  1. Bolliger & Mainland both got their start working for Giovanola. Definitely some history between the two companies.
  2. I wish I was there for wine and food. We're going to be out in April and I think wine and food is in October. I appreciate the help!
  3. Yeah, we're booked at Art of Animation.
  4. I'm a fan of all of it to be honest, but with Disney I tend to move towards the dark rides. This is one of those deals where we are actually heading to Orlando for a cruise that leaves on Monday. I figured that we might as well swing out early and spend a few days at Disney as neither of us have ever been there. I fully understand that I'm not going to get the full experience in only two days, so I'm looking at this as more of a sampling trip. Overall thought I like the plan you've laid out there. Looking way ahead it looks like Magic Kingdom will have extra magic hours on the Saturday we're there, so I'm thinking that we can take advantage of that. I grew up in LA and went to Disneyland all the time. Even now I still am there at least once every other year. Considering that this is going to really be a chance just to peak at all the parks, Magic Kingdom seems like it would have the least to offer me. That being said, I still want to see it, and in a perfect world wish I could spend some more time there.
  5. I'm planning a Florida trip for next year and the wife and I will end up with two days in Orlando. Right now we're not planning on renting a car in Orlando (the main portion of a trip is a cruise out of Port Canaveral) so we're planning on being dependent on shuttles. Current plan is that we're going to spend a full day at Epcot, and then take a second day just to get a quick sample of Hollywood Studios, Wild Animal, and (probably the least important to me) the Magic Kingdom. Considering that I'm looking at doing three parks in a single day, how quick is it to move between them? Also for those of you who have done it, is this completely unreasonable? I realize I'm not going to get a full experience in a single day, I'm more so looking for a glimpse at what the other parks have.
  6. I got stuck on the lift of Riddles once and we had to take the stairs down. That freaked me out, but more so the hiking down stairs part. I've had a failed launch on Superman once, plus a few times going through the station to the emergency brakes. That never really caused an issue for me.
  7. When Goliath first opened I remember them having all sorts of problems with the wheels coming apart. Had nothing to do with it being maintained. Things happen, I'm guessing this doesn't have anything to do with poor maintenance.
  8. Can't agree with this enough. I spent about a year working at the park and always tried to do the best I could. I'm sure there are a lot of other people who do the same.
  9. I'm going to disagree here and say that if SFMM is going to be syncing the trains it will absolutely be software based on the lift. I doubt the cost would be that much to get the lifts programmed to accomplish this task not to mention that the cost of having to employee the extra people to get the job done will certainly be higher then hiring people to work in the station to get things lined up.
  10. Problems is that short term those things aren't things that can be advertised.
  11. I would argue though that a park would only remove a ride if it necessitated removal. There are a lot of reasons why you can remove a ride, ranging from loss of profitability of the attraction, maintenance, ride rotation program, shortage of space to build a new attraction, and so on. I can't imagine that a park would take an investment the size of a roller coaster and remove it simply because they can.
  12. SFMM would never remove a coaster, that's one less they can count. Flashback Psyclone Deja Vu Those coasters don't count?
  13. I think it's a bad ride--one of B&M's worst (outside of the stand-up coasters). And, yes, I dislike it for the other two reasons, as well. Scream has always seemed like a very ho-hum ride. I don't think it's a bad ride. I just don't think that it's a good ride. If there isn't a line it is worth a ride, but I've never really waited more then a few minutes for it. Personally it always felt like a last minute decision to put Scream in the park (and I had decent sources back when it was built who told me the same thing). As far as Standup's go, I've only been on a few, but I've always thought that Riddlers is a solid ride.
  14. My understanding is that Viper is still a popular ride that is fairly reliable. No reason for the park to consider removal. Same goes for Ninja. The ride is safe until the cost to maintain it exceeds the rides ability to be profitable. I would be curious to know how the profitability of a coaster is determined long term. Initial season or two I'm sure this is easy enough. Not sure how you would do it for a twenty year old ride.
  15. She's so cool, she was to cool to stop to say hi to my VIP group. Asked the tour guide if we/I'd get some meet and greet with the park's manager. She pointed out that we walked right past her. First time I go to SFMM I got snubbed by batman (no high five). On a VIP tour get snubbed by park's president. Classic SFMM it seems. Uhm...I don't really think there is a VIP tour at ANY park that involves a meet & greet with a park president/GM. I very much dislike SFMM, but the "ice queen" nickname is seriously one of the dumbest things that has come across this thread. Also, Tim Burkhart is VP of Maintenance and Construction for all of Six Flags now. Can't agree more, I hate the entire ice queen nickname. I'm not sure where the reputation comes from, and the expectation that she would go around greeting every group in the park is absurd. It's like me going to McDonalds and expecting Ray Kroc (ignoring that he has been dead for like 30 years) to come sit with me and ask how my burger is.
  16. There is one picture that makes it look like there is some damage to the lower part of the ride. Is that the case or am I seeing derbies that collapsed from the top of the ride.
  17. I'm curious how much of a delay (if any) this is going to cause. I'm guessing that there is going to be additional wood that needs to be cut away because of damage.
  18. That's one way to do demolition. Watching the TV feed, looks like a decent size potion at the top of the ride has collapsed.
  19. I've got a few friends posting on Facebook that Colossus is on fire? Any truth? http://ktla.com/2014/09/08/firefighters-respond-to-report-of-fire-at-magic-mountains-colossus-roller-coaster/ Apparently it is.
  20. When I worked at the park we had a shortage of radios and had to use our phones for communication if there was an issue.
  21. I'll believe it when I see it. As is I've got a hard enough time riding coasters due to motion sickness issues, and the thought of this makes me queasy. If things get even the slightest bit out of sync (anybody who has ever done a motion based ride where the video and motion aren't perfectly in sync will know this to be true) I think you're looking at a vomit event of cataclysmic proportions!
  22. I'm already worried about motion sickness, I don't see a universe where I could handle something like this.
  23. I'm impressed that they have a target opening date of Spring 2015. Even if the project is delayed, I think a lot of us here thought that 2016 was a real possibility for opening the ride.
  24. This would be such a great chance to really revitalize the back area of the park. Not that they will, but the opportunity is there. All things considered, I think this will likely be the best ride in California by a pretty sizable distance.
