Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, very cool. Unnecessary I know but this is the stuff that pulls CP (and cedar fair in general) ahead of Six Flags. Sure all we need are rides, but CP at least attempts to keep the feel of a park, and IMO has done so despite being one of the largest parks on Earth. -

Yeah not to be this guy...but a lot of woodie hate in general I think is just being kinda soft. OK wrong word, but ya know what I mean. If its not smooth then it's a spine smasher and it kills you, but really most woodies just shake. What's wrong with that? Only a few actually beat me up, Hurler and Villian being two obvious ones. Guess it's just how you are, I like a little bit of roughing up! I admit I loved Hercules and Wildcat which may push the standard limits of rough Good point about the traditional layout. We have El Toro's and crazy GCI's that maybe make a "classic" is kinda lame but I find Blue Streak at CP loads of fun! -

"I'm not going to ride Roller Coaster 1, it's not safe!" Haha it sounds silly but some people have those weird phobias! Lol Long as people don't get stuck walking in circles a foot outside the exit when they are redfaced with anger trying to leave I have seen the ages are a bit young here, please tell me these RCT references are not lost! -

Only ridden Hercules, Mean Streak and Raging Wolf Bobs. I honestly can't recall RWB at all. Which in itself says something, rare a coaster leaves absolutely no memory on me. I used to like Mean Streak but the re-track killed it. This sounds insane but it was always a kind of slow/not that great coaster but the shaking gave it some excitement at least. Now its just well, slow and not that great Don't get me wrong, it wasn't anything special to begin with and only 1 out of every 3 rides was any good, but it's a total snoozefest now. Hercules was fun. Yeah yeah it was rough but cmon its wood! Granted it was up there on the roughness scale, probably more than most but whadya want? It was fast, wild, pretty fun. Do I miss it though? Nah -

Top Roller Coaster Myths & Rumors!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite was the rumor that KK killed people via decapitation. OMG I heard someone died on KK because it broke their neck! It was a test dummy that happened on, and afterwards thet started using dummies with no heads It was great because we had a band trip at CP when many of us rode TTD. I asked how is it you were perfectly fine there but KK "kills people" and someone actually said "well you see KK is a little taller, faster and well, it kills people. Ya know those small differences in mph and height make a huge difference yadda yadda yadda" Oi! -

Yes, s'all good. Chillax everyone, me included This is a forum that is actually fun so let's just end all that there and not be overly serious As it was said I'm sure something as major as axle issues and etc would've appeared even sooner. I personally heard rumors that all this was about the infamous "new resraints" people want. Though honestly IDK what you can really do about -2Gs of force. Sure hope they don't slow down the lift. I hated when they did that on El Toro and there was quite a slow down on I305. I want one that just plunges over at those speeds! -

It is a tad odd that other user has 1 post, which means it was the one here in this thread that happens to be "how are you 100% sure?" But hey, I've seen lurkers on other forums that decide to post out of the blue, it is just weird and you keep using the tongue smiley like you are mocking us Indeed I don't care to moderate, and long as Skyrush is up for main park opening I'm happy. -

JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It was a significant improvement. Though I still didn't mind. Went on opening day and maybe my legs were sore for like 30 seconds afterwards but that was it, and no lasting impact. I'm not even in very good shape (at all) so no excuses for others Yes, I havn't heard anything about axles or the cars coupling or anything like that. -

The restraints were really not that bad OK : P Especially later in the year, they seemed far better (barely any feeling at all, and no pain after 4 rides). I heard they went to a slightly softer material. Havn't been following, what's the issues with Skyrush? Please don't tell me we have more I305 type issues that will plague it endlessly Will it be open for May? -

JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sadly I just don't have the time or $$ esp since I have CP and WCB planned. Unless I could do just SDC but still quite a bit of $ to put down and it'd be a waste of a tour spot. I'll just have to wait till 2014 or find some people willing to go to MO/run into a ton of cash -

Actually yes. I think of their topper tracks/rebuilds mostly but also that was just construction, ya know? This is their first totally done ride. It was a ? but no longer! The coaster nerd/historian in me is a bit pained but what can ya say? Progress is a good thing, esp when so much of the GP hate woodies, and a great ride is a great ride! -

Just wow. Can't believe how wow'd Robb and others were. Let's not forget we still have to see IRat in action! Plus the New Texas Giant...RMC are gunna be major players for the future! -

Wow that's a really cool thing to hear The cold irony...the opening DID end up lining up with my time off after all. Though with a general "march" date no way I could've risked it, and had to plan my vaca days a few weeks ago. Damn. Ah well, 2014 a road trip is on order! It may just end at SDC me thinks! For what it's worth, 2 members at CF have ranked Outlaw Run 2/723 above El Toro and 6/266 above Voyage Ho-ly crap -
What will be the FIRST coaster you ride in 2013?
JJLehto replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lucky sonuvabiznatch I assume it'll be Skyrush at Hershey for me, unless my friend in CT gets up and finally wants to go to SF:NE. -

I have to wait until 2014 to ride it. How's that? : P -
I disagree and think it makes the ride a bit cooler but I do agree about the quoted part. I KNOW I KNOW. Shame on me for believing a Six Flags rumor, and it didn't seem realistic to have a record breaking terrain epic...but still I am a bit let down by what this ride ended up as. Again, my fault but when I heard "multi launch terrain coaster" while it's accurate, I wanted to much more.

How do you make a straight/good lift hill? Probably n00bish I know but mine are always way too steep. I adjust it but that messed up the bottom curve. Tired making it follow the grid (like up 1 over 1, up 1 over 2, repeat) but it's quite painstaking. Is it this tedious? There must be a way to make straight lifts simply.

Not being able to wait until later...I can't even think of going here till 2014! I figured the empty train POV didn't do it justice and indeed I was right, with people in we really see the speed it moves at! I envy you Robb! -

Yeah it's gunna be a 2014 trip for me sadly.... Though if I'm going that far out, might as well hit Hades, erm Hades 360, before it totally falls apart, and get The Voyage on the way back Same, dying to see Robb's report and POV!
