  1. Kings Dominion is a great park. It's the best amusement park in the DC-MD-VA area. Great operations and the lines move quick. Six Flags America sucks when its crowded. I-305 is one helluva coaster. Robb said its height of Millennium Force, but has the intensity of Maverick. I went to Kings Dominion last week and my eyes still haven't recovered. Volcano is okay. Lots of zero-g twists. Dominator is one of the best floorless coasters I've ridden. Better than Bizarro and Hydra. Anaconda is a good Arrow. Dominion also has some good wooden coasters. The airtime on Grizzly is amazing. If you visit, I suggest riding Volcano and I-305 when the park opens. The crowd usually flocks to Dominator in the morning.
  2. I might take advantage of the early entry for Maverick. B&M coasters are high capacity and have quick lines. Makes sense. I'll take it into consideration.
  3. What makes Phamtom's Revenge so good? Seeing the image of the second drop is legend among coaster enthusiasts.
  4. Talon is one of my favorite inverts. Everytime I went to Dorney as a teenager, I rode the coaster at least five times. In my opinion its one of the best inverts around. Batman at Great Adventure is my second favorite. Great Bear at Hershey is great, but the layout is whack.
  5. That's almost $600 per person. I can tell Cedar Point is not a cheap trip. It costs almost $200 in tickets and FL+ per person. That's only for one day. Because of this we decided to look offsite. If we splurge on the FL+ for one day, we are going to be exhausted for the ride home. Cedar Point is one of those bucket list adventures. We might consider Kennywood as a road stop.
  6. I'm late to this trend, but excellent trip report. I'm planning a Cedar Point road trip with my college roommate, who's also a coaster fanatic. We went to Kings Dominion over the weekend and I came up with the idea of doing a Cedar Point road trip. He agreed with the idea, only if he can get off work and finances permit, since FL+ is in our budget. It's about a seven hour road trip from Washington DC. We are also looking at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Flight 93 memorial as road stops. Our plan is to go on a weekend in either July or August, leaving Friday and coming back Sunday. I'm also from the Philadelphia area (Methacton High School) and grew up going to Dorney Park and Hershey Park. I've been to Great Adventure several times, but Kingda Ka always breaks down when I'm there. My favorite coasters as a kid were Storm Runner and Talon. I rode Hydra the day it opened in 2005. I don't go out to theme parks that much anymore because of finances. Once I start working, I'll probably start making pilgrimages to Hershey Park and Great Adventure again. We are also considering going next season instead and save up more money to stay on site, probably Memorial Day Weekend, and spend two days there instead of one. Most people recommend staying multiple days at Cedar Point. Our initial plan was to splurge FL+ for one day. Based on reading the forums, it seems like two days is as must. Maybe we'll check out Soak City on our second day. I wish Cedar Point and Soak City would merge into one park. One question. We are trying to get a gauge in finances. What were the cost estimates for the vacation to stay onsite for two days. The weekend trip concept is going to cost $300 each, including FL+.
  7. Nope. Always expect school trips and concerts at this time of the year.
  8. GREAT ADVENTURE 2017 OR 2018 COASTER? There are rumors swirling Great Adventure is in the running to get a Justice League Dark Ride. Six Flags is planning to build two. Screamscape is reporting Magic Mountain will get one of them. Great Adventure might be the second park in consideration. It'll probably be placed in the old simulator building on the Boardwalk. In addition, Six Flags might be working with RMC to build their first "TRex" system coaster, aiming for a 2017-2018 opening. The track is a large single beam, almost like a monorail. It's going to be a steel coaster creation, not a hybrid of wood and steel. RMC presented this at the recent IAAPA convention in Orlando. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] Great Adventure is the only major park without an RMC.
  9. Where are they clearing land? I was at the park yesterday and I didn't see anything.
  10. I went to Kings Dominion yesterday. The crowds were decent. Most of the coasters had an average 20-30 minute wait. We started off with Intimidator 305 and rode the coasters in the vicinity before going to wooden coasters and Dominator. There crowds went to Dominator when the park opened so we decided to start in the back and loop around. We left the park at 5pm. Ride count: Intimidator 305 x2 Flight of Fear x1 Volcano x1 Avalanche x1 Backlot Stunt Coaster x1 Rebel Yell x1 Grizzly x1 Dominator x1
  11. RMC is coming to Cedar Point. Start planning a pilgrimage in 2017.
  12. How about the weather? I don't want to spend $300 in the Cedar Point infamous rain.
  13. Although an official date has not been set in stone, me and a friend are planning to visit Cedar Point on August 20th. We are driving from the Washington DC area. It looks like its a weekend trip (Fri-Sun). Fast Lane Plus is part of our budget ($330 each including hotels, admission, and FP+). How are the crowds at that time of the year? Would it be packed in which Fast Lane is needed, or the crowds start to thin out because school is about to start? We are also planning to visit Kings Dominion this weekend. Does other Cedar Fair parks offer discounted coupons to Cedar Point?
