Although I have TPR on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Youtube...I mainly use Facebook. But truth be told I love Youtube the most because of the videos. So I guess Facebook and Youtube tie. -
What was your favorite ride of 2013?
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Top Coasters I rode in 2013: 3) Top Thrill Dragster 2) Apollo's Chariot 1) Intimidator 305 Honorable Mentions: Diamondback, Beast, Millennium Force, Gatekeeper, Intimidator, Afterburn, Volcano: Blast Coaster, Dominator, Wild Eagle, Thunderhead, Alpengeist, Griffon, and White Lightning. -
SeaWorld doesn't need the stupid Bands, Brews, and BBQ anyways. I went there twice and there was no special events going on and it was some of the best theme park experiences I've ever had. They should just cancel the event and don't give the CNN any ammunition since they are totally focusing on this event alone. CNN is driving this whole issue anyways because the more attention they bring to the film, the more money they make off of it. In a sense, they are making money off the Orcas too just like SeaWorld is, so they are no better. They are hypocrites! It's pretty ridiculous on Facebook how these extremists are attacking these bands. They can't even make a simple post without having hundreds of crazies post about SeaWorld. If they were smart, they should block the crazies and report them to Facebook for harassment. Right before .38 Special canceled , they just wanted the harassment to stop...They probably could care less about the situation. These people are crazy and focused to the point of insanity to destroy SeaWorld. It's just ridiculous. You get enough crazies together and terrible things can happen and I'm scared for SeaWorld right now...I'm scared that all the words will turn into action and someone getting hurt because of crazy town. I watched Blackfish the other day on Netflix and watched all the interviews on youtube to get their side of the story and it's really sad how one sided it is. Most of the film seemed to be heading to a logical conclusion until the end when they focused on the protesting...That's where it lost all merit. SeaWorld should sue CNN and the filmmakers. I will not be watching CNN anymore. They are obviously in bed with PETA, and that's just how it is. SeaWorld rocks...Next time I'm there, I'll be sure to flip off the protesters as I enter the park.

I like the new format of questions...especially the random ones. They probably like them too because they probably get bored too death saying the same damn thing all day long. Regardless if they spill the beans on everything or not, it's still cool to see what they do give up. Thanks TPR for the great IAAPA coverage.
-
Thanks TPR for such great IAAPA coverage...It's like Christmas for Amusement Park News. Great new concepts from a lot of companies. I love that we're getting different kinds of coasters like a 500ft El Loco. Why argue what it is called or if it has to be an Intamin or B&M traditional coaster or not...Who cares what it is...Just build it and let me ride it already! Love the news...Keep it coming!
-
Looks like an awesome coaster. They probably wanted an Intamin but Morgan gave them something similar for a far cheaper price...but that's just me guessing, who the hell knows. I'm just happy the park is opening again cause it's only like 4 hours away from where I live. The season pass is a great deal. Looks like using the Six Flags method of selling season passes super cheap to get return visits has caught on. I might be mistaken, but I haven't seen anyone else sell a season pass as cheap as Six Flags does until now with Kentucky Kingdom. I wish all season passes was this cheap. I hope Lightning Run is a great re-ridable ride...With only two coasters, they both need to be those kind of coasters you could ride all day and never tire of.
-
Well hell yeah, give it up to Georgia for being cool and innovative. Never heard of this LakePoint before but kind of happy it's only 3 hours from where I live. I'll definitely be checking this out when it is opened...I just hope it don't turn out to be the world's coolest lift hill with the world's roughest ride down. I'll keep an open mind and hope for the best.

I'm really hoping all the rides go to American parks. I never got to visit this park and I'd really like to ride some of these rides. Time Machine is similar to Kumba at BGT and that's one of my favorite coasters, so it'd be convenient if I didn't have to travel to far to get the credit when it is relocated. The rest of the coasters look like kiddie coasters but I'd ride them regardless if I didn't have to go to far to ride them. Six Flags or Cedar Fair needs to show some of their smaller parks some love, Michigan's Adventure or Great Escape would make a good fit for these coasters imo.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Glad to see the ride get a new theme...The Bat is a lot better than Flight Deck or Top Gun for this ride. I'm hoping when Kings Island's turn comes around again for a new coaster after Banshee they add a RMC wooden coaster to fill in the rest of the space where Son of Beast once stood. I could see this section of the park with a whole haunted theme too it...Could be quite awesome. -
Walt Disney World. It's about a 10 hour drive either way for me to Disney or Cedar Point. Now it's cheaper to go to CP but the money is so much more worth it for the experience of Disney World. When you're at Disney, you just feel like you've reached paradise, well for me anyway, imo. Cedar Point is fun, not going to put it down in any way, but that's all it is, fun. Disney is so much more. The restaurants at Epcot can't be beat when it comes to theme parks. Magic Kingdom is the best park I've ever been too, the experience can't be beat. Hollywood Studios is going to be off the charts when Star Wars land is added and I'm sure Avatar is going to do great things for Animal Kingdom. Also, Cedar Point's Soak City is like a drop in the bucket when compared to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Disney has so much to offer where CP just can't compare. Sorry Cedar Point...you lose on this decision.

