  1. If they could re-use the mountain, it would great to use the mountain for a dark ride, but from what I've heard the problem was mostly the mountain itself, so the mountain will probably be coming down with the ride. Its anybody's guess as to what KD will add next. B&M inverts aren't that common to build anymore. Only one has been built in America in the last 10 years. Source: https://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&ml=6717&page=1&order=-8 I think that the better money would be on a dive coaster, traditional B&M hyper, or wing coaster. Or they'll just add some kind of kiddie area. sincerely doubt they would put a Hyper *right next to* I305. and would be genuinely shocked if they installed a Dive Coaster (not that it woudln't be a good fit for the park, as they don't have a coaster of that style. . but because it's so close to Griffon at BGW just up the street). at this point, I think many would be happy if they just put a bathroom over there.. but I really think it's likely gonna be a flat / flats going in that spot, as that area of the park is pretty coaster heavy. but hey, what do I know? Sorry to see Volcano go, but I understand why . . and I'm just glad i got a chance to ride it a few years ago. I wasn't saying that they would put it right next to i305. Did I say that? In my suggestion, they put somewhere in the park that's not right next to i305. And there's precedent: every other Cedar Fair park that has a giga also has a hyper... for whatever that's worth. And even if they didn't find any room other than i305, a traditional B&M hyper would be a totally different ride than i305. I305 is all G-force and tight banks/turns, while a more traditional B&M hyper would be about bunny hills, floater air, and getting to have a clambar. Volcano is right next to I305 the conversation is what was going to go in place of Volcano -- implied by your talk of what they would do with the Mountain. and Kings Dominion has a huge kids area already (including a Jr. woodie in Woodstock Express). have you not been to this park?
  2. did y'all see MM guest star on Hell's Kitchen on the finale Friday? Ramsey "closed down the park" to allow the two finalists (and their families) to have the park to themselves and ride the 19 roller coasters!!! (LOL..but then the only one they showed was "viper"). Ariel and Mia - the two finalists - went on and on about how they love roller coasters, and are enthusiasts. . . and got "excited and scared" when they were told they would be the 1st two of the general public allowed to ride the brand new coaster "Full Throttle" yeah. wonder how long ago they filmed this? tho, it looked like the coaster had been open for a long while, so more likely Ariel and Mia like roller coasters, but just aren't enthusiasts, and had no idea how long the ride has been open. no worries regardless, as they didn't get to ride, it turned out that once they went behind the "construction walls" it was a cooking challenge in the entrance plaza of the ride, as the coaster zoomed overhead. so it was laughable, but I guess good exposure for SFMM
  3. we did, I think 14+ hours on the TPR trip last year. . and it still wasn't enough.

  5. Thanks Bert, your advice for Kennywood was spot on last year, so we will definitely be doing "Racer". While it is disappointing that Volcano will be gone, we picked KD for this years trip (along with BGW) because they have an excellent line up of rides. I'll be on this thread in a month or so asking for further tips and general preferences. I was in the minority of the group on the TPR trip in that I didn't care for Twisted Timbers (I only rode it once during the day, and skipped the evening ERT) -- the extreme ejector air is a bit too much for me, and I found it painful. Could have been that I was just stapled in a bit too tight, not giving me enough room against the rubber restraint? But the rest of the group seemed to love it, it just wasn't for me. LOVED the inverted 1st drop tho. Racer 75 (aka: Rebel Yell) was an extremely pleasant surprise, so that's why i mention it. Loved, loved, loved Dominator - here's Robb's video of it from our trip: (train full of TPR folks! - I'm back right - we were asked to keep our hands down for the filming of this particular ride, just FYI, if you're wondering why none are up) [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] but I think my favorite coaster in the park was I305. The nighttime rides were insanely fun (keep those butt cheeks clenched on the first helix to not grey out. . LOL). The rides were so awesome, I purchased the on ride pic as a magnet for my fridge:
  6. um.. whut? are you talking about BGT?. . cause you know, Tampa isn't in Virginia. He's not, some plans leaked for the BGW 2020 project coaster earlier in the day yesterday too funny, since I actually googled BGW looking for news before responding, assuming I had missed something. doesn't seem anyone is talking about it..not even in threads here. but ok.. . guess something for folks to spin wheels about - a use for the Drachen Fire station! Back to KD tho. . .

