I was at the park today and it was a GREAT day to visit. Lines were practically nonexistent! It felt like West Coast Bash ERT all over again on Xcellerator and Silver Bullet later in the night. The whole day the lines were no longer than ten minutes. Got to ride GhostRider again, and it does need a major rehab. It's not "unridable" rough, but it's pretty rough IMO. I got to sit in the front car with...wait for it....NO WAIT. Windseeker also got quickly replaced with a decoration covering up the foundation. It's a wagon with some shrubs around it. There's still walls blocking it as they must still be working on it.

Your guilty pleasure ride
Someotherguyuser replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Any carnival dark rides I may find at the county fair or local carnival. -
I didn't know this was an viable option in the past. That would've been a bad idea IMO. As much as people bitch about the park here, it's my favorite park here in the U.S. Yes, back when SF sold off multiple parks (Elitch Gardens, Darien Lake, just to name a couple of the several) SFMM was included in the Parks that were for sale and CF was one of the most interested buyers. SF pulled SFMM off the market later on. Many people were surprised it was even listed. I do not remember what the year was, so if someone else knows please feel free to post that information. It was 2006. I remember as I was in Jr. High at the time.

Best Theme Park Chain
Someotherguyuser replied to vertgforces's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My vote goes for Disney. I love thrill rides, but I'm far more into themed rides. Disney knows how to do some very excellent themed rides, make solid thrill rides with great theming, and make rides everyone can enjoy. Not to mention they make the best food. Universal's a close second for me. They've made some pretty fantastic themed and thrill rides. Also, Halloween Horror Nights. Ceder Fair for making Knott's better, and being more balanced. I like how they're trying to ease in some more dark rides/themed rides while providing some of the best coasters in the country. Busch would be a fourth for me, but after that, that's as far as the list goes for me. I'm kind of shocked to see Six Flags get higher votes than Universal. To each his own. -
I'm glad to see DCA get a new show. If the rumors are true about Soarin' Over the Horizon, 2015 will be a year of some good additions for DCA. That also happens to be DL's 60th anniversary. Hopefully they have something solid planned for the flagship park that year. It's too bad that the funds for the parks have run dry from the disastrous flop that was MyMagic+

Why do you love TPR?

People are awesome, they make everything fun, and they put on awesome events. YOLO -
Considering what has happened to CF since Matt Ouimet became the CEO of the chain, and the current state of SFMM, I agree with you. Count me in on this too. The park would've been amazing right now. Also imagine what Anhieser Busch could've done with that park. Florida has Africa, Williamsburg has Europe, imagine if they turned SFMM into Busch Gardens Asia. A lot of the Asian theming is already there.

If they were to remove the stage area, that could work. Otherwise it would be a pretty small dark ride. If they stick with a Red Baron theme, they could theme the vicinity to a small flight deck with the Red Baron flat ride right next to it. The queue for the dark ride could be right where Gr8 Sk8 is. The only issue I could see with this would be wanting to keep a show venue. I can't imagine that would be a big deal, but even if it was, I'm sure finding a replacement space would not be too much of a hassle. Didn't someone who works at Knott's mention earlier that he heard rumblings of Gr8 Sk8 leaving? That sounds all too perfect for speculation of a small dark ride. A venue no longer being used for haunt that has a descent amount of space, an out-of-place ride to possibly get axed to open up queue space, a possible Red Baron theme could tie-in with the plane ride directly next to it.....at this point, I would be surprised if this was all a coincidence and a dark ride wasn't happening.

Something interesting to throw into the Camp Snoopy renovation speculation mix (Hey, that rhymes!): Someone I know who worked Slaughterhouse at Haunt two years in a row had informed me that they are retiring Slaughterhouse for haunt. In addition, they are very certain that venue they had used for the maze will be retired. Sounds like they may be using that space under the stagecoach trail for the renovation...Possibly a small dark ride? I think that space would be perfect for a Sally Corp. Peanuts shoot-em-up style ride. I heard rumblings of them wanting to do a Peanuts-themed dark ride, so who knows?