BGW TR: My wife and I visited here for the first time this past Sunday. I'd have to say that this is the most beautiful park I have ever visited. I was glad to see that it wasn't near as crowded as Kings Dominion was on the previous day. We had plenty of time to watch some of their shows and ride their rides multiple times. We pretty much skipped over all the flat rides and they had plenty...But I was disappointed that Mach Tower didn't open all day. They tested it multiple times throughout the day, but no dice...Oh well. BGW has a solid collection of coasters, mainly B&M, my favorite. Apollo's Chariot is probably now my favorite Hyper..It used to be Goliath at SFOG, then Diamondback at KI but Apollo's Chariot just seems to have more airtime, we rode it like seven times. Verbolten is a fun ride, not as fun as the B&M's but it had a cool theme...It's a lot better at night, we rode it twice. As for Alpengeist, it is the most intense inverted coaster I've rode, it's probably my favorite until Banshee opens next year at KI. Griffon is just an amazing coaster, the best in the park by far. I love Dive coasters! I only got to ride Sheikra once when I was in Tampa, so I made sure to get multiple rides on Griffon on this trip...So we rode it four times. The lines were never that incredibly long. Operations at this park was pretty nice. The only coaster we didn't ride was the Grover Alpine Express kiddie coaster. I have to say, Loch Ness Monster is a lot nicer coaster to look at than to ride, I'm just not a fan of the older Arrow coasters. We rode it once, that was enough...Although we took plenty of pics of it from the river. Speaking of the river, the cruise was pretty cool. It was beautiful this time of year, and the cruise allowed us to get some great views and pics. We didn't ride the Pompeii ride because it was too cold to get wet, but we did ride DarKastle and enjoyed it a lot. Reminded me of the dark rides at Disney and Universal. Great themeing all around at this park, great rides, great food (Trappers Smokehouse was delicious!), and wonderful atmosphere made this park very pleasing. We can't wait to visit again next year.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
KD TR: This was supposed to be a two day KD trip, but my wife and I decided to make it a one day trip instead and use the second day for BGW...worked out great! We drove all night 10 hours from Alabama to our hotel close to the Richmond Airport and they were nice enough to check us in way early and give us breakfast before we went to KD. Our hotel was pretty much in between both parks, 30 min each way so it worked out perfect. We got to KD at 10am cause I assumed the park was going to open at 10...but only a few rides open at 10. So we rode Dominator over and over until the rest of the park opened. Dominator is the best floorless B&M I've ever rode. Some points of that ride I felt were insanely fast...I loved it! When the park finally opened everything else at 10:30am, we decided to skip the fast lane/fright lane, and just see how much we could get done without it. So, we rode Volcano next, which was our only ride of the day on that coaster because of the long lines, but I was happy to get the credit...It was an awesome coaster. From there, we rode I305 three times in a row and then I had to take a break...My head was spinning. It was cool we were walking up and riding these coasters immediately early in the morning but that didn't last as the day progressed...the lines eventually grew. I'll have to say, out of the nearly 200 coasters I've ridden in my life, I305 is probably my favorite one I've ever ridden. The intensity and speed of it is just incredible...It makes Millennium Force look weak. I have a much better appreciation of Intamin coasters now having rode I305. As for the rest of the coasters, we hit all the big ones early and didn't have to wait long. When the lines started getting longer for the rides in the afternoon, we had almost rode everything atleast once. The only multiple rides we got were 3 times on Dominator and 5 times on I305. The night rides on those were the best. The only coasters we didn't get to ride were Ricochet, Backlot Stunt Coaster and Great Pumpkin Kiddie coaster. I've rode Ricochet at Carowinds and Backlot Stunt Coaster at Kings island so I didn't figure I had missed much. The Crypt was amazing...It was my first Top Spin. I'd missed riding King Chaos at SFGam so I was glad to finally get one of these rides under my belt. We rode a few other flat rides there, they were fun. Windseeker is always a great ride and the berserker and flying eagles are too. Got some incredible pictures up in the Eiffel tower. This time of the year up there is just beautiful. All around a great time at Kings Dominion. We ended our night with a last ride on I305 and it was a great send off. We'll probably be back to this park next year. -

Perfect! I've been trying call them all day and have got no answer...But I'm glad to hear that somebody else got a answer. I'm going to be there Saturday, but I'm still questioning buying a fast lane. There are only 6 coasters out of the 14 on the pass so I'm wondering if it's worth it. Sure I'm going to want to ride Dominator and Volcano a lot, but regardless, I305 is not on the fast lane...So I may just take my chances waiting for the few rides they make you pay extra for. Thanks for calling and getting that info. My outlook on this trip has greatly improved knowing that I305 will be open. -
Well it has worked out so I can finally visit this park for the first time this weekend. I've been to the one in Tampa several times, so I'm really looking forward to checking out this park. They got 3 B&M's so that's enough for me. Just curious though, which rides here have the longest wait times and what are some of the best places to eat in the park? I see the European theme, but something tells me this isn't going to be Epcot level...So I'll hold my expectations back a little.