  8. don't skip Racer. ..the retracking they did had it running AMAZING in the summer of 2018. (sure it's just an out and back racing woodie. . but man, was it fun. . and in the rain it was *flying*)
  9. a real shame, but I guess if it's sitting there SBNO for most of the season, the mechanical issues must be a nightmare to deal with. so this is now the 2nd super unique coaster (the other being Hypersonic) that Kings Dominion tried with, and eventually just had to give up on. I really liked this coaster, and glad I got to ride it, but have faith that KD will put something unique and neat in that position (tho wouldn't surprise me if a flat goes in there, since that area of the park is so "coaster heavy". .and no guarantee it would get replaced with a similar ride - ie: coaster ). Hell, they could put in a bathroom over there (the area *really* needs one), since KD already has such a great coaster lineup. I am super sad that Volcano is leaving before FoF, as the midcourse brakes on that just kill the flow of the ride, and didn't enjoy it much on either of my trips. . . . tho it DOES seem to be popular with the public based on lines for it that I've seen, and the announcement does mention "Guest satisfaction" FoF *is* right next to Volcano tho. . imagine how much space that would open up if both went out
  10. this has been a great report, with some fantastic photos. thanks so much for sharing with us, Andy!
  11. If you do want to do the low capacity, non-Fastpass Fantasyland dark rides, I'd recommend starting with those. But I totally don't blame you if the allure of superior rides like Space Mountain win out. I'll chime in and say, yes, they are low capacity, yes they are not the "best" rides at DisneyLand. . but absolutely hit Fantasyland early, and make sure you take a spin on Mr. Toad, and (especially) Alice in Wonderland. they are considered classics for a reason, and who doesn't like going to hell (mr. Toad) on a bright and sunny morning at Disneyland.
  12. BWAAAA-HAAAAA-HAAAAAA fantastic report from what must have been an incredibly frustrating day. but you made the most of it, and got some good pics. shame about the two big coasters (and all the other rides) closed, but the two coasters are the highlights there - at least I thought so. . . but now, if we ever go to Mexico City, will make it a point to ride the flume too. (not a Himalaya fan, tho Cosmotron at Knoebel's is fun, and is really the only one I'll ride).
  13. LOL. . if I ever show my spouse that map, my chances of convincing him to go are over he's way too cautious to go somewhere when it says "reconsider travel".. but I'm working on him! (I did get him to go to the Ruins in Belize (which were SPECTACULAR), when we were on a cruise. . . and we also stopped on Cozumel and he was OK with that, as long as we stayed on official cruise group tours)
  14. ^^ yeah, that's gonna be my suggestion too. not the hotel, but the park. I'd call the park to ask if they have any suggestions for your situation? (they might be willing to hold your bags at Guest Relations, or offer you a large storage bunny up near the front of the park). . . or point you to the Hotel. it used to not be an issue, but in this day and age? not so sure a hotel would allow a non-staying guest to leave unattended bags. but you are going into the park, and the hotel is associated with the park.... . . so maybe check ahead via phone to see what storage options are.
  15. note, I live in Texas. . . and have for 47 years. My Dad used to do every Summer, a drive down to Brownsville, we'd cross the border into Nuevo Leon, and then hop on a plane (paid for in pesos) for family vacations. So I'm actually really well traveled in Mexico (Guadalajara, Acapulco, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Cancun, Puerta Vallarta.. all multiple times) .. the spouse on the other hand? not so much. the issue is that in Texas, we get a lot of the news about brutal crime going on in Mexico, and in particular around Mexico City. so your point is taken, and note I agree with you (I'm trying to convince him to go), but I understand his concerns. I brought it up over dinner tonight, and he completely shot me down. I don't believe in being so scared of things that you let it impact your enjoyment of life - and i LOVED the museum in Mexico City, the Pyramids, and I've never been to SFMexico. . so I'm gonna keep working on him for the next several months

  17. thanks for the report! Six Flags Mexico is one we're really love to visit, tho my Spouse is so wary about going to Mexico as an American Citizen (even tho Austin has direct flights now via Southwest Airlines). how long is the trip from Mexico City to the park? 20 minutes? (thinking of maybe squeezing in a 3 day trip this year . .if I can convince him. . .to Mexico City: 1 day museums, 1 day Six Flags, and 1 day maybe out to the pyramids (but more likely just hanging out near hotel, or going to catch a game of Jai alai -- something I did back in the 80's when there, but Nick has never seen).
  18. great report, and thanks so much for the pics of Tropical Hideaway. looks like a fantastic place to stop, and get some of those treats. . and agreed, the use of jungle cruise boats to add to the environment is brilliant.
  19. 1 Mack, one B&M, 1 Togo, and the worst? a GCI that one is so bad, I chose to sit and watch Mennonites rather than ride it (again) while the rest of my group did. and still happy with that decision
  20. ooo. that was HARD. But will admit that only 2 "new in 2018" coasters cracked my top 10, but at least one "new to ME" coaster did as well. I know it's all up to personal preference, but I really just focused on the top 25, and then the bottom 10. . everything else I just stuck in the middle. Funnily enough, my bottom 10? 5 are Vekoma, and strangely only one Arrow go figure
  21. ah, to be young. . . (Tokyo DisneyLand/DisneySea has been top of my bucketlist since the year it opened)
  22. this sounds like a fun read. I have several friends living in Tampa who always do HHH as well as the local haunts, so I've heard lots of stories. but I really enjoy "behind the scenes" books, so added this to my list to pic up. thanks for the heads up.
  23. I don't seem to have a pic of the new sign, but I'll make sure to take one next time I'm in park. but here are some shots of the Grand Carousel in it's current (new-ish) location, with it's complete refurbishment/new paint from recent visits: and will update with Crime Wave as they actually get it going - currently Whirlygig is just in pieces (have some pics of that in my recent reports too. . but they certainly aren't exciting in terms of process yet)
