Best & Worst Refurbished Coasters
JRHcoasterki replied to sportscapper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I need to get to Kennywood! My sister is in college in Pittsburgh so it is possible I could get there sometime soon! They don't have the biggest coaster selection, but what they have seems great! Anyway, back on topic. Best: Probably New Texas Giant, and iRat for next year. Rocky Mountain took/is taking 2 pretty bad wooden coasters and making them awesome. Can't complain! Also, while this wasn't really a refurbishment, when the older Premier coasters had the OTSR's replaced with lap bars. I heard that the OTSR'S were pretty terrible and I always love seeing companies trying to improve their rides, and making pretty good rides great rides. Worst: I'm not sure... -

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
JRHcoasterki replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Pleasant Surprise: Bizarro at SFGAdv. I thought it was just going to be okay, but I really enjoyed it! It was really fun! I also thought that the few little touches like the fire and mister were nice. Unpleasant Surprise: Incredible Hulk. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good ride. It was just a little too rough. Especially for a B&M. And yes, I did sit in the back which could have made it worse, but I don't think I should have to sit in a certain row to get a good ride. -
The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
JRHcoasterki replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unpleasant Surprise: Incredible Hulk Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a fun, intense ride. It was just unnecessarily rough. I did ride in the back, but I shouldn't have to ride in the front to get a smooth ride. Pleasant Surprise: Bizarro (SFGAdv) I had heard mostly mediocre reviews of the ride, but it ended up being one of my favorite rides at the park, just because it was pure fun! I also enjoyed the few little special effects it had, I thought they were a nice touch. -
Hey guys! This is my first trip report! Sorry there are no pictures! I got my camera a week after the trip. Anyway! Thought I would post this TR because it was my first visit to SFGAdv, and I thought some of you might be interested in hearing my thoughts. Here you go! The park: Overall, it's a good park. Not the best park by any means, but it has a great coaster selection! The clientele is iffy, but could have been worse, so I'm not complaining! I went with my mom and brother, and they both had a good time. My mom only went on two rides though, she said "There are no non-scary rides!" Lol! Operations were not very good, which was frustrating. Food was REALLY bad, I understand this is an amusement park, but it tasted like cardboard! Overall though, good park. Rides: B:TR: First batman clone! Yay! Sat back row! (Which turned out to be a theme throughout the day) Really great ride! I loved it's forceful-ness and the fact that it never lets up until it hits the brake run! Strong ride! The Dark Knight: x2 Eh, it was fine... It just amuses me though that they tried to make a themed ride, but they put the theming in the wrong spots! It was on the SIDE, so you couldn't actually see it! My brother, who is not an enthusiast at all, even said that the theming wasn't very good! Also, something I noticed, I felt like it wasn't dark enough. But, the theming wasn't lit enough. Does that make sense? The ride was fine for what it was. Nitro: Awesome ride! I really love B&M hypers, (guilty!) and I think this was my favorite! We sat back row, so the helix was super awesome intense! Only critical thing is that it needs a paint job pretty badly! Skull Mountain: x2 Strange ride! But in a good way! The drop really took me by surprise, but after that it didn't really do anything. And the theming was pitiful! I liked it though, just because of its unique-ness. Bizarro: x2 This was one of our favorites of the day for some reason, I loved the corkscrew over the mister and I actually liked the audio! I did notice that one train rattled significantly more than the other. Runaway Mine Train: Ouch! This hurt! I did like the airtime hill over the lake though... Saw Mill Log Flume: This was really fun! Just genuine fun! I loved all the little drops thrown in there, and I liked that most of it was elevated. Fun fun fun! Rolling Thunder: I hated this so much. It HURT. El Toro: OMFG! INSANE! We were in the back row and the airtime was crazy! On the "infamous" airtime hill, I felt like I was going to fly out, and that was WITH the lap bar stapling me in! Awesome ride! Kingda Ka: This rattled so much! The launch was cool, but I didn't really like it... I want to get on TTD so bad! Apparently it is so much better. Superman: Ultimate Flight x2: My first flying coaster! The pretzel loop rocked! Can't imagine what it's like on Tatsu. My only issue with this ride is that it got pretty boring towards the end. Green Lantern: I guess we got a really good ride on this, because most people don't like it as much as me. It was our last ride of the day, and it was great! I loved the stand-up feeling, and I got no head banging whatsoever! We had a really good day at the park, and I can't wait to go back next season! P.S. Please tell me what you think! I want to hear feedback so that I can make my TR's better! Hopefully on my next TR I will have some photos! Thanks in advanced!

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I don't understand why CP and KI can't have similar rides. The thing is, my hometown is Cincinnati, OH. (I currently live in NYC.) So technically, my home park is KI. Anyways, NONE of the people I know around the Cincinnati area go to Cedar Point, and most of them don't even know what it is. So, I don't find it weird if both parks have a Windseeker etc.. -

I'm just going to say, that even if a ride is a "classic", it's going to get old, it's going to become a maintenance nightmare, and it's going to have to be scrapped at some point. So I say, why not scrap these old, rough coasters now, before they become COMPLETELY un-rideable. -

Chadster's Vacation Adventures: Final Edition!
JRHcoasterki replied to chadster's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great TR! Awesome pictures! Those nighttime shots are fantastic! And I have to say, Iron Shark looks pretty cool with that lighting package. It was interesting hearing about how IS was a little rough, I hear that about quite a few of Eurofighters. It seems like the park has potential, so hopefully they lower their prices, and, like you said, acknowledge that their clientele is the locals. -

I vote Pleasureless Pier! -
RANT: I know this is what everyone is talking about, but it just baffles me why SFMM didn't go with something more along the lines of Projekt Helix. Well, I guess I do understand, like stated earlier they have to sell the "Extreme" factor... But it's just, they took out a ride that a lot of people loved (I haven't been to the park, so I can't say if I loved the ride), and then had a good amount of land to make an awesome, terrain hugging coaster. Instead, they went with FT, which is just... well, almost annoying. And don't even get me started on their planning process for this ride, I'm going to say it was along the lines of "Okay, so we have a ton of land, let's not use it! Oh I know, let's make the world's tallest vertical loop and put a hill over it! Oooh, YOLO is in right? Let's put that in the ad! We can totallllyyy cater to the 10 year old's!" And last but not least, "Oh, shucky darns! We need a third launch, I KNOW, let's put in a backwards launch that goes right into another forwards launch! That way we can make a capacity nightmare, into MORE of a capacity nightmare!" END RANT So, that was probably the most pointless post in the history of posts, but I just needed to get that out.