I called customer service to inquire if they were going to add I305 to the fast lane, and they were told by management that I305 was down and that they had fast lane plus, but discontinued it. I going there Saturday but didn't want to spend $130 for two fast lanes if I305 wasn't on it...But to hear that it wasn't going to run was even more disappointing. I'm hoping they have it running Saturday and that those people were misinformed. -

I just talked with someone who works at KD and they said that I305 is down again. Does anyone know more? Why or if it might be back open this weekend? -

My wife and I are going to Kings Dominion for the first time this coming Saturday and Sunday. Just wanted to know what kind of crowd to expect. We'll probably buy the fast lane for Saturday but figured Sunday crowds would be less and there would be no need. Never been here, so I don't really know what to expect. We went to Kings Island last week and the crowds wasn't that bad at all...all though it was raining which probably helped keep crowds away. Anyways, we're traveling 10 hours to get here, so we're going to spend two days to make sure we do everything the park has to offer. Wished we had enough time for BGW but we only got two days. Thanks for any info. -
I've been to this park twice before and really enjoyed it. I really loved Avatar when it was released and can't wait for the sequels. Really glad Disney is adding this so it gives fans like me of the movie a place to visit and celebrate the film. Disney is going to blow Universal's Harry Potter away when they get Star Wars land added to Hollywood Studios...Avatar is just going to be plus to that. Now all that's left is for Epcot to add something...Maybe something with Iron Man if they can wrestle the rights away from Islands of Adventure.

Trip Report: My family and I got to visit King's Island Haunt Saturday Oct. 5 and stayed the whole 14 hours the park was open. We got to do all the rides, all the haunts, and get a ton load of pics of Banshee but seeing how so many people have already posted pics, I won't bother doing the same. I'm a huge B&M fan so April can't get here fast enough...and yeah, had to whore my appreciation out by buying some Banshee merch. As for the haunt, it was fun...the rain sucked, but what can you do...just deal with it really. This was only my second haunt I've ever been to. Last year, we went to Six Flags Fright Fest and Cedar Fair's Haunt is just better. Six Flags makes you pay for every little thing, Cedar Fair's is all included...Plus there was just more to do. There were like 15 haunts...all basically the same scare tactics, but different themes. We even watched the shows. With the rain, the crowds moved out late night, so we were able to do everything easily without fright lane except for the train ride, I guess the weather shut it down. I'd have to say Slaughterhouse was the best, we did it twice. Holiday Horror was the lamest. I found everyone working the Haunts to be alright, I got no complaints. We also got to ride Diamondback's last ride at the end of the night in the rain...A huge bolt of lightning shot across the sky while we were mid ride...It was awesome. But, they shut it down after that. I like how Kings Island keeps the majority of their rides going in bad weather...A lot of parks don't like Cedar Point...A small breeze, and then everything is dead. Kings Island is a trooper. I understand the lightning shutting things down, but I just find riding roller coasters in the rain fun as hell. Thanks KI for a great day! -

No no no no no no no NO! It doesn't matter to Mr. Mojo because it's most likely not his home park. I would like something decent here, not a forceless B&M. I actually have a Carowinds Platinum pass so it really does matter to me. And truthfully, I don't care if it's a Intamin or B&M...I'll ride it regardless and probably like it. I'm just not going to cry over what the park decides to build. I'm just going to ride it and be happy. I just simply stated that I prefer B&M over Intamin. I wasn't trying to step on any toes here. -

Anyone that complains about Maverick being painful is a complete pussy. It's people like you who will make it so that awesome coasters like a Mega-Lite are never built in America. Honestly, Carowinds should just build a boring B&M giga and save the awesome Intamins for Europe, China, or Japan in a culture where people can appreciate them and not complain like spoiled babies. --Robb That's cool...I'll take that. Honestly, to tell the truth, I rode Maverick more than any other coaster while at Cedar Point. Don't know why, we just ended up at the back of the park most of the time. And I never said I didn't like the coaster, I just said it was a torture device. Hell, I'm a glutton for punishment...I'll ride anything. I still ride Ninja at SFOG every time I visit just because it's a coaster regardless of how it beats the shit out of me, don't care. But I wouldn't say Maverick is the best ride at the park like everyone else said it was. Honestly, I liked Top Thrill Dragster best, and it was an Intamin. But regardless of arguing over stupid stuff, a lot of people love Maverick and I won't criticize it...To each their own. And personally, I'd love to see a mega-lite come to the USA. I hope Kentucky Kingdom gets one like the rumor going around that it might. I'll be there to support it and ride it. I love coasters, I support them all. -

I didn't really care for Mantis. After I got off, I felt that I had been on the toilet for an hour...I couldn't feel my legs.
