Rumor has it that once the park saw how much over-budget Rougarou ended up, they pulled the plug on the conversion. Looks like nothing is going to be happening to Vortex at the moment, neither a relocation nor a conversion. From what I've heard, was the park shelved the project in favor of Mass Effect 4D.

Favorite attraction never made?

My vote would be the proposed Knott's Theme Park in Old Sacramento next to the railroad museum. Here is the proposal submission: http://www.records.cityofsacramento.org/ViewDoc.aspx?ID=s6tFBnt4W+L9MlKqmrwNazJGh8NfYh5t Source: https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/robinshall/sets/72157618509002338/ -
The Speed Coaster never left the design stage, so the railroad would have not been removed for that. Also Stealth's supports were designed around the Railroad, they wouldn't have done that if they weren't planning on keeping it in the long term. Hypersonic was a prototype, they saw an opportunity and the park tried to take it, IIRC walls went up saying there would be a new ride in 2001 (Right when the railroad was removed). At that point I believe the same reason why GoldStriker was delayed took in effect, noise complaints. The railroad disappeared, and the swings and the Mount Rushmore display came along.

I think that is what the height limit is because Dropzone is over 200 feet this reminds me, does anyone have the stats on the hyper (or was it a hypersonic clone?) that was originally supposed to go to this park? The Arrow Hypercoaster would have been placed near the Demon, elevator lift, I believe at 200ft for the first drop. Hypersonic itself was supposed to be put in place of were Goldstriker and Xtreme Flyer now stand, the former Whizzer/Railway site.

I don't see Vortex leaving the park anytime soon, as for a floorless converstion, I don't think it's going to happen, the station itself is extremely crammed already behind buildings and on top of the park's service road. It seems to me more efficient to just make it into a sit down coaster. It would be cool to see it repainted to it's original colors too. What I honestly want to see is Demon with new coaster cars, preferably the new Vekoma lap bars with the stadium style seating, and just an overhaul of the general theming like replacing the lights in the tunnel, bringing back the foggers. etc. Couple of places to put a roller coaster: -Remove Psycho Mouse and the Go Kart track for a small Euro-Fighter, it would provide more square footage than the Inverti-Garden. -The perimeter of the rapids utilizing the old railroad right of way for a launched coaster would be cool too. It's actually really scenic back there, the railroad trestle is still up and so is the water tower, would make a really good mine themed/railroad launched coaster. -The Greased Lightin' station is still up, could always put a Wicked Twister/V2 Inverted launch Intamin.

Considering how many of those optical illusions there are everywhere on this ride...My wild guess is the world's first is going to be very gimmicky. I mean, there could be some surprises in the building, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Still, this seems to be a very fitting replacement for Black Hole. -
Gold Striker is looking amazing. http://www.pbase.com/spcrr/image/93343616 The former Whitcomb is the blue one sitting (Mistakenly called Plymouth in the previous post, due to the fact Plymouth's are common similar engines) Actually it went to the Kauai Plantation Railway, they had a whole big project of restoring 2 steam locomotives (which now sit at the same locomotive shop as the Former CGA Green Locomotive) but the project never completed and they sold off the whitcomb around 2008-2010. After that sale thought it's location has been a bit of a mystery. *EDIT* After some searching, found out it ended up back here in California, semi-local at Roaring Camp Railroad, Santa Cruz

If I remember correctly, the Railway and the Trolley were removed due to the construction of Hypersonic XLC where Goldstriker now stands and where Whizzer used to stand. Removed in late 1999/early 2000. I'm going to side track a bit. Sadly, that is how most railroad equipment are stored. It's not that Niles Canyon Railway/Pacific Locomotive Association is just wanting it to rot away or anything, but there is a few things that have to come into consideration: 1. It would require 36" Narrow gauge track to operated. The only Narrow Gauge operation we have in the Bay Area is SPCRR @ Ardernwood Farm, coincidently they were the ones to hold on too the maintenance plymoth engine after the railway closed at CGA, and even then that sat exposed to the weather before getting sold off to Hawaii. 2. Museum priorities. Frankly, a former ride holds very little historical value compared to say, 50-100 year old steam locomotives. 3. Storage and space. If you have visited Niles Canyon Railway, the Brightside railyard has very little space, crammed with many locomotives and rail equipment, so has been moved to the California State Rail Museum. The yard that is placed in is an overflow yard, once also housing a very rare steam locomotive. I did go an visit the site. The green trolley seems well covered and under its tarp. It may be in a lot better condition than we know. As far as the red trolley, it's in a poor condition, as seen by the photos. (Be wary it is next to private lots) For those who are local and want to see it restored. A few letters to NCRY and SPCRR and I'm sure the trolleys at a more fitting home at SPCRR, but I do understand they currently have a lot on their plate.

The Wildest Wild Mouse

I don't know if Windjammer counts as a Wild Mouse, but if it does my vote goes to Windjammer Surf Racers. It was painfully wild. -

It may just be me, but that Marmaliser machine in the poster reminds me of robotic arms/robotic arm coaster, it may be a far fetched idea but what if the secret element is a robotic arm that is attached to a section of track? -

I feel this post my be getting too specific for this, if there's anymore specific's about the locomotive you want to know you can message me! This post (by myself on another board) is pretty much a history of the Red Train, and the other Custom Fabricators Locomotive. : original post: http://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/read.php?1,196584,196584#msg-196584 Also on that form is a user named "RailNole" who is the current owner of the Red Train, the last email update got from him is that the locomotive has received a new oak cab to replace the rotting one (built to same measurements as the original) and that the diesel engine has been overhauled. As for the exact location of the Red Locomotive I do not know. -

RIP Great America Scenic Railway (CGA). For those of you who are wondering, the Green Locomotive was at a locomotive restoration shop in Georgetown CA which closed down and the Red locomotive will be returning to operation at a farm in Florida. Anyways Calico & Ghost Town Railroad has my vote. Considering they have historical narrow gauge railroad equipment from a formerly major railroad line, and a fully operation restoration shop. -
The likeliness of a coaster being on the Grizzly/Demon side of the park is low. I believe it was mentioned before that they would have a difficult time trying to get permits passed if the neighbors on that side continue to complaint about noise, I believe that was one of the reasons why the Morgan elevator was never built, thats why I suggested a Grizzly Rocky Mountain Treatment, because it would essentially be a "overhaul" of an existing coaster. Another likely location for the Windseeker is where Triple play used stand, since the queue is still used as a season pass queue, it just wouldn't be a very high Windseeker, which when you really think about it, does the height matter that much, it doesn't provide much of a difference to the ride experience. It would give Inverti-garden some room to play around with.
