  1. I get enough crappy email (Bill/Student Loan Auto-Withdrawal e-mails, etc). It's great to see emails for fun things, even if I already know what's been happening. The format is nice and minimal which makes it easy to easily see what's happening from my phone which is where I usually check my email. I really wouldn't change a thing. It's really good just to keep TPR on the radar with these.
  2. Yes, Millennium Force is, has been, and always will be, the best steel coaster in the world. Everyone should spend all of their free time at Cedar Point waiting in line and riding it. Me? Sorry, I have a, umm... *ahem* business trip to attend to in Hershey Pennsylvania. Don't mind me. There's no need to go to these other parks. Don't look at the man behind the curtain.
  3. Twisted Colossus Wicked Cyclone Honestly, I'm just going to continue calling them Colossus and Cyclone.
  4. I just spoke with the roommate of the Dippin' Dots guy's brother: RMC steel to wood launched standup conversion confirmed!!! Update the front page, Robb.
  5. There will (probably) be a report to follow but I have to say it: after riding it for the first time today Phoenix is unlike anything I've experienced anywhere else. This ride is a true gem. I hope nothing ever happens to it. Phoenix will always have a position high on my list of rides that I will always go out of my way to ride.
  6. I like the new rides announcements at SFMM and SFNE, but something about this announcement helps with my blood pressure. It's nice to see a little bit of a u-turn from a straight trip into the abyss.
  7. Everyone was talking about Cedar Fair's 1-2 punch's, like Leviathan/Behemoth and Fury 325/Intimidator. It looks like Six Flags wants to play that game. I can't wait to experience the 1-2 Bizarro/Cyclone.
  8. The worst experience I ever had on a roller coaster was on Shockwave at Six Flags Great America. It wasn't the worlds worst in any particular category but it had a healthy dose of everything headbanging which is a requirement. The problem I really had with it was the entire ride experience. Going down the first drop it just felt like I was oscillating left/ride as much as I was moving downwards. You know that weird jerkyness you get on an old Arrow as you transition into a turn or a corkscrew? I felt that even during the straight sections. The best way to describe it is to watch Robb's video on the Manhattan Express. It felt exactly like that for me. The entire experience was just pitiful.
  9. While parks do somewhat keep the coaster enthusiasts in mind, much of their attendance is family and teenagers going on vacation or spending the day off at a park. I am sure not many people even know that there is a 300-foot tall one of these up in Canada and people will come running to this place to ride something with a taller drop than how Windseeker is tall. I think this is a great, solid addition to the park and I really like the idea of them doing an entrance very similar in concept to Cedar Point's (seen on the Bird's Eye View video). Kudos to them! /s I was just being ridiculous. I tried my best to sound like, "A Giga coaster sux compared to an aging Togo standup!" Leviathan is my favorite steel and I'm extremely excited for Fury 325. As an enthusiast I'm always sad to see a ride I enjoy go but the excitement for something new and improved in its place is how parks move forward. Newer isn't always better but sometimes an old ride just has to go for various reasons. See: Big Bad Wolf. I was just trying to write a stupid comment like, "Hurr durr this isn't what I wanted bring back what I like FAIL COASTER." There's so much to like about this. I love the new park entrances with a major steel roller coaster and I'm excited to see a completely new entrance facade. There's so much to be said I could talk all night about it. I like how Cedar Fair is realizing that they don't operate theme parks anymore and just have amusement parks, so they're doing away with half-crapped theming and just making everything look really clean and nice. Cedar Point and now Carowind's new entrance plaza's are proof of that. Rule 1: Whatever you do, do it right. I don't see any wasted money here.
  10. Guys, I am very upset about this announcement. I am not happy with the outcome. They wanted to build an actual game changer that would draw people to the park? Why on earth did they not do the obvious and take SkyRider from Canada's and build it in place of this new fangled piece of junk? That is a real roller coaster that people can get excited about. Carowinds park review: 0/10; next time try a little harder, hmm?
  11. I am wondering the exact same thing. Awesome ride, I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun, looks beautiful. But why? So many other awesome coaster types to choose from... The Wonderland Leviathan/Behemoth combo is awesome. It's a fantastic combo, both individually unique.
  12. Cedar Fair: The masters of the one-two punch. I didn't think anything could top Leviathan but dear lord that layout is incredible.
  13. More trained supervisors, iron workers, etc etc who have technical skills and experience in the firm that won the bid. It's the reason no major project goes up in a day simply because they would want it to.
  14. Even as an adult with no children who often goes to parks alone (Girlfriend and friends are not big theme park people) the older I get the more I seem to get annoyed with Six Flags, and I'm only 25. What I can't tell is if Six Flags markets to this age group simply because they're the only market left to tap into or they created this demographic of guests based on their decisions. Are we too overly obsessed with roller coasters and Six Flags just gives it to us? Did we sacrifice a proper guest experience for just another thrill far too many times and we are reaping what we sow? I think Six Flags, at this point, is far from a reputable park chain. They generate revenue off of their regional collections of roller coasters and they'll continue to make decisions based on how their bottom line increases. I mean seriously, they've been reporting healthy monetary growth, why change?
  15. Full update here on the outcome of the meeting: http://www.yourerie.com/news/news-article/d/story/public-meeting-on-the-future-of-conneaut-lake-park/12509/lX07PKs3pUezukFT4EjcGA
  16. Do we have any information from tonight's hearing? Edit: It appears that yourerie.com will have a full recap at 11 PM EST of the meeting's outcome.
  17. You're right, it is pretty amazing. How you hugged a civil engineer lately?
  18. I actually really like the design; I would love to ride it. However, two LSM launches/low capacity/requires two station crews? It seems like a lot of work to get a ride with not much ROI for the park.
  19. Hoosier Hurricane and a host of flats are closed today. Does anyone know if the coaster is down for good or just the result of a poorly maintained park and will reopen when they get around to it. As a side note Steel Hawg is only running two trains and the one on the circuit is staying consistantly stacked. It's going to be a long day just for a couple rides on my way back to Chicago, folks.
  20. Currently at the Banshee Bash. It's not that anyone is too lazy to post in the thread here about it, we're just too busy getting an insane amount of riding in.
  21. I'm really excited for an entirely new themed area of the park! Did you see that concept art for the Thunderbird plaza and structures they threw in there? This is a jumping point for future expansions and really sets the mood for this ride.
  22. Yes, there is a grouper on Goliath. It's how they're keeping the single rider line operating smoothly. Hank seems to be following Cedar Fair's example and is phasing groupers and single rider lines into the park. I guess all of those surveys I took really did get through.
  23. Less than one day away: according to weather.gov Mason, OH is expected to be sunny with a high of 78 F. It looks like we're going to have a great day tomorrow.
  24. Water parks are as 'Murikan as McBeetus. Americans will wade through hellfire to get to their wavepools and lazy rivers.