The Off-Season Survival Thread
Someotherguyuser replied to ernierocker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I pull through the off-season by going to USH or Knott's. -
Would another new coaster persuade you otherwise? Iron Colossus and/or a Giga would help make my feelings towards the park a bit softer. Before they build their big 20th coaster or after they've built Iron Colossus, it would be nice to see a big park restoration like Knott's has done/is doing. Cleaning up and renovating the areas of the park that need it, restoring the Magic Pagoda, and maybe having that Justice League dark ride go in DC Universe. I know that will probably never happen, but a man can dream can't he? It would help improve the atmosphere and feel of the park.

I don't know where you got the first part of that since in that area the park has only improved lately, maybe a steady improvement over the past year or two in fact. I totally think they could get way better, but let's not say they're getting worse when they're not. We already know X2 has been down while they replace the lift chain. So since on one off day YOLOcoaster and Ninja are down they're so inconsistent? Even with X2 down indefinitely, on any given day it is very likely almost every other coaster is open. Oh, and people talking about how disappointed people might be about YOLOcoaster not being open, do you forget that Disneyland closes down stuff all the time? I would imagine the tourists who paid to fly in from other countries would be pretty disappointed that Indy was down for rehab, Space Mountain was down for rehab, Big Thunder, Matterhorn, etc. Scream, Viper, X2, and Revolution have been very rough. Especially Scream and Viper. Those two have gotten to the point to where they are cometely unridable. The paint jobs on the coasters and in certain areas (Sammari Summit, Ninja station, and areas in the Psyclone Bay Area are all needing a LOT of attention. Not to mention that there are some areas that seem completely filthy. Trashes are overflowing with bees surrounding the areas where trash is. It's just in really bad shape. Dont get me started on how Jet Stream looks. They've made a few small improvements with the addition of FT, DC Universe area, but that's basically it (Haven't been to Fright Fest since 2011 so I can't judge in that font.) Disney does close stuff for rehab all the time, but at least they give notice to their guests about that. They've completely removed two beloved rides (DeJaVu and LJ) without any notice. They've shut down Ninja and FT for the day without any notice for adding the seatbelts or whatever they're doing. That seems pretty shady to the guests if you're going to, knowing ahead of time, shut down coasters without letting your guests know. All they're doing in X2 is replacing a lift hill chain. Could it really take this long to do just that? I would imagine that would take no longer than two months to order, instal, test, and get it approved by the state. With the amount if time they're taking, you would think they're giving the ride a descent refurb.

After seeing how even more run-down the park has been looking and seeing how slow and inconsistent they have been regarding their ride closures, I am not renewing my SFMM pass. I'll stick with my USH and Knott's. At least those arks have warm and inviting atmospheres. Every time I go to the park, I think of how lush and beautiful the park used to be. It felt like a very green and lush park full of coasters at one point, but now it's basically a junkyard carnival with a handful of descent coasters. Even then, their other rides like X2, Scream, and Viper have gotten so rough and unnoticed by park management, that they are unridable. It's sad that the park has a high potential of being beautiful coaster park with the hilly and foresty environment surrounding it. Way back when there was that crazy rumor of Six Flags selling the park around 2006, I honestly wish they did, but to another company. Just imagine what Anheiser Busch (SP?) would have done with that park. It would've been beautiful! It would've been awesome! Imagine how Busch Gardens: California would have been. I only go to SFMM when I have some time on my hands after my class gets out at CoC nearby to get a few coasters in. Going there now feels like a chore to walk around a massive dump to get from one coaster to another. It's depressing to go there. I've tolerated this for some time, but I just can't. I can't bring myself to renew my pass until management realizes how dire the park is in need of some restoration. I want this park to thrive, but under the incompetent leadership it's under now, it isn't.
