  1. ^Yeah, that whole area...pretty much now concrete. ^^I did see that picture on that site and and it's a pretty good one. But I can't find one from the Sky Cabin before Silver Bullet was installed. That way it'd be a lot easier to compare the image from Sky Cabin before/after Silver Bullet was installed because it'd be from the same angle.
  2. ^^That is a great site. Like I said, it doesn't matter to me anymore because what's done is done, but the best way to describe it is it felt like Knott's actually had a pretty decent sized serene body of water with a train ride around it and a boat ride you'd take from Camp Snoopy - almost like the body of water they have surrounding Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland. It was very "campy" with lots of trees and shade, and it was a nice serene area of the park, probably the last place available in the park where you could just go to relax. So basically, it went from that to lots of flat concrete, and a crowded bunch of B&M supports and track squeezed into the middle (and surrounding) area of the park. What I've been looking for (and maybe someone will have one) is a photo of Reflection Lake from the Sky Cabin similar to this one below: but one that is BEFORE Silver Bullet was installed because I'm pretty sure that would tell the whole picture. I can't believe there's not atleast ONE picture of Reflection Lake from the Sky Cabin before the ride was installed, but it's been hell trying to find one. Another photo which kind of shows the difference is the layout drawing of Silver Bullet before it was installed (also below), you can see how the body of water wrapped all the way around Montezuma's to Camp Snoopy. If you look closely you can even see the drawbridge the train ride used to have (that actually worked and was used) which would open for the steam boat to pass every trip.
  3. All the mist, music, lights and effects that have ever initially been installed on some of the rides at the park that you no longer see are gone because the park doesn't want to pay or take time to fix them when they have problems and need to be repaired, and because management knows the majority of GP won't even notice they're gone so they don't even bother wasting their time. There aren't enough employees or mechanics at the park that are being paid to care about those little things, the ride operators aren't getting paid enough to care about the appearance of their attractions (you've all seen it), and there's only so much the limited amount of employees at Magic Mountain can do every day so they go unnoticed and forgotten as years go on. There is no "roller coaster theming" department that inspects the various attractions and checks for the mist, music, lights and effects to work every day, so things get old and rundown, they stop working and they eventually get removed instead of repaired. It's as simple as that.
  4. I agree completely. After they installed Silver Bullet I pretty much took my "They need to preserve Knott's history" feelings and threw them out the window. Reflection lake became Reflection pond, the train ride and boat ride from Camp Snoopy were pretty much neutered to nothing (the boat ride being quickly removed after that), and the entire area was littered with that big bulky red and yellow track and silver supports. As others have stated, SB is also probably one of my least favorite inverts in terms of intensity and ride experience (and I'm probably also a little bit bias seeing as how it took away one of my more favorite areas of the park). My opinion now is to fill the place up with as many cool coasters as possible.
  5. Good luck with that! Sheesh, the rides been open less than a week, of course people are going to want to discuss it! Glad to hear you got on it, but OUCH! Way to go Six Flags! "Have an Epic Day!" GL is fun for what it is, but like others I can't imagine waiting more than 30 minutes tops. I can't imagine how ripped off I'd feel if I waited 3+ hours for it! Sounds like they have some capacity fine tuning to improve.
  6. I'd wager that's the case a majority of the time when American parks decide to, as some have been putting it, "pussify" their rides. But no way, not even a possibility, obviously it's because Europeons are tough and Americans are pussies.
  7. Maybe you should speak for yourself. I've been to Octoberfest and Europe twice, and besides the fact that they're simply different places with different cultures and people, I'm not quite sure how you got that impression. In fact, I'd say the people there are nicer than people who live here! Also, the ZacSpin I went on in Europe spun the exact same way Green Lantern is now. If you have ERT and can unbalance the cars sure the rides will be different, but as far as GP and the average person riding, they seem to be running identical. Magic Mountain has stated that they may loosen the cars to spin more as the ride breaks in, so it may be running different as time goes on!
  8. Yeah, I don't think anyone saw the price going so high so soon out of bankruptcy.
  9. Really? Did you buy early and double your money? If so, good for you!
  10. The true joy of Shaka Shaka Chicken comes in the packaging and preparation process, but anyways, see below. Available spice packets include cheese, lemon, and black pepper. I preferred black pepper and lemon. Other unusual items include the McPork (I've heard it's delicious, did not verify), various meat pie things, the teriyaki burger (also in Hawaii), and the Lemon Garlic Chicken Burger (also pictured below). Japanese McDonalds is amazing (it is everything American McDonalds is not). Looks delicious! Thanks so much for sharing the photos!
  11. Several of the cars in the You Tube videos I've watched of Insane at Grona seem to be spinning/moving almost identical to how Green Lantern is riding right now - meaning the cars are not flipping 3-4 times. There are a couple out there where the flipping is more frequent, but by watching the video you can tell the car is obviously unevenly balanced, and I haven't seen much of that, which means it is probably a rare occurance. ERT will probably give riders the opportunity to organize the trains less evenly to give more of a "flippy" ride, but I'm guessing for GP rides on regular days, it will be running similarly to how it is now. That is unless they decide to adjust the trains (like described in the article above) to flip more! DC Universe looks AWESOME. I am impressed with how they pulled it off, and although I will miss the Gotham City Backlot (it was the newest area of the park from my earliest memories of visiting Magic Mountain) it definitely needed an improvement, and what they did looks great. I do agree with what some on here say about the G's being the best aspect of the ride. To me the flipping is not that important - the forces exerted on you through the ride are quite high, and pretty remarkable. Nice addition Six Flags! Let's try to get that capacity flying!