  14. I'm heading to Kings Dominion with a friend this weekend. How are the crowds on Saturday at this time of the year? We are trying to hit all of the roller coasters to get our credits in. Which one should I start with?
  15. Depends...if you are getting a little sick of Six Flags over Georgia, then come on up.
  16. pshhhh....i wore my michigan gear. got quite the banter from the students GO BLUE!!!!
  17. Fly into Cleveland. Detroit is a good second choice (45min further) if it's a better flight or cheaper. You will need a car, no other option is economical or practical. Park hotels can be expensive, but have perks like early entry and the convienence of taking a break or a dump (let's be honest) in your own, walking distance room, can be priceless. Hotel breakers went under extensive renovation and is great. Lighthouse Point is good to for bigger parties. Sandcastle suites is a little dated and run down. Breakers express is a typical motel, which has perks but is off site. There are some suitable hotels in Sandusky, if you must. The Fast Lane Plus is around $100 on a weekend, budget for it if you must ride everything. if you are on a budget and want to include Fast Lane Plus, I suggest staying off site. a 15-30 minute drive into the park won't hurt. I would rather see the park skyline from the causeway every morning.
  18. Agreed. I'd do a trip down to Kings Island for sure. It's not to far of a drive, and if you have a rental car with you, it would be worth the trip!!! Talk with Guest Services at Cedar Point. You might get discounted tickets at Kings Island. They are sister parks.
  19. Fly into Cleveland, rent a car, head to Cedar Point. I'm planning a road trip to Cedar Point in August with my college roommate from Washington DC. We are staying in a hotel near Sandusky, mainly to save money. It depends on your preferences. If you are going with a family, I suggest staying on site because of the amenities. If not, I'd stay off site. Hotel Breakers would be an extra 200 dollars per night. For two nights offsite, the price range is around $265 - $333 per person. Theme park tickets, fast lane, and hotels are accounted into this. This is between two people. These are based on my calculations. If you are planning to go with more friends, it might be a little cheaper. Depends if you want to share beds haha. Consider the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in your visit.
  20. The park constructed footers for Top Thrill Dragster before the 2002 season and started vertical construction in the fall. Cedar Fair tends to start really early on their projects and get much of the structure done before the harsh winter arrives. This is also done to get the ride tested in March and have it ready before opening day.
  21. I like how in this layout the entrance is right next to Blue Streak. The wooden coaster needs a little more love and will definitely bring the crowds back in that section of the park.
  22. Disney is building Avatar land at Animal Kingdom and big plans are coming for Hollywood Studios. Fans are talking in the forums about a 5th theme park coming in 2021 for the resort's 50th anniversary. A fifth park is not coming until attendance swells at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios altogether. All the promotion and events for the 50th birthday celebration will be at the Magic Kingdom. It's not easy to find ways to boost Animal Kingdom's attendance because of its theme and Hollywood Studios attendance is dwindling with the Harry Potter attraction at rival Universal Studios that's driving Disney guests away for a day. From what I have heard, Imagineers are planning a large makeover at Hollywood Studios. The Backlot tour just closed for good and its predicted an expansion of Pixar land will replace it with a Cars or Monsters Inc attraction. It's going to be similar to the additions at California Adventure. But the crown jewel of the expansion is a Star Wars Land where Star Tours and Indiana Jones are located. There are reports construction and additions will expand into the parking lot. It looks like Disney is planning a knockout response to the Harry Potter park at Universal. According to Disney officials, the plans are ambitious. If that succeeds, Disney might make plans to open a fifth park at around 2026.
  23. It's a great addition to the park. The park should start planning a major new roller coaster. It's long overdue. Not one of those second hand ones from other Cedar Fair parks. The park has room for 2-3 brand new roller coasters. A major steel coaster (B&M or Intamin) can be placed between Stinger and Steel Force and a small wooden coaster like Blue Streak can be tucked in behind the large Wave Pool and Thunder Canyon. Thunderhawk needs to get retracked. Great Adventure might be constructing a major new coaster in 2016 so Dorney Park needs to plan something to keep up with the competition.
  24. Dorney Park needs to build a new coaster for 2016 to keep up with the competition with Great Adventure since they are also probably expecting a new coaster for 2016.
