount of press that the waterpark has. So essentially, the ride has made them more money than they've spent on it at this point. If the park wasn't on the corporate dog leash, they probably wouldn't have gotten a Boomerang this year.
-
Maintenance is the number one reason why it will eventually be removed. Same reason why Iron Boss will eventually happen. From a business aspect, it doesn't make sense to keep rides that are constantly cutting into your profit, unless the ride is your # 1 attraction. I rather spend the money on a brand new ride that will bring people to the park and won't be a nightmare in 20 years. Seriously, how many people say that Ninja is the reason they go to Six Flags St. Louis?
-
There are so many parks you can hit on the way down to St. Louis. I guess it really depends what you're looking for. Personally, I would hit Lake Compounce for Boulder Dash and Coney Island for the Cyclone in the same day. Then I would hit Six Flags Great Adventure for a full day. After that, I would probably hit Hershey for a full day.

I'm really thinking that we're going to see a major expansion in the dry park and something added to the waterpark. The two dates I'm watching are September, Friday the 13th and September 16th, which was the day the pilgrims set sail to America on the Mayflower in the year of 1620. -

^ No problem man. HW seems to be posting their blogs in bulk lately, so its been kinda hard to keep track of every single one.