  12. It appears to be a lateral clearance issue between the car and the station support/roof as you exit or enter the station. The arm guards are not a big deal at all, IMO.
  13. Green Lantern looks great! In the news video it looks like there were no riders on the other side of the train, which seems to have improved the flipping of the car for the story. And haha, of course they redesigned the station to improve capacity and in the process they ended up with a clearance issue! I like to put my hands up! Also, if the audio on X2 has not been working for an extended period of time, expect it to be gone for good. This is Six Flags, nothing holds up for long, be glad it lasted as long as it did.
  14. I could understand the reasoning for a price hike on parking fees if: 1) The parking lot was improved: the last time I visited there were a large number of parking lot lights out making it both dark and unsafe after the park had closed and I walked back to my car. Seriously, I pay $20 bucks and you can't even keep the parking lot lit? 2) The number of trams increased as I waited 15 minutes in the blazing hot sun in an uncovered line for a tram to take me both to the park and my car. Seriously, no benches or coverings for guests waiting for the trams? 3) The quality of the trams were improved: the speakers and ops are inaudible, some sections of the fiberglass windshields were missing, and the roofs were missing screws and banging up and down as we went over bumps in the road. Complete garbage. 4) The tram roads were improved as the ride was bumpy, jerky, and loud as the tram banged and bounced up and down to the point where it sounded like it was going to fall apart. It's bad enough Six Flags takes $20 from us then makes us park as FAR AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE to the entrance of the park unless we decide to wait for those inefficient god awful trams, NOTHING about the lots or the trams has improved in 20 years! It's obvious price gouging in a monopoly where you're pretty much forced to pay.
  15. Are there any photos of the McDonalds Shaka Shaka Chicken? You keep showing photos of the bags/packaging it comes in, but I don't think I've seen what the actual food looks like! Please share!
  16. Dear Six Flags, I don't need audio when I'm riding a coaster, thanks. Sincerely, Me
  17. Realistically speaking, that's not even that much time or many cycles. Consider 20 cycles an hour and you could get that done overnight in 5-6 hours.
  18. Parking at Magic Mountain is $20. Not sure why you're all surprised, it's the typical Six Flags screw job - much like the $13 for a plastic "souvenir" cup with a sticker on it which costs the park 25-50 cents, and a soda refill that probably costs 10-25 cents. F**K THAT! What am I going to a Metallica concert or something? I already hate the Yanks and their short right field wall gifting those tools homers they don't deserve, the $35 parking solidifies my feelings on that team.
  19. I can't BELIEVE how much they're charging for all that garbage. You think if it were half of that people might actually spend some of their money...but think about it, even if you pay all this money to put one of those marble tubs or stinky restaurant booths in your house just to tell whoever comes over to your place that it was from the Sahara, who the hell would believe you and who the hell would care? I don't see the novelty. I got a lazy boy in my room, and I could just as easily tell everyone I got it from the Sahara and nobody would know the difference. Thanks for the Sahara update though, it is amazing to see how old a dilapidated it got. As for Speed the ride, it will be missed, that is unless someone buys it and puts it at another casino...although I can't see that happening, as according to the rest of the prices around the hotel, they're probably charging a ridiculous amount nobody in their right mind would pay.
  20. I agree, I don't think the Windseekers are going to be anywhere near as cool as the Star Flyers. These things are just awesome. I'm not sure how you could even compare a 150 foot tall swing ride to a 300 foot tall swing ride, regardless if its a chain holding your seat or not.
  21. I have been on Tele2Insane at Grona Lund and I would say it isn't worth a 30 minute wait, especially when there's so many better rides around the park. At Grona Lund this is one of their main attractions, and after getting off once my little brother didn't even want to re-ride and it was a walk on. I rode again because I thought I might have gotten a bad batch of flips on the ride the first time around...nope, it was the same on the second. If the way the ride was run at Grona is any indication, the line is going to be stupid long.
  22. Even worse, it's stand-up track and this is a 4D coaster!
  23. Really? Guests moving slow shuts down rides? Why do I not believe that... Seriously though, the ride operators at SF parks are probably the worst of any chain in the business. I understand guests not paying attention sometimes slows down dispatch times, but more often then not it is the terrible ride operators finding new ways to move as slow as humanly possible. And IMO, it is the ride operators job to get the guests ready for the ride, and to get them moving along quickly to have as many guests go through the turnstiles as possible. As for the number of trains on the rides, I just think with a park as big as Magic Mountain, and with as many coasters as they have, there's no reason for 1 train operation on any coaster that is made to have 2. I understand there are special circumstances where things go wrong, but it's been MONTHS now for Terminator. The park should have 3 trains, 2 on the track at all times, and one rehabbing. The capacity of some of the other coasters around the park are bad enough as it is (Deja Vu, Tatsu, Superman), and this just compounds the foul. I sat in the sun-ridden line for 10-15 minutes last week, and the line did not move once -not ONCE- so we didn't even bother riding.
  24. ^More motivation to buy a Flash Pass! Just a note to anyone going to the park, go on Superman Escape from Krypton if you haven't already, it's freaking awesome!
  25. For anyone planning to go, last Monday was pretty terrible, everything had a long line and the 3rd lot got full. Doesn't help when there's 1 train operation on some rides. Seems the park is now in full swing summer mode as far as guests are concerned so be advised. I also love how guests reward the park for terrible operations, by paying them to cut in ridiculously long lines they're responsible for!
